  1. If you bought the part separate it would cost over $100 and the damage deck, movement tool and bits come free. The issue some are having is that some companies have been having Cheap starters with less than great models rules wise so you have to buy new models shortly after to replace the ones you got with the starter. In other words it might not seem like a great deal until you break it down and look at what you get and what little else you need to have a great fleet. If you go Empire you can go with a dice set, GSD and a Squadron pack and you are set until wave 2. Heck throw another VSD in and you're talking about a complete 300 point fleet with tons of options and all the imperial ships for under $200. What other game can you do this? Even X-Wing looks great at first until you realize you have to buy two starter sets and then the other ships to get a good variety which comes to about $200. So how are you saving in the long run. That's how I am looking at it, the Long Run not the Buy In becuase I have watched a lot of companies throw out cheap starters becuase they know you have to buy a couple hundred more to remain competitive. It's the sucker deal.
  2. Questionable Loyalties? I have none! *Pew Pew* "Make the jump to Hyperspace." Fulcrum Lives!
  3. That implies that we are out to scare the general populace when in fact we only target Military and Government buildings so we can free the citizens. That makes us Freedom Fighters! But if you feel terror when you hear our name I understand, the Empire isn't really know for its bravery.
  4. Well consider this, the majority of players are going Empire. So if you don't mind playing the same faction as everyone else go for Empire. If you want to fly the faction no one else will be familiar with go Rebels. I really have seen a lot of people interested in Empire and few in Rebels, and as a Rebel player that is fine by me. Gives me an edge.
  5. It was suppose to. But there were some port issues that throw their whole release schedule out the window and under the bus.
  6. Interesting article. I honestly have put all 9th Ed and End Times to bed and have been focusing on other projects for now. I honestly do not know what will happen becuase what the rumors say seems too drastic but then they did destroy everything in the story line so now it is a blank slate that needs to be filled. This is GW's time to show their merit as a Gaming Company and find a way to make this change work since no other gaming company has ever tried to kill off their story line to reboot it and expect to increase sales. I see it as more than an edition change if the rumors are right, a lot of the rules might stay the same but the Amries and characters will all be different and alien to us. The only armies I see not changing as a whole are the WoC and DoC. Everyone else has been altered immensely. If they do succeed they really are a good company. If they don't then they will spiral downward until FFG just buys them out instead of buying their IP's.
  7. Well the good news is the exact position of the ships is not 'as' important as it is in X-Wing but players should still strive to be as consistent as possible. My first impression is still lots of love even though we really Need the first wave to bring the game in line with factions. (The Rebels don't have the fire power and the Empire doesn't have the movement.) When wave 1 hits the game will take off then when Wave 2 hits, say good bye to your spare money and game time.
  8. Well there will definitely be tricks and when wave hits. Surprisingly if you read the threads on the FFG site the games are honestly more even than you would think. The VSD can throughout punishing hit but it is by far not immortal. The trick is to outmaneuver it and bring the fighters. At 180 with Tarkin and those upgrades you will not have much left for Tie support and X-Wings can take down a VSD by themselves if the Ties can't stop them the VSD doesn't have the anti-squadron dice to handle them and Luke is a VSD's worst nightmare. The key in my mind is focus on objectives first and Ties second. Do not engage the VSD till I am ready and keep it at a distance till I can get my ships around. Now if a CR90 B with the Overload upgrade can get a crit then the VSD exhaust all its defense dice. Send in the X-Wings with the Nebulon B and the VSD will be crippled. Easier said then done but if you navigate the capitals right then the VSD will not be able to get a good shoot off either. Unfortunately till wave 1 hits it will be a Hit & Run game for the Rebels. They can not stand toe to toe with a Fat VSD.
  9. Rule number one for All Rebel players, Never Never Joust a Star Destroyer. All our ships have the speed and Yaw to out manouver them and even if you can't avoid the long range los of the front hull you can avoid the 6 dice of death. I flew the VSD twice and that thing steers like a building, the Rebel ships can avoid that zone of death.
  10. Not a 100% fix but this now solves Jim's problem. So Jim you didn't waste money now and can continue to run your X-Wing events with no worries. This is great.
  11. That's why I want to see this issue solved. Everyone is concerned about this but I don't see how they can make Anyone follow this outside of FFG events run by FFG reps. So it appears only a ruling for those events. Lots of TO's bend some of the rules for local events and this one looks like it is going to be thrown a long ways out the door. It is just dumb for them to expect TO's to make this happen at a local level unless they send you free mats for events.
  12. Alright, I sent an email myself to FFG to get to the bottom of this Mat issue. I hope to hear back soon and will post here on the forums and on the Facebook groups.
  13. I really really doubt any TO outside of National events where FFG supplies the matsfor the players will follow this at all. So far I have been on the FFG forums asking if anyone has contacted FFG about this rule and how it will be enforced if it is. But no one has heard back from FFG yet so I wouldn't be concerned unless you really really want to use your mat at a Tournament that supplies the mats for you. (The mats and tables are to be supplied by the TO and this rule is for them, not us.) So unless FFG supplies them with mats it will never never be enforced. Period.
  14. Ah man, I bet he goes out in an epic battle where he's standing shooting with blasters in each hand with rebel bodies all around him and it takes three Jedi's to take him down. Going out like a Bad Ass. No way he goes out like a bitch standing there in denial with his hand just sitting on his chin.
  15. Well on the Rebel side of things I have believed Fat Han needs to go on a diet. Also hasn't the Auto Thrusters helped against Han and Dash?
  16. Well yes, it is a Nerf but let's face it Whisper lists were winning every tournament for the last year and the upgrade combos made the Phantom the King of the hill by a Long lead. Now it will be harder to arc dodge, yes but it is still a great ship with 4 deffense and 4 attack dice. That is still better than any other ship on the table.
  17. Yea, like I said some sources don't seem to follow the current canon and that is to be expected with years and years of books and comics and George did let things slide for sometime. But best I can figure is the he was a Lt. Governor before rejoining the military which I believe bestows him a title of Moff according to Sith tradition. Once he was in the military again became a Captain. This was around 24 bby if I am correct, then he sent a rough draft of the Tarkin Doctrine, which he plagiarized but didn't send the final draft of it till 18 bby which is about the time he is introduced in the Clone Wars. The second time we see him in the Clone Wars he was made an Admiral. This must have been right after he finish his paper. The interesting part of the History of the Tarkin Doctrine is that it was the paper that Palpatine used to come up with the idea of the Death Star but the plans were already under way in Episode II, so Palpatine must have started the DS with only reading the first submission of the Doctrine in 24 bby. The issue of having multiple authors for one character.
  18. Wait, so I decided to look up Tarkin's history for a more complete picture and it turns out he was a Lt. Governor in the Outer Rim before returning to the military where he became a Captain in the grand army. That is when he plagiarized and wrote the Tarkin Doctrine. So he was both a Captain and Moff at the time. Learn something new everyday.
  19. He was just a Captain at the time. In fact he was still a Captian when he meet Anakin for the first time when Tarkin was freed from the Citedal on the planet Lola Sayu. That was a few years after Tarkin wrote his paper and he was already in the good favor of Palpatine. You also have to remember that different sources has Tarkin in different positions at the time of writing the Doctrine. Some have him a Governor, some a Captain, but only the Movies, The Clone Wars and the Rebels are now Canon this puts Tarkin as a Captain instead of a Mof. Depending on where you get your source from you're right, form a certain point of view.
  20. My kid is the 8 year old who was explaining to me how atoms share electrons with each other and that is what makes up molecules, then he wanted my old molecule model set from my days in college chemistry. I'll wear that Super Nerd title with pride.
  21. Well if I told you the SSD was a result of the Tarkin Doctrine writen in 18bby by Captain Tarkin which got Palpitine's attention that began Tarkin's rise through the ranks would that change your mind?
  22. We have had the discussion on the FFG forums and the issue is that if the SSD would were to scale it would be over 2 meters in game. It would need to be down scaled over 70% to be the size of the CR90 in X-Wing. The thing is HUGE!
  23. The FFG Armada forum has had a melt down this week waiting for Armada and hearing about the Wave 2 coming out. It's quite funny.
  24. Before I was all for trying to guess what was going to happen next. Up untill the last book I thought I had a decent idea, but now.......... I have no clue where they're going. They may run 9th in the Twilight hour of the ET or they may ..... who knows? No miniature company has ever done this before and the risk is Huge! But my predictions are this, of they manage to pull off a solid rules set that is balanced-ish they have a chance to pick up a few more sales for the short term but the long term depends on the fluff and if it is appealing. If they try to just throw rules out there to sell models that are still priced high..... yeah, there are a lot of other game companies who are going to be very happy. The Second highest selling miniature game out there is X-Wing right behind 40K and they are catching up fast. The days of GW relying on their household name is ending fast and they need to wake up or FFG will be buying them out in 10 years. The next generation of gamers won't put up with GW's antics. They need a new PR program. They are still running on business models from the 80's, they need to change their approach, not just the fluff and IP rights.
  25. I am playing the wait and see game now. Anything can happen. In the mean time a lot of things are happening in other games that will keep my attention till then. And if it sucks..... well they just announced the second wave to Star Wars Armada. I should be investing in that.
