  1. That is the one I like best for theme as well; I feel like OFCC is the right environment for a list like that which is very heavily geared towards what an army should play like. Plus I don't have to go out and buy/build/paint a ton of models for that. I feel dirty bringing a handful of guardsmen to cower behind a ADL and try to punk a rhino or two with some autocannons while holding backfield objectives, which is what the first list would be. Definitely an easy replacement for a powerfist (likely held by a powerfist to avoid any potential confusion). I need to sort out Powerbats, powerwrenches, and powerfoldingchairs as well as adamantine 2x4 with a nail through it for the appropriate count-as weapons. I want power swords, but there will clearly be plenty of power maces in there, maybe a power-trenching tool for a sword/axe. IDK. Commisar John Fuklaw! I considered this, but in the first list I'd want the guardsmen to be modeled as hiding behind the ADL, something an Angry Commisar wouldn't tolerate for long. Maybe he'll be present in the army display diorama, assuming my two-year-old is willing to let that become a reality.
  2. So I am hell-bent on fielding my Angry marines (counts-as Blood Angels), likely with the Baal Strike Force force org chart/detachment since +1 Initiative seems like an angrier/fluffier characteristic than ObSec troops. My collection for this army is largely jump troops, though I was going to stuff in a couple drop pods (fits their 'fluff') to deliver some tac squads. I've got tons of ideas for conversions and whatnot, settled on my paint scheme/technique, etc. and will be keeping them fairly PG-13 as far slogans/themes since I don't think some of the more offensive sayings I have seen on them are particularly funny (for those familiar with their 'fluff' and potentially concerned) The lists I am considering are along the lines of: Raging Rescue Baal Strike Force Detachment AsstoRAGE (Astorath) Sanguinangry Priest (Sanguinary Priest) w/ Angel's Wing, bolt pistol, power weapon Belligerent Engine (Death Company Dread) w/ blood talons, meltagun/flamer, drop pod 10 Belligerent Marines (Death Company) w/jump packs, power fist, power weapon 7 Belligerent Marines (Death Company) w/jump packs, 2x power weapon 5 Sanguinangry Guard (Sanguinary Guard) death masks 10 Angry Marines (Tac squad) multimelta, meltagun, sgt w/ power weapon, drop pod 10 Angry Marines (Tac squad) hvy flamer, flamer, sgt w/ power weapon, drop pod 10 Angry Assault Marines (Assault Marines) 2x meltagun, vet sgt w/power fist Aegis Defence Line w/comms relay Imperial Guard Allied Detachment Company Command Squad Infantry Platoon w/ autocannon team in each of the infantry squads option 2, requires fewer new purchases and is pure counts-as blood angels. Angels of Rage Chapter Master Temperus Maximus (Commander Dante) AsstoRAGE (Astorath) Sanguinangry Priest (Sanguinary Priest) w/ Angel's Wing, bolt pistol, power weapon Belligerent Engine (Death Company Dread) w/ blood talons, meltagun/flamer, drop pod 15 Belligerent Marines (Death Company) w/jump packs, power fist, power weapon 7 Sanguinangry Guard (Sanguinary Guard) death masks 10 Angry Marines (Tac squad) multimelta, meltagun, vet sgt w/ power weapon, drop pod 10 Angry Marines (Tac squad) hvy flamer, flamer, vet sgt w/ power weapon, drop pod 10 Angry Assault Marines (Assault Marines) 2x meltagun, vet sgt w/power fist Neither list is finished at this time, just rough frameworks. The rescue themed list is likely more competitive with some cheap guard camping objectives in the back while marines rain from above and engage the opponent in melee, but the second is much fluffier IMO; everything completely ignores objectives and go screaming into melee ASAP, but in doing so it makes victory significantly more difficult. Either seem better suited to OFCC?
  3. Well, on the bright side it sounds like you did fairly well to stay in it for 8 games. The RCG event was 11am-4pm, and stayed pretty much to that schedule.
  4. I played at the Store Tournament at Red Castle Games yesterday, had a good time and was pleasantly surprised to find only around 1/2 of the lists had a large turret ship without any looking like direct cookie-cutter lists of the popular net-builds; I actually lucked out and never played a large ship across the 3 games in the event, something that likely helped my final standings. I ended up taking 4th out of 13 over 3 rounds, my 2nd round opponent (my loss) went on to win the event. I ran my 'Team Focus' list as shown below. Definitely an oddball for the recent tournament meta, I will likely run something different for the Guardian Games store tournament in March if Scum is legal (Sweet scum-Boba action...). Airen Cracken w/Swarm Tactics Kyle Katarn w/Ion Cannon Turret and Jan Ors crew Garven Dreis Jake Farrell w/Chardaan Refit and Push the Limit I think I had the only HWK-290 there, possibly the only named A-wing and definitely the only Garven Dreis. The list has reasonable versatility/adaptability but lacks focused punch against overly hard targets with strong killing potential, but makes for an entertaining take-all-comers list, being able to shuffle focus tokens about and picking up some additional actions as a result, it definitely shines during the initial engagement where I'm able to hit a bit harder than it looks like I should while still having tokens where I need them on defense. The mid-high PS across 4-ships was also a big plus. My only potential change would be removing the PtL from Jake to give a defensive astromech (R7 or R5-P9) to Garven (often the first to go down), but couldn't talk myself into it prior to leaving the house so I went with what I had and found I didn't use it (PtL) as often as I could have. When Calculation is legal I might drop PtL for that and autothrusters for Jake if I play the list more; between Kyle, Garven, and Airen I found he has a steady enough supply of focus tokens/actions to routinely use both of his reactionary boost/barrel-rolls into the mid-game turns.
  5. I've seen a couple store-tournament reports recently that the A-wing proton rocket delivery system (I assume 5x prototype pilot with Proton Rocket) has won at least one event tearing up decimators/1300s/2400s in 1-2 rounds of shooting and mopping up the remains afterwards; a specific build to counter the popular trend of large, low-AGI turret ships, but potentially vulnerable to a surprise list otherwise. I don't doubt that an aggressive swarm from either faction has the potential to get the job done, but in a timed tournament environment I feel a swarm carries a vulnerability to slow play (intentional or otherwise from both sides of the table) less present in most other builds and am hesitant to practice that option myself. Plus I can't claim to be the fastest player out there and want to make sure I'm not responsible for undue delays whenever possible. That said, I think there should be some consideration for playing against a swarm in a tournament list much like you should have some plan/contingent for facing a phantom as well since they both create unique issues. I've read and reread Burk's statement here and the more I think about it the more I agree with it, so much of the online hype/discussion surrounding lists is contingent on perceived possibilities. I hope it rings true in the near future.
  6. I'm not really sure. I've seen a lot of these on half.com for $3-8 fairly regularly in various conditions, but that is individual titles. Let me know what you think is reasonable for the lot if you're interested. They're just taking up space on a shelf in an unused room right now, so I'm not looking to make a car payment from their sale.
  7. I have a large lot of old shadowrun RPG books I can no longer justify keeping. Most are out of print, largely all before 4th edition. If interested, please make an offer for the lot, I am not looking to sell individual books at this time, I prefer to sell the whole lot in one go. All have a good bit of wear on the spine/corners, but are otherwise perfectly usable. If they're still listed in the ad I still have them. Hardbacks in the picture (4th & 5th ed books) are not for sale at this time. I am also interested in X-wing Miniatures trades.
  8. I agree that autothrusters will help move things away from the current trend of large ship with turrets, but ultimately they only really benefit A-Wings and TIE Interceptors in the existing ships and the Aggressor & Starviper for S&V. Of those I think it will make PS1 A-wing Proton Rocket deliveries more reliable but suspect the IG-2000 duos will be the real winners there since the other ships with access to them simply won't be as likely to face the number of shots over a game before they're destroyed to really benefit from them; base AGI 3, 8 combined hull/shields, and built in arc-dodging should go a long ways towards maximizing their returns on that upgrade compared to a 3 hull interceptor that is still getting canned after one garbage roll at range 1 against the problem ships out there already. All that said, after an initial knee-jerk reaction to their presence, on any of the (eligible) small ships they realistically buy you roughly one additional turn of incoming fire from a tooled up YT-1300 or Decimator given their consistent damage output and that assumes that you're using an evade token. Unfortunately, aside from shooting at range 3, autothrusters have no impact on phantoms shooting you, which in turn will make people fear phantoms again/more in their giant-killer builds, which once again drives them back towards large turreted ships with consistent damage output against phantoms (and everything else). It's a vicious circle, but the autothrusters at least create some hope for a select few.
  9. Dual action (top mounted, traditional trigger) gravity feed cup with a reasonable capacity is the way to go. http://www.amazon.com/Master-G233-SET-Multi-Purpose-Dual-Action-Airbrush/dp/B0067BAYNO/ref=sr_1_7?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1422563287&sr=1-7&keywords=dual+action+airbrush&pebp=1422563296993&peasin=B0067BAYNO That one above looks to be of similar price to your other links and has multiple needle sets you can use to adjust it's area of coverage, etc. as needed. Decent rating, though based on the reviews you might need to adjust the air pressure according to the paint/needle being used, etc. A lot of people don't get that importance well and then complain about their garbage results. Also, depending on your habits, clean frequently. I find mixing a large volume of paint in a dropper bottle and only using a small amount at a time to be a better practice than filling the cup and spraying without pause.
  10. So initial online reports are trickling in from stores and players from the first round of the FFG tournament series and overwhelmingly the same net-lists are popping up in the top 4 time and time again. Basically, people are running some variation of: Fat Han (frequently with 3 Z's rather than 2 X's, occasionally trimmed down to fit Corran Horn) Super-Dash (the 58 point build everyone is familiar with, also occasionally trimmed for Corran Horn) Decimator/Phantom duo (thankfully there is at least some pilot variety here between both ships) Some stores/players have reported that the top 8 are fairly regularly exclusively some combination of these three builds/styles and it is fairly depressing. The argument that swarms are a good counter to large ships falls apart in 60-75 minute rounds wherea couple delays can leave 1 hull point remaining on a large ship denying the swarm player those points (seriously hope there is a half-points change to tournament rules in the near future) and the inherent slower playing nature of swarms (gotta move all those pieces, take all those actions/shots, etc) means their games are realistically going to be fewer turns anyways which only compounds the problem. I've read that there is a BBBBZ build which does well (36 combined hull/shields and 14 attack dice at range 2-3), but it feels a bit sluggish and cookie-cutter on paper, not to say it doesn't have potential though. Anyone had any luck trying to break the mold with something competitive and not dependent on lists like those referenced above? Not looking for specific lists or anything since people are likely refining their own secret-sauce for upcoming tournaments, but just curious if others have found nuggets of hope. I'm hoping FFG addresses this issue in the coming year, but I have sincere doubts that anything in S&V will help to curb this particular mono-build trend that has developed. I really do think that partial/half points for ships being at/below half hull/shields would be a step in the right direction, but seriously doubt they'll roll that change out midway into the start of a tournament series.

    SM hunter?

That is pretty much my reasoning as well. I'd rather have a fairly good shot at rolling on the damage chart for a one-shot kill (be it either the '7' to destroy it or from a lucky follow-up roll on immobilized) that has a built in second chance at rear armor than need multiple hits and single-die armor penetration rolls to glance a flyer down. Against FMC's though I like the stalker more; I suppose it comes down to personal preference and what you're having a harder time against.
  12. I talked my wife into a game tonight (a break from Carcassonne), so Etahn got some less-reinforced test play in a more generic setting. Etahn A'baht Swam Tactics R2-F2 Prototype Pilot (A-wing) Chardaan RefitPrototype Pilot (A-wing) Chardaan RefitEaden Vrill Tactical Jammer First salvo Etahn managed to whiff on 4 defensive dice against 3 hits and a crit (raised from 3AGI with R2-F2's action), but after that the crits started rolling out. I managed to keep him alive the following turns while Eaden and the A-Wings spewed improved shots into anything viable. I don't think it is an overly competitive list, but it had several of the elements I wanted to try out. The yt2400 lent a bit more reliable damage output to the build it wasn't hard to find something either stressed or at range 1 to pump the base attack dice up to 3 shots. The A-wings definitely fit in nicely for speed and maneuverability. Unfortunately, our 2-year old woke up from his nap earlier than expected, so we weren't able to play to completion but he was clearly making a difference against anything with a shield.
  13. I figured he'd be a monster in epic play, especially since his ability applies to enemy ships within a much larger area than the 'range-1 friendly' style ability of Howlrunner or the upcoming M3-A defensive version of that. I also figured PS5 was a limiting factor, especially with a low PS swarm. His base 3 AGI is a step up from the Z's, but for the points he's the obvious target; when I try and write a list with him I end up shoveling too many defensive upgrades into him to make it particularly beneficial. My previous experiences using him saw him take a priority target role for my opponent and he literally gets shot to pieces before he gets to his chance to shoot in the second turn. As a result when writing lists now I always end up with something like: Etahn Advanced Sensors Lone Wolf (his ability only requires the enemy ships be in his arc, not friendly beneficiaries so he can get cheap rerolls here for both attack and defense as long as he plays solo) R2-F2 Experimental Interface The intent is he plays by himself on one side while the rest of the ships do work from the opposite side of the field, problem is he costs a mint (43 points, ouch!) like that and really I feel he needs the points freed up to provide more ships to benefit from his ability. I guess I could run him with Biggs, but I just not a fan of sinking 1/4 of a list into a punching bag that might get one shot off before he kicks over, though that isn't that different than my luck with Etahn...
  14. I really love his pilot skill and the E-wing ship itself, but I can't make a list with him that I feel great about. The common arguments for him I've seen have either been nearly naked with a Z95-swarm to maximize return on his ability (number of ships shooting), or paired with Ten Numb and/or secondary weapons like a HLC. My issue is I like the speed of the E-wing (combined with the systems upgrade Advanced Sensors you have a pseudo-decloak maneuver from the barrel roll action and a friendly maneuver dial) and feel like it just doesn't fit with Z95's nearly as well as it can with A-Wings. Of course, by the time I write up my list it ends up being 3 ships with a total of 7 attack dice between then and only 13 combined hull/shields; not a particularly forgiving build. Any suggestions/positive experiences that might help?

    X-Wing SOLD

    Definitely interested
  16. http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=5299 I'm liking IG-88B or IG-88C in combo with IG-88D a lot more than anything else. With that fixed firing arc, I'm gonna want that added maneuverability from the D along with either the free evade added to a boost from C or the secondary attack chance from B. I feel like the IG-88A ability is an unfavorable gamble for tournament play when the meta has been favoring builds of 2-3 ships; if swarms become a thing again, then it starts getting more appealing. Either way, it has an interesting dial, should be exciting!
  17. Given FFG's habit (especially with X-wing) of producing limited runs on their products, I would get the Armada products sooner than later. Anything that proves to be useful/popular in x-wing seems to sell out fast with a long time between reprints (Millenium Falcon, Slave I, etc.). It might not be as much of an issue with the first wave of ships.
  18. About 40 jump pack Angry Marines (counts-as Blood Angels). Just picked up a box of Cadians for slaughter fodder conversions. I will post a thread or even blog on my progress when I start mass production. So far still in the cleanup (second-hand models) and conversion phase. I'm hoping to use them at OFCC next year, and will be keeping them PG-13 friendly since I don't find some of the associated topics/slogans people scrawl on them to be particularly funny.
  19. Or a a sign of GW failing to adapt their business model to capture impulse purchases and food/drink items. If every FLGS had an alcohol friendly area like GG in Portland (including GW stores) numbers would kill. The margins on food and drink that players regularly purchase because they're in the store for 2-4 hours at a time is a serious source of $, especially booze. As far as 3D printing goes, I still strongly contend that the model files, and control of them, is what will dictate whether GW is seriously threatened by 3D printing in the next decade. The physical printing technology, affordable to the hobbyist, can and will improve to provide SLA/SLS layer resolution which can match GW plastics quality in a reasonable amount of time (5-10 models/day), but without detailed source material to print in the first place it will still look like garbage; another likely case of GW tightly controlling the IP and protecting their bottom line.
  20. What size tables will players be on? Also, is there a signup for limited spots available.
  21. That looks like decent resolution FDM (ABS/PLA filament) printing like the CubeX or Replicator desktop printer families, or perhaps an older powdered cartridge printer. I have a Replicator 2x (or rather my business partner and I do) and after decent tuning/adjustment can make that quality ($3k new, now around $2500 about a year after we bought it). Meanwhile, anyone with a form1 or form1+ (about $3300, resin is $150/L IIRC) can print in near perfect GW product resolution. The print envelope/volume is definitely smaller than the filament printers, but the resolution is absolutely worth it; I'd order one today if I weren't still impersonating a pseudo-responsible adult with bills to pay. *EDIT* A major factor in my own testing has been the quality/accuracy of the models being printed. The majority of the chunky/ugly prints you saw when these first came out were largely as much a result of a poorly done model as they were a product of the printer quality. What GW really needs to be fearful of is the increasingly available 3D scanner tech which can rip off their models/components in a matter of minutes with a skilled user. /*EDIT* GW has previously mentioned working on 3D printed product in a few different channels. Their current business models (IMO) won't adapt well to this, especially if they try and do it as single-print licensing which will inevitably get hacked and pop up on multiple download sites. Either way, they need to get ready for it in the next 3-10 years when these machines approach individual/club prices and become pretty common in the hobby.
  22. Having read most of the Cain novels, I immediately pictured Courtney Cox with a shotgun. I don't know what that says about me or my focus/retention from the Cain novels.
