  1. Nah, Hornets aren't flyers; they're fast skimmers. Likely, my Wave Serpents do have way too much stuff on them (for the reasons stated above), That one's a lesson that would sort itself out in a game or two. I'm quite surprised to hear you call this a fluffy, beer-and-pretzels list that would be blown off the table. We must play in very, very different metas. I would be quite shocked if I were tabled on Turn 4 against any army (though, I'd welcome the lesson - I reckon I'd learn a lot if such a thing happened).
  2. They're coming on from a board edge with infiltrate, so while they can't re-position quickly, they're going to show up where they need to be. After that, they still have Eldar battle focus, so they'll be moving 7 to 12 inches a turn. By definition, I guess Eldar stuff is fast. The War Walkers aren't as fast as some other stuff, but they still play into the tactical movement theme really well. I do wish the Wasp Corsair War Walkers were available as heavy support, though!
  3. OK, now I'm looking at this for 1997 points. I gave up shuriken cannons on the Windriders and Wave Serpents (and the singing spear I was planning for the Farseer) to fit in the Hornets, but I really like the way it's shaping up. Fast as balls with lethal firepower, and it'll crumble like a baby if you pin it down in close combat. It totally feels like the fast and lethal Eldar Corsair strikeforce that I was after. I'm still not certain about some of the upgrades, but those are the sort of things that would get sussed out in playtesting. Here's my rationale for some of the odder choices: Wave Serpents: The Vectored Engines for the Wave Serpents are to optimize the placement of the Wraithguard. Those D-scythes can be so lethal in the right position, that it seems worth the points to make sure they get where they need. Likewise, the SPirit Stones are there to make it so, even if the Wave Serpent gets destroyed, they still should be able to fire. My understanding if that they get hit with crew shaken/stunned, the occupants can only snapfire on the turn they disembark, right? Which means template weapons can't fire. Given the cost of the payload, this seems worth the investment to make sure it gets delivered, Warp Spiders: Exarch with Spinneret rifles are to let me play the range game. The unit can fire at all of the models in range of any of the weapons (provided all of my models are in range of at least one of the enemy). Given the close range of the spinners, this lets me keep all of my guys just at 12" from the closest enemy model while the spinneret can reach all of the enemy models. I think the extra 6" of the spinneret rifle may help keep the warpspiders at a safer distance. I also don't have any dedicated flyer defense, but I'm of the mind that I can put out so much high strength firepower, and that I can generally put it where I want it, that, with the addition of guide and prescience, I should be pretty set. Any other thoughts or suggestions? 4. Holy cow, I was looking at old point costs. Two hornets for the cost of a fire prism seems great. Fits the theme, as well. I like it!
  5. Didn't know about the hornet before. Man, it seems pricy, though. 150 points for twin bright lances with holofields. Seems better off taking a fire prism for the points (armour 11 hurts!), unless I'm missing something? I also like the wasp... I love the corsair war walkers. Did they update the rules for the new eldar codex yet?
  6. Shae, when you talk like that, I get all a-tingle in my nether-regions. I'm gonna have to sit down with the codex to decide if I'll stick to my "Nids as my new army" guns. I'm not as invested in it as the current Nid players, and the type of army I wanted to play doesn't seem to exist anymore. I don't like the "medium" Nids, and they seem to have gotten the best attention. If that write up on the path to the codex is true, then shame on GW.
  7. I'm playing 40k with Loren. Gonna be mean!
  8. GACK! Mine doesn't get here until tomorrow. :( Still hope I get it over the weekend, though. I've got 40k with Loren this Tuesday, but already have two Rivet Wars games lined up for the following Tuesday. Honestly, I'm also stoked at using it as a gateway to get my kids into wargaming. It's not only super cute, it's also seems like a great fast-paced boardgame port of an RTS videogame.
  9. Gonna wait and see how the new Tyranid book pans out first, but I may switch plans and make this a reality. Time will tell! One thought - Would it be weird to drop one Fire prism and replace it with a Wraithlord? I'd love some flexibility for assault, and with the Iyanden book I could make him my warlord to better leverage the Warlord traits and Spirit Marks and what not. It would be the one painfully slow piece in an otherwise blazing army, but it might be cool. Twin bright lances for anti-armour, with good assault ability. Would he stick out as a sore thumb compared to how fast everyone else is? EDIT: Oh yeah - almost forgot. Had a game with borrowed figs vs. Munkie. Good fun! The speed was as promised, and those Wraithguard were just brutal. I lost a big chunk when he stole the initiative on me, but pulled out a solid win in the end. I was scared to death of assault, but otherwise the mobility and shooting was lethal.
  10. Sweet! I'm going to (try to) swing by with your copy of Netrunner, Christian. Still haven't played it, still certain I likely won't have the chance.
  11. Don, you're a prince! I'd love to take advantage of your offer, for myself and (if you think it's age-appropriate) my 10-year old daughter. She's bright, responsible, and has surprising upper body strength from a lifetime on monkey bars. The times she's been able to shoot (.22 rifle), she's really enjoyed it and behaved responsibly. Thanks a million for offering this!
  12. I'd say likenesses of Wyrd characters is Wyrd IP. Just so you know, the art would best be in a vector format, at worst a really high res png with a transparent background. Anything else won't work very well for the layout.
  13. I can make up some cray-cray rules, as well! How about Tervigons no longer give bonuses to termagaunts, no longer have access to BRB psychic disciplines, cause feedback in a 12" radius when they die, and require 30 gants to be troops. Oh wait, didn't make that up, I've seen that page. Maybe you can use the old codex for the game? :(
  14. It's cool, but not in English? Essen and Mordheim aren't where they should be,
  15. If the decks will include any potential Wyrd IP, though, you'll have to check with Eric and/or Nathan. I think I described what happened last time, but getting permission, signing a contract, and putting the non-IP threatening stickers on the deck sorted everything out.
  16. I think scaling it back to 30, might be fair, though. Dan, I'll try and give you some better info later tonight or tomorrow. I can totally do layout, and selling the decks before and after has always been a big part of the events (financial) success.
  17. Interested to know whether there actually are any viable stress-training programs out there. I've avoided a handgun for just that reason.
  18. Shae, I owe you a drink on Apoc day. Something stiff. More and more solid info (and page scans) from the tYranid codex are out. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it looks full of.... (EDIT| WOOPS! Looks like the language filter is down?). Like, worse than the current codex (which I would happily play) bad.
  19. My offer to help out with one thing still stands. I can layout art for cards (but don't have coming up with another design in me), make a specific terrain piece or objective or whatever. Dan, how much are you willing to do. I'm guessing you could twist Corey's arm into letting you head it up... Just saying!
  20. Jon, given how tired you were, I was pleased as punch you still came - and came out afterwards! You were thiefy as all get out and delivered the final blow to the big bad. You did good! Looking forward to seeing what kind of a guy Dragos is - I haven't quite figured him out yet. For me, the personality of the characters and the interactions that develop out of them is a big part of the fun.
  21. Looking forward to trying it tonight. Any excuse to drink spirits! I'm not certain that there is a "best" tasting method, but the more ways to experience and pay attention to a good spirit, the better!
  22. Corey has been doing stuff, I think. Reckon he'll chime in shortly. For my part, I'm going to get so much great stuff done this Winter/Spring! The past week has already been a wonderful hobby gift. :)
  23. Hey Loren - Can I interest you in a 1750 game vs. Necrons on the 14th? If you'd like me to bring a tougher-than-usual list, do you have a spare Night Scythe (or two) I could use? My list can scale down pretty easily (there are several units that never really do anything), and I should be able to add in some more nastiness.
