  1. Are you sure they struggle, I've been doing just fine? What kind of DE lists have you been playing? Which brings me to my next question. Are you sure you have the strongest magic phase? Dark Elves with a level 4 dark wizard can lay down a bunch of spells per turn. I'm just confused now.
  2. The only problem I see is that you don't have the staying power with the BG. You don't need warlocks or CoB to play competitive with Dark Elves.
  3. LoL....it's only 2 votes behiind the 1st list. What really suprises me is that Raindog hasn't posted here yet. I was expecting him to be one of the first responders to this thread.
  4. I have some suggestions for you, about your deployment. I'd love to discuss this with you on Sunday. As a general of the fast cav, I could give you some pointers as to what my weakness is. I'm pretty sure you already know though, but hey sometimes just discussing it opens up new options.
  5. Ok, explanation time. 1) The warlocks stay at 10. They are the delivery system for my masters. I need the LoS rolls from them for characters and when that unit is hit with Lore of Metal sig spells I can put them on 4+ ward save models. They aren't really there for doombolt. This unit will be charging, at the latest, by turn 2. If I go second, possibly turn 1. 2) A unit of harpies for a RBT, done and done. That's too easy. I was thinking more harpies because they could screen my lock bus for hard cover from shooting. However, I could see the value in a 3rd RBT. 3) I will tell you what. I just ran a level 4 dark magic, a level 2 shadow, and warlocks in a 2.5 list. Miasma was money in every game. Only needs a 5. When I get mind razor for that unit.....dueces! 4) The dreadlord is there to get on either the other flank or in the rear of their army fast. He needs to pull attention away from the bus. He kills big things on his own perfectly and can go head-to-head with the big stuff. 5) The dawnstone master is to accept challenges which may be issued. That's his only role. That 1+RR armour save has done me wonders in many games. 6) The CoK's won't keep up, I'm vangaurding that unit and going in fast. The brolock bus is because I can put LoS wounds and other crap onto 4++ if I don't want to risk say 4-5+ armour saves. 7) The warlocks aren't really there for magic. It's all about delivering the goods. However, shadow and soul blight are perfect when they get stuck somewhere and don't have the dark magic support. I had it save my butt in last weekends tournament.
  6. What I can say, I've played many lizardmen armies with my army and the skinks haven't done enough to my dark riders in any of the games to make me respect them. I've also had games with the 4D6 thing as well and that has made little impact. skinks have crap for ld, you just kill enough to force that panic check. 3D6 or not, it's still a hard one to make.
  7. You would need a really low number. You have to get your opponent to 3 fort in a 2.5k game. I know it's standards and general with that mission. However, at 1650, the units are smaller and you could get to below 5 in 2 turns.
  8. Most armies won't have 10 fortitude. It's pretty much a see if you can table your opponent type of scenario. @Rudra, I'm not sure about that. Your army has been a constat struggle. It's not an easy win, by any means. Also, I haven't used witches or executioneers before. I know what to do with them, I just don't know how I want to use them. I mean, a part of me wants to see what all the hype is about with 30 witches and a CoB but the other part of me just can't do it during game night.
  9. Ok, cool beans on the skinks Hero, the stadard isn't the same as the battle standard. Characters only carry battle standards not standards.
  10. I'm bringing 2 lists with me. I am going to play both. I'm running the witches in 2 units of 15. The CoB is for the executioneers.
  11. I need all of your insight on what you hate, like, are disgusted with, why this is cheesy, etc. This list is intended for competitve play only! I need to know what all of you think, from a COMPETITIVE side. Dreadlord w/heavy armour, shield, sea dragon cloak, dark pegasus, ogre blade, talisman of preservation, the other tricksters shard Supreme Sorceress w/dark magic, level 4, dark pegasus, cloak of twilight, staff of sorcerey Sorceress w/lore of shadow, level 2 wizard, dark steed, dispel scroll, ironcurse icon Master w/bsb, lance, sea dragon cloak, shield, dark steed, armour of destiny Master w/lance, heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, shield, dark steed, sword of might, dawnstone Maser w/lance, heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, shield, dark steed, ring of hotek Master w/lance, heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, shield, dark steed 10 Dark Riders w/musician, standard, shields, repeater crossbows 10 Dark Riders w/musician, standard, shields, repeater crossbows 10 Dark Riders w/ musician, standard, shields, repeater crossbows 5 Dark Riders w/musician, shields, repeater crossbows Cold One Chariot Cold One Chariot Reaper Bolt Thrower Reaper Bolt Thrower 5 Harpies 5 Harpies 5 Harpies 10 Doomfire Warlocks w/master of warlocks
  12. Is the slann unstable when he becomes ethereal? If not, he can still flee and be run down. I run 30 dark riders with 4+ armour save and a unit of 5 warlocks. Half my army is fast cav. S3 shooting doesn't scare me much, poison or not. In fact, I believe my shooting is more effective because I am getting a 4+ armour save while you don't get a save on your skinks from my RXbows (I don't think you are anyway, I can't remember if skinks are 5+ or 6+ scaly skin). I'm not trying to get the dark riders into contact with the slann. That was just an example. But yes, I live in the PDX area.
  13. Rudra, you going to be at game night? I challenge you, if you are! We've had some great games in the past, and I would like to continue the trend.
  14. Sounds simple enough to me and seems legit. How many participants are needed for the 1-day events? Actaully, I'm sending you a PM right meow.
  15. It's only +1. He's a BSB not a standard. If he was in a unit then he would get +2. You get +1 for a standard and +1 for a BSB. A BSB is not a standard, it's a BSB.
  16. How's he generating 2 CR? I am calculating 1 for a bsb. If it's from an upgrade, I'm not familar with the book to know about army specific options. All I do know, is that I have yet to fear a slann. This extends back to last edition when they could actually do stuff.
  17. @NtK, the first list is pretty close to my original army idea. The only a few differences for a tourny list. Three of them being war machines. @Munkie, yeah, it is pretty stale. I'm not denying that at all. As for the rune of parrying, I was just messing with different builds. I was thinking this- One needs to shut down blender lords (you take away the magic weapon and that usually does the trick) One needs to kill monsters (S10 D6 wounds should do the trick) One needs to secure quick combat results as well as shut down regen units (flaming attacks and breath weapon) I'm seriously thinking about taking that slayer list to a tournament in the future. I think it could actually get good results.
  18. Lastnight I finished assembling the following: 16 Longbeards w/great weapons- I'm using the warriors as my longbeards. 10 Irondrakes- these are some cool looking models 1 Runelord- I purchased it as part of my tournament entry so I put it together Now, I am working on a paint scheme. I am thinking about using a maroon color as my main cloth color. I am going to try and start painting next week. I am also waiting for bases and my magnet materials to show up. Here's the plan: Assemble a unit, paint the unit, paint the bases, put models on bases. It's going to be a different process than what I'm used to; however, I am using custom bases for the entire army and the bases will need to be painted seperately. I just hope it turns out ok.
  19. Thank you, NtK. Like I stated above, this was the first time I actually tried to do a batrep. I ended up doing 3! It was a lot of fun. I need a little more notes and better quality pics for the next one. I think I have found my new found love with warhammer. Yes, I was casting, on average, 5 spells during my magic phase. It was off the charts. Just like every other level 4 with dark magic, he gets +5 to cast. Dark magic has low casting values. The kicker though was his special ability. In every magic phase, yours and your opponents, he gets to add a free D6 to his first failed casting attempt and dispel attempt. I also had him drop 1 spell for power of darkness every game. I was rolling a 3, on average, for the additional power dice. I was only using miasma for a single characteristic stat with my level 2 and that only needs a 5 as well. I was 2 dice spamming most spells. Yes, the Cauldron is 100% off. I was just testing it out. I originally made it as a unit filler for my spearmen. I am working on ideas on how to change it. I may just have to say, "f it" and purchase the new one. I just don't want to assemble it.
  20. @Hero- I was't tracking MR2 on top of the 4+ ward. I get it now. @Munkie- It's not the dark riders, it's everything else. I've hit the Slann bunker many times with units of 10 or less and wiped them to not be steadfast. Heck, even when I played Skaven, my assassins would chew them in pretty much 1 round of combat. Oh, and a unit of 10 dark riders could beat the Slann through combat res with a charge. They start with +3CR(charge+rank+banner). If the slann wiffs, he loses by 3. The point I am trying to make here is that the ethereal isn't an issue. The frog doesn't do anything other than cast spells, period. He has a single roll. Even if he's in a unit, no one really cares, you just need to crush the unit he's in. I don't think him being ethereal offers him any more protection than placing him in a unit. One last thing. Munkie, I will accept a 2.5k challenge. I will put my worthless fast cav up against your shooting.
  21. Any army with a cheap magic missile kills him, if he's on his own. Or, you charge the unit he's in, crush them, break him, run him down. Your ancient stegadons scare me the most in your list.
  22. Well, I guess I'm not meeting the challenge then. The anvil stays. It may have war machine as a unit type but I don't count it as such for his challenge.
  23. I laugh at ethereal slanns. They aren't that hard to deal with.
  24. If I do go with list 2, I will hope to get paired against other combat oriented armies. That list is no different from many WoC lists out there. Get into combat and smash face. The difference is that there are 3 unbreakable units. However, I was just showing that a Slayer list could probably be viable.
