  1. I'm late to the party, sorry. Is this the tentative start date for all ordo leagues? If so, does the new player league still have slots to fill?
  2. Just got started with Bolt Action after a friend started playing; in Portland. American army (no clue about theater/timeline, not terribly well read about actual armies in general) is my first army, fairly generic overall. Also ordered a buncha Aussies, couldn't resist the idea of jungle fighting Paul Hogan's.
  3. Hi Ordo, If you're an X-wing player looking for something to do this Sunday, there is an escalation style tournament at the Portland Game Store you should check out. X-WING ESCALATION TOURNAMENT The Portland Game Store will bee hosting an X-Wing Miniatures escalation tournament this Sunday, 9/11, at 922 N Killingsworth st in Portland, OR. Entry to the tournament is $10 and can be paid in advance at the store. All games will be played on standard 3x3 playmats. Players are required to bring all required ships, cards, templates, dice, and 3 unique obstacles from the FFG tournament legal list along with two written/printed copies of their lists for each round including points values and totals. Actual FFG cards for pilots and upgrades must be used, no proxies or substitutes. Each round after the first must use all ships/pilots/upgrades in all the following rounds and upgrades may not be moved between ships/pilots. Ships may be added each round after the first provided your list does not exceed the points limit for that round. Upgrades may be added to ships/pilots from previous rounds, but once added must be included in all following rounds. Escalation Format: Round 1 50 points, 40 minutes* Round 2 75 points, 60 minutes* Round 3 100 points, 75 minutes* Round 4 125 points, 100 minutes* Round 5 150 points, 120 minutes* *round length may end prematurely if all participants have completed their games or extended if deemed necessary by the tournament organizer (TO). Reserves: Ships held in reserve are not deployed at the game setup but instead enter the board at a later round from the owning player's board edge performing a maneuver from the dial of that ship chosen by the owning player (this does not constitute revealing a maneuver and red maneuvers still cause stress unless upgrades or pilot abilities otherwise prevent this). Ships may not make any attacks during the combat phase or deploy a bomb/mine on the turn they enter from reserves, but may perform an action after completing their maneuver following all normal rules. Starting with the 3rd turn,at the end of the activation phase (but before the start of the combat phase) each player rolls 3 attack dice for each ship held in reserves, 2 or more hits/crits means a ship arrives from reserves, no abilities or upgrades may be used to modify the roll results. A ship which fails to arrive from reserves before the end of the round or all friendly ships being destroyed is also considered destroyed for tournament scoring purposes. *In round 4 you may keep one ship of 25 points or less (including upgrade cards) in reserve. *In round 5 you may keep any number of ships up to a combined 50 points (including upgrade cards) in reserve, but must keep a minimum of 1 ship in reserve. Schedule: 12:00pm Players check in and submit one copy of their lists to the TO 12:30pm Round 1 1:10pm Lunch 2:00pm Round 2 3:10pm Round 3 4:35pm Round 4 5:45pm Round 5 7:45pm Cleanup and prizes

  5. Sweet. Purely out of curiosity (both since it is OFCC so fun is the point and also because I tend to crater in competitive play) is there any tournament points bias/weighting towards later rounds int eh escalation event on Sunday or flat values for each round regardless of points value?
  6. Well, up until I read this I was excited for the 2nd most dangerous game. Now, not so much. Back to plan A I suppose...
  7. As a mechanical engineer looking to change employers myself (and generally been keeping an eye on the market for a while), I can say that there is a much broader demand in the Portland area for Civil Engineers than I'm seeing for ME's, but I'm also a bit picky. Lots of structural openings and some environmental opportunities as well, based on craigslist/monster/linkedin/indeed/glassdoor postings I see in my common searches. It might be worth looking at the area of focus/interest and seeing how that applies locally if you aren't looking to move.
  8. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/x-wing-2016-store-championships/ Shows 3 in Portland, one in Beaverton, and another in Vancouver (Dice Age). Also one in Corvallis if you feel like making a drive. I'm running the event at The Portland Game Store, but we haven't settled on the date at this time, it should be in March though. I'll post to Ordo once dates are firmed up. It isn't terribly expensive for a store to run other than having to make sure they have mats available, etc. The player entry covers the prize pack from FFG.
  9. There are still people in the PDX area that do. I believe The Portland Game Store has a night dedicated to Armada on a weekly basis (Friday, IIRC), so that might be worth checking out. Those I know that do play tend to play X-wing as well and usually have a preference between the two game systems.
  10. "I'm going to go play with my dolls." "They aren't dolls, they're minis!" "They are if I brush their hair."
  11. All my minis are dolls, hence my signature quote (from a conversation with a co-worker who used to play 40k).
  12. Un-thinned older paints with chunks. Maybe put some really fine sand in sparsely to add some texture? Really though, I do think that is the result of old, chunky, un-thinned paint.
  13. Carcassonne (and its many expansions, an easy intro for non-gamers) Power Grid (can be complex and involved, a bit long too) Tokaido (light and easy)
  14. Well, I just giggled at the 2nd picture's "Exclusive Pull-Out Scenario" bubble in the upper corner of the page. My inner 13-yr old is still strong... And now back to HH...
  15. 100 point X-WING TOURNAMENT: The Force Awakens In celebration of the latest release in the Star Wars saga The Portland Game Store will be hosting an X-Wing miniatures tournament Sunday, December 20th. $VII ($7 if Roman numerals are too much work) entry, signup in advance in-store is recommended. 16 spots available and all entry funds will be handed out in store-credit gift-certificates; 50% to 1st, 30% to 2nd, and 20% to the most 'Episode VII' list of the day. In the event of a tie for most 'Episode VII', tournament points will be used as a tie-breaker followed by cumulative MoV; 1st and 2nd place winners not eligible for the 'Most Episode VII' prize. 100 point squads, all pilot and upgrade cards being used are required, no proxies allowed. The most recent official FAQs will be in use. Players are required to bring three obstacles (asteroids or debris fields) of their choice along with all rules, templates, tokens, etc. for all items/ships in their squad along with 5 printed copies of their list (one copy for the organizer and 4 opponents). Schedule for the day: 12:00-12:59 - Arrive, check in (eat lunch beforehand, please) 1:00-2:00 - Round 1 2:10-3:10 - Round 2 3:20-4:20 - Round 3 4:30-5:45 - Final Round (75 minutes) Fly casual!
  16. Bring it on, Imperials! https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/12/4/lothal-rebels-part-one/ https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/12/11/lothal-rebels-part-two/
  17. The Portland Game Store at 922 N Killingsworth has a Wednesday night league. Friendly folks and a good sized recurring crowd along with snacks, drinks, and lots of nearby food choices. Entry into the league isn't required to play.
  18. I was hoping to make it to this, but leaving my wife with our new baby and 3 year old son isn't in my best interest this afternoon, so I'm going to have to miss it. I'm still interested in the praetor program and appreciate any notes or documentation on the program that are available following the meeting.
  19. This group plays from 6-close (10ish) on Wednesday nights and typically has between 12-20 players each week with snacks and drinks (including beer/cider) in-store and a variety of restaurants in the vicinity. We strive to be a friendly, accommodating group and welcome anyone to drop in and check it out with players of all skill levels and a monthly league that isn't mandatory to play in to participate.
  20. Made that much more disturbing because that's her father...
  21. Oh, definitely healthy doses of joking and rose-tint in my previous post. In any edition of 40k there has always been that build that exploits the rules of the era and the BRB CAD definitely doesn't prevent certain builds from gutting most other opponents except hard-counter builds. My last two OFCC army appearances have been from the classic CAD setup (though last year's was supposed to have been a different army from the Baal Strike Force), mechanized Salamanders Space Marines. Against most other armies I've played they hold their own reasonably well, but I also try hard to focus on playing the objectives rather than trying to table an opponent.
  22. Classichammer 40k! I know 7th is super-fun-sandbox-toys edition, but I think a lot of us can recall the glory days of 3rd-4th-5th ed when everyone had the same CAD and we liked it that way. A time when only Apocalypse games were the realm of nigh-unkillable super units that had to ride shotgun, belted in, wrapped in foam, and wearing a Mariners cap so you could use the carpool lane on the trip to your friend's while the rest of your minis rattled around in the back in a Michael's craft tote. A time when seeing a flyer was something special or that you were hanging out with your friend that still lived in his parents' basement and was free to shovel money into such luxuries. A time when Forgeworld's resin existed only in the form of modeling upgrades like shoulder pads and extra armor. AFK, gotta go work on my time machine... has anyone got a DeLorean I can borrow?
  23. Or buy the complete set 3-5 years later for $10 when they're trying to scrape up any final sales from a title, which is more or less the same thing you said.
  24. Most regular players can manage 300 points, but like dont panic mentioned, 400 points is the new standard after the wave 2 ships are officially released.
  25. The Portland Game Store has some Armada in-store on Fridays from 6pm until close. They have beer and snacks along with some good meal options in easy walking distance. You might try giving that a shot. 922 N Killingsworth St. Portland, OR 97217
