  1. I have gotten the impression that you nominate a spell roll a d6 for number of dice max you can use on it then attempt to cast, but is that die roll the max number you can roll on it? (ie for fireball can I choose to roll only 1-2 dice even if a 6 is rolled?) Also for spells with multiple versions (fireball again) do I have to nominate which version I'm attempting before rolling the d6 to see the dice max? Also is there anything stating that you have to roll at least enough dice to make casting possible? (ie can I say I'm attempting a big spell like pit of shades but if I only roll 3 dice making it unlikely can I just opt to roll a min 1d6 at it knowing it will fail automatically to save power dice for other spells that phase).
  2. For more information on cruisehammer the official site is in construction but you can see pictures of the event on the facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/cruisehammer
  3. Crappy, I'm just running the event for the guy, I'll be at yours and hopefully some of the people can find a way to make both, as they'll be pretty different events.
  4. Cruisehammer event! TSHFT will be the first Cruisehammer event qualifier for Cruisehammer 2016. For both Warhammer Fantasy and 40k we will be giving away 4 (yes 4!!) tickets for each event as well as $1000 in raffled prizes. Cruise tickets will be given to the following: Best Overall, Best Sportsman, Best Painted and one ticket raffled off to a lucky random participant! The $1000 in prizes will also be raffled off amongst all participants. Currently Cruisehammer is planned for June 2016 and is expected to be a cruise to Alaska leaving from Vancouver, but this is subject to change based upon availability of conference space on the boat to Alaska being up to our requirements. More info on this will be passed along once information on cruises for that season are available sometime in May of 2015.

What constitutes an exceptional conversion is determined at the sole discretion of the Tournament Organizers. Send pictures of your model in advance if you have any doubts. All Special Character LoWs such as Ghaz, Draigo, etc. can be used. Please note, the Impending Doom (+1 to Seize the Initiative for a player facing a LoW who does not have one), and Through Attrition, Victory (+1 Victory Point for every 3 Hull Points or Wounds done to a LoW, counted towards the secondary mission) special rules will be in effect if either player in a given game has a Super Heavy or Gargantuan Creature Lord of War, but not for a Special Character LoW such as Draigo. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game, wins. Equal points is a tie. The tournament is W/L/D format, with accumulated points used to determine standings within a given final bracket. For example, if you end the event with a 4-1 record, you will be ranked within that bracket according to how many battle points you accumulated throughout the event. The official scoring is 1,000pts for a win, 500pts for a tie and then accumulated points within the game. So, a player with a 4-1 record who accumulated 6 points in each of his 5 games would end with a final score of (4,030 points). We score it this way so that the W/L/D record trumps accumulated points, but points earned throughout the tournament matter in determining your precise ranking in the event. Pairings are Swiss style, based on strength of schedule. Rules Judgments TSHFT use a passive judge system. What is a passive judge system? In a passive judge system, judges and TO’s are responsible for any disputes and they are expected to keep the event running smoothly. However, Judges and TO’s are not responsible for the fairness of any games. Judges are not actively involved in your games, even when they spot a player error. Therefore, players are responsible for making sure their games play according to the rules. Here are a few examples of what players might be responsible for: legal army list, proper use of items, correctly applying FAQs, etc for both you and your opponent. Judges will only be involved if a player requests to resolve a dispute, when this occurs all judgments are final. TSHFT will allow any agreement or modification of game-play between players. Terrain, mission packages or special rules will be the most common form of agreement. Example: one set of players might want to say a piece of terrain is a ruin and other set of players say it is impassable. However, both players can enter into an agreement on anything they feel like it. For example: if BOTH players agree that lasgun should be "STR 10 AP 1 assault, ignore cover" then so be it. In order to revoke an agreement BOTH players need to agree on that as well. What constitutes cheating? TSHFT is a competitive tournament and will assume all players are well versed in the rules related to this event. A intention of changing the mechanics of the game without an agreement. example: loaded dice, incorrect measuring device, model for advantage etc, etc. Misinformation on rules and mis-measurement are not considered cheating. Players are responsible for their game plays according to all rules. Any answer or not answering by your opponent might have the potential to be considered an agreement. Example 1: Player 1. Do you have any AP 3 weapon? Player 2: No. Game event: end turn move on to player 2's turn. Player 2: O, my Heldrake is AP 3. Player 1: You just told me you did not have any AP 3. Solution: Player 2 has entered an agreement with player 1 that he does not have any AP 3 weapon; therefore, Heldrake's flamers are now considered not AP3. Since it is player 2 who misinformed player 1, the benefit will goes to player 1 and now Heldrake's Flamers are consider AP 4 or worst for the rest of the game. Player 2 does have the option to not answer player 1's question (by not answering; player 2 is not taking any responsibility) or give him an answer that is not absolute. After all, it is player 1’s responsibility to know player 2's army and answer that question himself. Player 1 can also request player 2 to produce his codex for him as a reference. Example 2: Player 1: I am going to run with Relic. Player 2: go ahead Game event: after few turns Player 2: you can't run with Relic, we need to go back and redo it Solution: player 2 has agreed to the rule change in the BRB to where you can run with Relic. Player 1: I am going to run with Relic. Player 2's action: silence Game event: after few turns Player 2: you can't run with Relic, we need to go back and redo it Solution: player 2 is agreed to change the rule in the BRB to where you can run with Relic. However, since player 2 did not actively agree to the condition then the agreement is on a turn by turn basis. Rules Judgments Rules issues will be dealt with swiftly by a roaming judge. We use a hierarchy for determining rules issues as follows: 1. Main Rule Book 2. FAQs and Erratas 3. IGTC FAQ 4. TSHFT TO have the final say All decision are final. However, if you think the ruling is wrong you can appeal to ITC Ruling Body for future events. Sports Sportsmanship will be handled as a simple thumbs-up, thumbs-down check box on the results sheet. The temptation to ding someone on sports after a tough loss is often too much for many players to resist. We therefore are providing a very narrowly defined set of terms under which a player may mark their opponent with a thumbs down mark on sportsmanship. This system is intended to punish those who are being abusive, but to not allow chimpmunking. After a great deal of real world use, we have found this system to work very well. Legitimate reasons to give an opponent a thumbs down on sports: Your opponent was 15 or more minutes late to the round. Your opponent was verbally abusive. This does not mean you argued with your opponent or that your personalities clashed, but that they were verbally abusive and insulting. Your opponent intentionally cheated. Be prepared to support your case to a judge. Your opponent slow played. We define slow playing as not completing 3 game turns of play. In the case of 20 or less minutes left to play, divide the time remaining between players to complete one full GAME turn. Time each other during this period to ensure that each player has an equal amount of time to complete a full game turn. If one player does not finish within their limit, the other player can force them to stop and then begin their turn. This mechanic is in place to ensure no one is slow played out of a turn of play. What does NOT constitute a thumbs down on sports? You argued over rules with your opponent. Your opponent beat you. You didn’t like your opponent’s army. Your opponent thinks the Black Lion never should have been the head of Voltron. The Green Lion was way cooler. NERD RAGE!!! A negative mark on sportsmanship will be met with administrative action as follows: First thumbs down: A verbal warning from a judge, up to reversing a win to a loss. Second thumbs down: Reversing a win to a loss, up to disqualification from any prize support. Third thumbs down: disqualification from any prize support, up to expulsion from the event with no refund of the ticket price. Fourth thumbs down: Expulsion from the event with no refund of the ticket price. WYSIWYG All models are expected to be WYSIWYG as much as is reasonable. Proxies are not permitted. Counts As armies with counts as allies will only be permitted if they represent a clearly concerted effort to build a unique army around an obvious theme. For example, an Adeptus Mechanicus army using extensive kit bashing and conversions will be fine. If you go this route, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A HANDOUT TO SHOW YOUR OPPONENT THAT SHOWS WHAT EACH UNIT IN YOUR ARMY IS ALONG WITH ITS STATS AND PERTENANT RULES! You must also present this to them prior to the game so that they have time to understand what they are playing against. There will be no exceptions to this. If your army uses only a single Codex but if for example you have Crimson Fists models using the Blood Angels Codex, or Chaos models using the Space Wolves Codex, that is acceptable. Allies for this type of army however, MUST be represented by their actual models. This is to avoid confusion. No exceptions. If you are using converted or scratch built models with Forge World rules, this is acceptable so long as your model is as close to the represented model as possible in terms of equipment, size and shape. We will not be lenient with this. If you have any questions about your army, ask us prior to the event so that we can let you know if what you have will be acceptable or not. Summoned models must be accurately represented! Again, counts as in a clearly themed list are allowed, but proxies are not. Modeling for Advantage There is a fine line between creative freedom and modeling for advantage. We do not wish to stifle anyone’s creativity, but in the end, this is a game that relies heavily upon the physical characteristics of the models being used. Modeling for advantage will be handled on a case by case basis. To resolve a possible abusive situation, follow these steps: Ask the player to play the model as if it were a GW standard, modern version. Call a judge to ask for a judgement. Possibly substitute the model with an appropriate replacement. Examples of what we consider modeling for advantage: Using out of date and inappropriately sized models such as the rogue trader era Eldar Avatar (which currently is a large, monstrous creature model but back then, was the size of a Space Marine, which would now grant huge advantages due to being so much smaller) or Gorka Morka Trukks (which are less than half the size of modern versions). If an army is made predominantly of Rogue Trader era minis (or any era) and is clearly going for a theme, then exceptions will be made. If it appears to a judge that the player is in fact modeling for advantage, then action will be taken. Increasing or decreasing the size of models to gain an advantage in gaining or granting cover. Custom Battle Wagons often fall into this category. Altering a model to increase the range of a model or to benefit your LOS. Terrain Hills: All rolling hills are open terrain, granting 4+ cover via LOS blocking/interference as normal but do not count as difficult terrain. Rock Towers, Crates, and Can Towers: Are impassible and block LOS completely (even if there are actual gaps in the terrain pieces). All other terrain functions as outlined in the book BRB pg. 108-113. Terrain Data Slates will not be used for the ITC 2014.
  6. No need for facebook, 40k will mirror the LVO almost exactly, you can see their stuff here: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/las-vegas-open-hotel-booking/las-vegas-open-2015-warhammer-40k-championships/ I'll work on getting the website as the main point of contact rather than the facebook page.
  7. I was under the impression the king of cascadia was going to be a small event for top masters players only, am I wrong on that?

  9. Hey Jim, I can bring down frontline gaming mats for the tables if you like, maybe like 10 of the grass ones?
  10. Is there a way to be able to skype in to these meetings? may be more inclined to be a ordo champion then ;)
  11. Ok I would like to point out there is no reason to beat it. There's a reason deathstars don't exist in our current meta up here, because when you're playing at a high level deathstars don't work. Nothing to charge 1st turn, divert it for 3 turns, it gets 1-2 turns to do anything (if that) while I destroy the rest of your army with my army that doesn't have deathstars and thus is harder to be bogged down by diverters. You having a deathstar works wonders for my game as you end up having 1000+ of your army that I don't have to worry about all game. Talking with Chris Powell, that's exactly how he managed the game against Bronson's Ogres. When you've got that many points tied up in one unit I get to dictate the game not you. Even when the unit is as fast as Cold ones. (obviously some armies like dwarfs don't have diverters in the same sense, but all the top tier armies do have good diversion and all the mid-lower tier armies don't, see a trend??).
  12. Since I've been a part of each and every smashhammer game, it goes without saying (but I'm saying it anyways) that I'm always up for a smashhammer game.
  13. Is it wrong that I'm amused by the fact that 5 of the top 8 are Canadian? If I had enough disposable income to go I may even have to weasel my way into those rankings as well ;)
  14. The Fairmont Empress is an impressive hotel and the rate you get it at is EXTREMELY good (read about 1/2 price of regular room rate) it's a place that the Queen of England has stayed in, and is old architecture with lots of character, a good place to bring the wife for the weekend as Victoria has plenty of stuff for her to do while you get your geek on. Also Gottacon has some very good cosplay and lots of other things going on making it an amazing time!
  15. When you coming down Flug? Mark and I may be able to swing by and pick you up (we're coming down Thurs night and returning Sunday afternoon).
  16. I'm sorry, have you guys woken up and learned to play warhammer in the last year? I seem to recall the 1st place American team was after the last place Canadian team... I totally agree about the Tims/Starbucks thing by the way. I have my Starbucks daily and rarely drink Tim's coffee, besides now that it's owned by Burger King it's not like we need to be patriotic about it anymore. Even though Canada is only sending down 3 teams this year, we're still coming down to drink your beer and steal your women, and take home trophies too!
  17. I'm sure Mark and I can hook you up Steve!
  18. Hardcore is usually 20SS henchmen lead, fixed list and no more than 4 models. Hopefully Josh can confirm that that's the case.
  19. Personally at my events I'm considering allowing it but enforcing it to conform to the regular percentages (i.e. 25% lord, 25% special, min 25% core, 50% special, 25% rare). Will be interesting to see how other events deal with this supplement going forward.
  20. Bryan, I don't see Mr Goodfellow on there as paid anywhere.... I sure hope he plans on coming out drinking with us!
  21. As with any event, there is a certain percentage of last minute drops due to life issues. This tournament is no different but due to the team nature, ends up creating some other logistical issues. the teams end up requiring last minute replacements and then those lists need to be added to our pool to be rated. My guess is that teams that had to do payer swaps won't be penalized (as long as they get the list in promptly and have put their main lists in already) and that teams that are just too lazy to submit lists will be penalized.
  22. Things were delayed in the process, as a result, rating committee members are still working with teams on some lists. There are lists being shared in the captains forums, although I am assuming we're still missing a bunch from there as well.. Does this answer your questions?
