  1. Shotguns are my preferred load-out as generalist/utility followed by snipers as a dedicate role in my army. Sure, shotguns aren't the pinnacle of single-purpose efficiency, but they also don't restrict your options like most other options either (IMO).
  2. Carcassonne is my wife's favorite 'board' game, she isolated I pick up every expansion I could, so we bought the big box set and everything since. The only expansion we're not sold on is The Wheel. If you want to add some competitive depth, I recommend The Tower expansion. It really helped balance run away early leaders, but also tempers long term farmer placement really early on. Hills and Sheep is nice, but isn't our favorite. Traders and Builders is another good one though.
  3. If Only I needed more than just DoW2: Retribution. Still an awesome deal on a great series of pseudo-classic (by computer standards) games.
  4. I've got one due late next month and our first will be 3 at the end of the year. I'm frantically trying to tie up any hobby loose ends while I can... "I remember gaming and I remember it being good..."
  5. YES! This is the fix I've wanted to see for large ships in tournament play for a long time! Personally, I like the firespray a bit more than the yv-666, but I'm crap at flying either of them.
  6. Those include all the cards/dials, etc. normally included with each?
  7. I think the appeal is that it is a pretty reliable 1-2 points of damage that strips defenses off targets at range 2-3 (3 being the valuable part) without requiring a focus token or other action. I agree that the potential output isn't amazing, but put that on a high PS ship to consistently attack before your spuds and you can remove evade and focus tokens in most cases leaving the target vulnerable to weaker (2-dice) attacks later in the round. As a secondary weapon which denies a defensive bonus at range 3 the target is more inclined to have to use tokens if they want to get through the attacks unscathed. Put that on Kavil for 4 attack dice outside of arc and you're pretty hard pressed to not put damage on the target. Alternatively, put it on a low PS ship and between the two 3-dice attacks they can bat clean-up for the rest of your shooting to finish something off.
  8. Thanks for the input all, it is greatly appreciated. Fortunately, a lot of this isn't new, just a matter of implementing and organizing. I'll post here (Ordo) with more items and updates on any league/game-night development for the location.
  9. Hi All, My friend who co-owns the Portland Game Store has asked me to tap the Ordo community (we're the ideal kind of players for the most part) for ideas on getting a recurring 40k league or open gaming night started in their store on weekends. Do you (or did you) frequent a FLGS to scratch your grimdark itch? If so, was there any particular draw to bring players into the store you'd suggest they try to repeat in their setting to bring this aspect of gaming to life? Any helpful input or suggestions are appreciated. Mods, if there is a better location for this thread, please feel free to move it as necessary.
  10. Join the Cartel Ordo Fanaticus if you can, that will be the test to see if it is cross platform.
  11. New game on Android (and iOS?). Let me know if you're playing and want to join a cartel. Be warned that we have achieved our quota for pink male Twi'leks...
  12. Hi, My name is Bosco and I'm not good at flying the K-Wing. "Hi Bosco..." I like to consider myself reasonably competent at X-wing. I'm never going to be an amazing player (I have an increasingly limited amount of gaming time and am honestly not that competitively minded anymore), but I like to be able to hold my own in friendly play. I've flown the K-wing a couple times and just haven't liked the results. It is just begging to be either overloaded with secondary weapons that don't get used up before it gets popped OR it takes a bunch of less-than-ideal shots just to use up the ordinance ASAP and justify those points before it gets chewed off the map with loaded tubes... I've played with Miranda Doni and the Gunner for shield shenanigans and generally wasn't impressed with the results; she moved too late in the phase to bomb effectively (I didn't plan ahead and use mines...) and shot less frequently than I'd hoped SLAMing around the board to avoid getting shot up most of the time. Overall, too many points doing too little. I am thinking I want to try the opposite approach and go cheap and early to catch as many as I can with mines before they move at a higher PS. Some base setup like: Warden Squadron Pilot (PS2, 23 points) Advanced SLAM (2) Extra Munitions (2) That is 27 points base which, I can drop another 3-8 points in cluster/proximity mines or conner nets onto that and litter the field with Advanced SLAM fueled positioning. For another point I can have a Bombardier ride shotgun and further expand the positioning options. Thoughts? Anyone had luck otherwise?
  13. Dont panic covered the majority of the topic, the only thing I would add is they're upping 'standard' play to 400 points with wave 2. Depending on your preferred faction/playstyle I'd put the realistic buy-in amount closer to $200-250 unless you want to run a minimal amount of ships loaded with upgrades that might not come into play. Like X-Wing, individual expansion packs/ships have specific cards, so for competitive play they're more or less forcing you to buy one of each ship if you want to have all the options available.
  14. I know, right? It was like he'd never done that before or something...
  15. Thank you all who came out and played this Sunday, I hope it was a good time and I'll post about our next tournament when I have a schedule. Congrats to Ordo's very own Burk on taking 1st place; it came down to a 44 point MoV spread separating 1st from 2nd.
  16. Burk, I meant to ask on Tuesday and forgot, the new TIE's seem worth the points? I think you were the only one flying them there. Congrats on the win, btw, well done.
  17. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/9/4/man-your-ships/ Well that certainly didn't take long. Now to determine these 'select Force Friday locations'...
  18. We've still got a few player slots open for this tournament and I found out last night they're giving us an FFG tournament support packet to use as prize support as well (tokens, alt-art cards, etc.). If you've been waiting to check out the store, this is a great chance to come see the place, meet some great people and have a shot at free prize support.
  19. Awesome timing! I'd been talking with my wife about trying to be more involved with the community this year, I'm definitely interested in this.
  20. I think my only serious gripe with the ITC is some of their poll results have been a bit 'creatively' interpreted or the questions themselves rather leading/limiting in the past. That said, I'd rather play with it than without it or an equivalent standardization method. Like Necrontyr said, 7th (sandbox) edition isn't tournament friendly without help.
  21. Yeah, we're there tonight starting around 6pm, going until close.
  22. Still one of my favorite fools jokes (hobby related). On topic, I have actually taken to buying the little 3-pack of reaper dropper bottles (empty) and pouring my airbrush-medium-thinned GW paints into those because of the massive improvement they make every time I need a few drops of a given color. I find I prefer the vallejo model/game air series bottles best; Minitaire isn't bad, but there isn't enough of a spout to their design to avoid the inevitable slop when you first use them. GW designers might have just never used an actual airbrush before...
  23. I saw that recently, I'm curious about the quality, but already hate their bottle design for pouring/dispensing their existing paint line. Dropper-tops FTW!
