Forgebane: Coming Soon


Breaking news today – a brand new battle box is on the way. We’ve heard a lot over the past year about the conflict between the Space Marines and their traitorous cousins, but in this set, we turn our gaze to another ancient evil rising throughout the galaxy.

In Forgebane, two venerable empires clash for supremacy on a forge world that was revealed to be a tomb world following the opening of the Cicatrix Maledictum. In the boxed set, you’ll find two armies, along with rules for playing them and a new chapter in the lore of Warhammer 40,000, as the Adeptus Mechanicus discover the secrets of blackstone – a mysterious material with the potential to neutralise the powers of Chaos or even amplify it to a horrific degree.

Conflicts such as these are rising across the galaxy, as more forge worlds are found to harbour ancient and terrible secrets (that’ll serve them right for building all their facilities on unusually ore-rich planets mysteriously devoid of all life…).


Whether you’re just getting started and looking for a way into the 41st Millennium, curious to start an Adeptus Mechanicus or Necrons army, or just want to pick up some new units to ally with your existing force, Forgebane is for you.


You might recognise the Knight Armiger Warglaives and Necron Cryptek with a distinctive Canoptek cloak from our preview at the Las Vegas Open. The Necron Cryptek is the first to be made of plastic and features a nifty new piece of wargear that allows them to skim above the battlefield and repair your units.


Meanwhile, Knight Armiger Warglaives are a new, lightweight class of Imperial Knight, piloted by Knights in training, lesser members of noble households or just commoners with an uncanny knack for mechanised warfare. It’s the job of these smaller Knights to range ahead of their brethren and annihilate any threats – in particular, shearing through enemy vehicles or tank-hunters with the thermal spear and reaper chain-cleaver.


These guys will fit into your Lord of War slot neatly, and make both the perfect accompaniment to an Imperial Knight you already own and a powerful option in their own right for any Imperium army. They’re ideal for filling a Super-heavy Detachment – this duo and one of our standard Imperial Knights isn’t just a powerful force on the battlefield, but also nets your army three Command Points.


Forgebane is a great place to start a Necron or Adeptus Mechanicus army (or both!), and the set will cost you less than getting everything inside separately, and that’s BEFORE you count the new Cryptek and Imperial Knight units.

I'm with Mike. The wraiths and shield crons interest me, but that Cryptek is a nice model.


I don't need more robots, but at a 1/3 necron to 2/3 mech cost split, that 'might' get me interested.

I’d do that Matt/ I’d like the mech half of a box.  And ⅔ seems fair.

Unit Focus: Armiger Warglaives


The Armiger Warglaive is a new kind of Imperial Knight – a lightweight assault walker that combines the power of its larger cousins with frightening speed and flexibility. With Forgebane allowing you to get your hands on not one but two Armiger Warglaives, here’s why we think you’ll want to add them to your army.



The forces of the Imperial Knights employ all manner of vehicles in the pursuit of their quest to defend the Imperium – and while the Armiger class might be the lightest, each of these war machines is a deadly force in its own right.

Armigers hearken back to an ancient martial tradition – that of a mounted lord hunting with his loyal bondsmen. While the prey may have gotten deadlier, and the hunt fiercer, the principle is the same, with pairs of Armigers guarding the flanks of their larger kin and ranging ahead to slay any potential threats to their lord.


To pilot an Armiger is an honour, albeit one much less prestigious than piloting a fully fledged Knight. For this reason, Armiger pilots are drawn from the lesser nobility of a Knight world, from distant cousins of the ruling House to commoners and lowborn uplifted by virtue of their exceptional talent for war.


Armiger Warglaives represent a new kind of Imperial Knight, and allow Imperium players greater flexibility when choosing a Super-heavy for their army, as well as giving Imperial Knight players much greater flexibility when constructing their army.


While Armigers may be “small” by the standard of Imperial Knights, they’re still comparable in power to the mightiest war machines used by other armies, and thus, you’ll find them in the Lord of War slot. Unlike other Lords of War, you’ll be able to fit up to three Armigers in a single slot, making filling out a Super-heavy Detachment – and netting three Command Points – easy! We’d recommend pairing two with a fully fledged Imperial Knight for a balanced and powerful collection of units.


Armiger Warglaives are FAST – a 14″ move lets them to close in on enemy targets rapidly, allowing them to unleash hell with their devastating short-ranged weaponry. With Toughness 7, 12 Wounds, a 3+ Save and an ion shield to boot, they’re no slouches defensively, either. It’ll take some pretty dedicated anti-armour firepower to bring one down. We’d recommend taking full advantage of this by sending your Armiger Warglaives ahead of your force and forcing your enemy to deal with them, making space for the rest of your army to operate. Should they fail to take your Armiger Warglaives down – well, that’s where the fun begins…


Armiger Warglaives are built for one thing – hunting and destroying vehicles, monsters and any other large target foolish enough to get in their way. Key to this is the thermal spear, a melta weapon that boasts both terrifying range and damage.


With 30″ of range, you’ll be able to engage more dangerous foes from afar, while you’ll only need to get within 15″ of your opponents to capitalise on increased damage. Thanks to the Assault weapon type, you can close in rapidly without necessarily sacrificing firepower. There’s another reason you’ll want to get as close to the enemy as possible too – the deadly reaper chain-cleaver.


With four attacks at Strength 12, AP -3 and Damage 3, there’s little that can stand up to an assault from this brutal weapon, and it’ll be particularly potent against enemy heavy infantry as well as armoured units. Just watch out for hordes – you might find yourself bogged down when battling Ork Boyz, Hormagaunts and the like, as you lack the ability of the full-sized Imperial Knight to fall back and shoot with impunity.



You’ll be able to get your hands on a pair of Armiger Warglaives in Forgebane, as well as a contingent of Adeptus Mechanicus allies to field alongside them. You’ll find the Skitarii Rangers (or Vanguard, depending on how you build them) great for thinning down any larger units that could hold up your Armigers, while the Tech-Priest Dominus will keep them in the fight longer with invaluable battlefield repairs. Dedicate yours to the Questor Mechanicus, and you’ll even be able to use the Knight of the Cog Stratagem from Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus to provide them with access to the Canticles of the Omnissiah:

Crypteks are scientific geniuses responsible for maintaining and developing the technology that sustains the Necrons and allows them to crush their foes with contemptuous ease.


Occupying a privileged role in the hierarchy of a tomb world, Crypteks are equipped with an array of unusual equipment to help them perform their roles. Forgebane allows you to equip your Crypteks with one such piece of equipment, as well as making the Cryptek available in plastic for the first time – but what exactly does it do?


The Canoptek cloak is a new piece of wargear available to Crypteks, providing some simple but welcome enhancements.


For just a handful of extra points, you’ll be able to significantly improve the flexibility of your Crypteks. As well as providing direct benefits for the unit itself (who doesn’t appreciate the ability to Fly?), this increased mobility will allow you to keep pace with a much wider range of Necron units.


Over the years, the Necrons range has evolved considerably, now featuring a number of fast-moving units. From Tomb Blades to Triarch Praetorians, and even the classic Destroyers, generals have had to balance mobility with leaving units outside the protective auras of their Crypteks – but no longer. With the Canoptek cloak, you’ll be able to keep pace with these units, allowing for a more mobile force than ever before – we’d recommend pairing yours with a Catacomb Command Barge to take full advantage of your bonuses to Living Metal repairs.



The new plastic Cryptek will be available in Forgebane, alongside a Detachment of Necrons for him to lead. You’ll be able to range up the field with your Canoptek Wraiths, or hold back and make your Lychguard incredibly difficult to kill. - 1 Necron Cryptek, covered in ornate armour featuring intricate geometrical patterns and wielding a tall staff of light. His segmented cloak connects to a Canoptek Scarab, allowing for flight, and the included base features pieces of ruined Necron architecture;

- 1 Tech-Priest Dominus, who comes with a volkite blaster, a macrostubber, an eradication ray, a phosphor serpenta and a power axe;
- 2 transfer sheets: an Adeptus mechanicus sheet and a specific Armiger Warglaive sheet.
