  1. BORDER PRINCES BASH! - 7s LEAGUE Rules for the Ordo Fanaticus Blood Bowl Second Season 7s League SCHEDULE Season Dates: June 15 to July 13; Playoffs July 20 The league has an Open Schedule. Coaches can play as many games as they can fit into season. Coaches can play the same opponent multiple times, but note that the League Points (LPs) earned against each opponent is capped (see League Rankings). LEAGUE RANKINGS Team rankings are determined by the total number of League Points (LP) earned. LPs are earned for Match Results, Bonuses, and Special Events. Match Results LPs from Match Results are capped at a maximum of 11 LPs from matches against a single coach. For example, if Coach Alpha has 1 win and 2 draws against Coach Beta, Coach Alpha has 11 LPs and cannot earn any more LPs from Match Results. -Win: 5 LPs -Draw: 3 LP -Loss: 1 LP Bonuses LPs from Bonuses are NOT capped and can be earned for any match. For example, despite Coach Alpha having 2 wins and 1 draw against Coach Beta, they could play again and Coach Alpha would earn LPs from Touchdowns and Casualties. -Each touchdown scored by your players: 1 LP -Each casualty (that earns SPP) cause by your players: 1 LP Special Events These are league-wide occasions determined by the Commissioner and will be advertised in advance. They could be part of a League Night Theme. WINNING THE LEAGUE Following the final league night, a number of teams will be eligible for the playoffs determined by their rankings and the total number of teams in the league. -7 or fewer teams: the top two (2) teams will have a 1-game playoff for the championship -8 or more teams: the top four (4) teams will have a 2-game playoff for the championship LEAGUE NIGHTS There are three (3) official League Nights hosted at WOW. -June 15 -June 29 -July 13 -League Night for Playoffs: August 3 Coaches may play as many games as they can fit into the duration of each League Night (approximately 5:00-9:00 PM, subject to the GN Czar’s decision). LEAGUE NIGHT BONUS SKILLS DRAFT At the conclusion of each League Night, each team will be eligible for the Bonus Skill Draft. The Commissioner will generate a draft pool with a number of Skills equal to the number of teams in the league, and each coach may draft one (1) of these Skills and assign it to any player on their roster. This is an exception to the normal 7s rules of random skill assignments. The draft order is determined by the number of LPs earned during League Night, with the highest number being first. Ties between teams will be broken by: Total League Points, Wins, Draws, Losses, die roll (by Commissioner). Note that coaches not playing on League Night will still get a draft selection, but they will all have a League Night score of zero points, broken by the tie breakers listed above. (If not all coaches attend League Night, the draft will be conducted/concluded online through the Ordo Fanaticus Forum) LEAGUE NIGHT THEMES Each league night will feature a theme that adds special circumstances to the matches played during the league night (and only those matches). Coaches are still free to play as many matches as they can during league night and use the theme for all of them. These are EXAMPLES of possible themes. No theme is guaranteed to be used, nor in any particular order. -Opening Night - The biggest night for fans to attend, filled with excitement for the season and hope for playoffs! Each team gets +2 Dedicated Fans for each game played during Opening Night. Additionally, if the coach brings a painted Cheerleader model, the team gets an additional +1 Dedicated Fans (for a total of +3) and a Cheerleader inducement to use for each game! -Mascot Night - The stitching is fresh and the outfits are zany, ready for their debut in front of the crowd. Each team gets a free Mascot Inducement (DZ page 39) for each game. Additionally, if the coach brings a painted Mascot model, the team gets two (2) Mascots for each game! -All You Can Eat Night - The grills are fired up and laden with patties of ground… something, and nothing attracts wizards like a buffet! Each team gets a free Wizard inducement for each game. This may be a standard Wizard or any of the special Wizards that are available based on the team’s Regional Special Rules (DZ page 22). Additionally, if the coach brings a painted Apothecary model, the team gets a free Apothecary to use for each game! -Pro Scout Night - The Big Leagues sent their scouts to assess the young talent, so all players are playing their very best. Any player can use the Pro (3+) skill during the games, but if they do, they count as having an additional skill for the purpose of The Draft (DZ page 96) at the end of the game. Note that the players never actually have Pro and do not retain it after league night. -Free Beer Night - The kegs are flowing and the players don’t mind partaking just because they have a match to play! Each team MUST use the Heady Brew inducement (DZ page 39) at the start of each drive. Note that the requirement for a player to have the Stunty trait is waived for this theme. Each team also gets a free Bloodweiser Keg inducement (BB page 90). Additionally, if the coach brings a painted Bloodweiser Keg model, the team gets two (2) Bloodweiser Kegs to use for each game!
  2. @Norrad @Maxwell Christian @Amado @Brick Bungalow @Spielmannsfluch @kb10r @scotthartman @savion47 @Sgt. Rock @Burk @Weav I'm posting this reply to send you all a notification that I'm about to post the proposed rules for the upcoming 7s league. This post should be considered an RFC (Request For Comments) to gather your feedback and questions. Once collected and collated, I will start a new thread with the final rules. In particular, I am looking for feedback on the dates. With summer approaching, and the quarantine ending, I imagine many people going on trips. Please let me know if you can attend the League Nights as they are key components of enjoying this season, even though coaches can play anytime and anywhere.
  3. It looks like she murdered someone for a tape measure.
  4. +1 Totally looks like you could hack the legs off, make new ones, and reattach the boots. We've all seen you rock the greenstuff on tougher jobs!
  5. Getting an MVP on a scrub player and being able to immediately roll for a random skill is fun reward for the completely random MVP - but that's because my scrubs are Goblins and Snotlings who I can, and usually do, immediately cut if they get a crappy roll. However, I just got Prehensile Tail on a Goblin and I'm looking forward to the using that!
  6. Something strange going on with Kickstarter links being embedded. I'll try this edit: LINK to cool Kickstarter
  7. One Chart to Rule Them All Contrast paints are a revolution in the hobby world, and like any technology pioneer, they pave the way for other companies to make similar products. One of the first to market is the Instant Colors range from Scale75, who ran a Kickstarter campaign in 2020 to fund the production. Being a huge fan of Contrast, I jumped into this Kickstarter as soon as I could. After a long year of waiting, they finally arrived! Of course I was eager to start painting models with them, but I had the immediate dilemma of figuring out how these colors integrated with the Contrast range. I obviously wanted more colors and more selection, but I needed to know which ones were similar to the Contrast colors and which were all new options. Combine that with a whole new naming system for this range, and the challenge of knowing what the final result of a color will be compared to its "bottle color," and the answer was obvious: a paint chart! (note: this was only obvious because some genius made a Contrast paint chart when they came out). One challenge with putting together a paint chart, especially with ranges from more than one company, was figuring out how each exotically-named paint actually looks when it's dry. Since "grey" sometimes turns out blue or purple or green, not to mention a shade of light black, I determined it would be far more useful to group the final results by their visual appearance and disregard the names entirely. So I present to you the official Contrast and Chill "One Chart to Rule Them All" combining these ranges and being flexible to add future colors and companies. My hope is these color groupings look correct to you as well, so if you have suggestions for changes, please post them! There are three versions embedded below. 1) the colors, 2) the colors with labels, and since that might be hard to read for some people, 3) a black & white version with the labels. Note that these source images are huge for good visual reference if you zoom in on them. Legend: 32mm bases are Citadel Contrast 25mm bases are Scale75 Instant Colors All bases primed with Citadel Grey Seer
  8. That Necromunda terrain is amazing! Looking forward to seeing the fantasy terrain. @RobynMM got any action shots of a game on it? Also, any plans to show it off at the Ordo clubhouse...? 🙂 (I know, after the pandemic and all that).
  9. Here's a small (snotling-sized) update to this band of merry little blighters. Thanks to @splinx I was able to add a couple of the original Blood Bowl Snotlings from 2nd edition. Back when Space Marines had beaks and small really meant small. As with the other runts, they are, in fact, so small that there's plenty of room on the bases to add decoration and I mixed them up with some modern accoutrements, like toadstools and a fungi-snail... or maybe it's an es-snot-go? Happy New Year!
  10. A Very Special Holiday Episode Why is it so special? Well, for one, it's the holidays and that makes everything special. For two, this episode is all about other people's Contrast tutorials. In other words, I didn't have to paint anything to make this content, thus I am celebrating the holidays by not working. Think about it. #1 Paint ANYTHING to this standard in less than an hour! by Trovarian Miniatures Why is this #1? Because in a word, this tutorial is pure awesome. I have a scientific checklist to prove it: Chris, the host, doesn't spend the first minute-and-a-half blathering about who he is, why he made this, and please subscribe - he just gets into it; he fast-forwards through the slow parts of painting; he covers everything: assembling & cleanup, priming, basing, basecoats, drybrushing, Contrasts as washes, metallics, wet blending, basing - including Technical paints and grass tufts; and he does all of this with a friendly, light tone that is welcoming and encouraging for both new painters and crusty vets looking for new techniques. And the coup de grace of this masterpiece? It's about Blood Bowl models! This is The Greatest Miniature Painting Tutorial Ever (TM). #2 JuanHidalgo Miniatures - Contrast Catalog Juan is a delight to watch. He's funny with his delivery, pragmatic with his tips, and an extremely skilled painter. He's done an entire series on using Contrast for all the founding Space Marine Chapters, which gives you a guide for just about every color you want to tackle for your own miniatures. He adds new videos all the time and has expanded far beyond plain old Space Marines into virtually all corners of the Warhammer hobby. The catalog: https://www.youtube.com/c/JuanHidalgoMiniatures An example: #3 Non metallic metals with contrast paints - Darren Latham We end the list at the opposite end of the scale from Trovarian. Darren Latham is a well-known professional painter who has both pioneered and perfected some of the most advanced techniques in miniature painting. On the other hand, his personal blog and tutorials (I use that word lightly) are abysmal compared to the guys above. But the great masters in history were rarely great teachers. Instead, you learn by observing their results and attempting to emulate them (and beating your head against the wall over and over and over). Darren has published his NMM technique with both normal Citadel paints and Contrast and his results with Contrast are definitely worth checking out and trying. I am currently working on a model to practice this technique and I can attest to the head-beating-wall results so far. Consume this with caution! http://razzaminipainting.blogspot.com/2019/06/non-metallic-metals-with-contrast-paints.html?m=1 Happy Holidays! Thanks for reading this Very Special Holiday Episode. I hope you all have a nice break from work, get some quality family time, maybe a killer hobby gift from Santa, and of course, get some painting sexytime in to Contrast and Chill!
  11. Da Yellow Bitz - Snotlings! To celebrate the release of Blood Bowl Season 2, I wanted to build one of the new teams created as part of the new edition. And what could be better than the looney hijinks of Snotlings? Not only would this be a fun project for using Contrast paints, it also (conveniently) checks the box as a good excuse for exhuming more of those ancient models from my bitz box and finally slapping some paint on them. As it turns out, I've been a greenskin fan - and specifically a Snotling fan - long enough to have a substantial pile of old models from the various generations of Citadel. When I got all the old stuff together with the new team box, this is what it looked like. Those of you with sharp eyes will see a bunch of squiggly beasts mixed in there. These were from the Rogue Trader days when squigs first appeared in the 40K Ork lore. They were helper creatures that served as pets, tools, raw materials (like oil), weapons (face-biters), and even hair (since Orks didn't grow hair naturally). And, of course, food when necessary. With so many old models, and so many new models in the new kit, it was fortunate that the BB roster both allows and encourages far more than the standard 16-man roster. I decided to do a 50-50 split of old and new models, and then mix in extras like the squiggly beasts across all of the models as base decorations. Once I had put them all together, I had a fun mix of Rogue Trader runts, Fantasy Battle snots, Underworlds minions, and even some genuine Blood Bowl Snotlings. One of the coolest new additions to the team is the Pump Wagon. A zany contraption of mass carnage on the pitch, it's also a very cool new model. However, you get two on your roster and two in the kit, but I didn't want two identical models on the team. Time to get converting! With all the various bitz scattered across my hobby desk, I went to town choppin' and slicin' and gluin' it all back together in a new shape. And here it is, my alt Pump Wagon build, featuring a turbo-cooled, halfing-fed, twin-squig motor! With the models sorted out, it was time to spray. I went with a mix of Wraithbone and Grey Seer. To be honest, I don't entirely remember why. It might have simply been pragmatic because each of the spray cans was nearly empty and I didn't want to run out in the middle of spraying. And now to the money shot: painting with Contrast. I knew from the start that I wanted to do every part of this project with Contrast paints, and I also knew I wanted the team colors to be bright and vibrant, just like the energy of the Snotlings. I also figured that Snotlings, being short of stature and even shorter of brain, would recognize that opposing teams made their players wear the same colors, but wouldn't truly understand the concept of uniforms. And just like that, Da Yellow Bitz were born. Not just a clever color scheme, but a fitting team name for this mob of riotous rookies. The players are required to dip their hands, feet, and nose (Da Bitz) into yellow fungus paint (Iyanden Yellow) prior to the match. Some of them were a little too enthusiastic and dipped whole arms or legs in. Besides the paint "uniforms," they scrounged together bits of blue (Talassar) and orange (Gryph-Hound) clothing. With all these bright colors, I went with a darker green (Militarum) for their skin. A few touches of red (Blood Angels) for some variety in the squiggly beasts and they were all set! Here we go with the finished photos! The first group of Snotlings, these are all the new designs from the new kit, mixed with old squiggly beasts. The second group of Snotlings, these are classic models from Fantasy Battle and Rogue Trader. Fun-Hoppas. On the left is the standard model, on the right is one converted from the Snotling in the Goblin team kit and the spiky cave ball from the Underworlds Goblin Fanatic. I used green stuff to make some eyeballs and a mouth, then stuck a Skaven tail in as a prehensile tongue. The skin is Gryph-Charger Grey (as you know, one of my favs), the eyes are Aethermatic Blue, and the pink parts are Magos Purple. Fungas Flingas, on the right is the standard model, on the left is a conversion from a 40K ammo runt and a bunch of fungus! Stilty Runnas, on the left is the standard, on the right is a conversion from an old squiggly beast and a classic WFB Snotling mounted on top. Pump Wagons, standard on the left and squig-powered on the right! Trained Trolls. Neither of these are standard Blood Bowl models. On the left is my converted Underworld Troll borrowed from that team, and on the right is a new conversion from the Warhammer Underworlds Mollog kit. (note: neither of these were painted with Contrast - sorry, it's my cheatski on this project!) The Mollog troll has just put a stop to the deep route of a Human Catcher, and in the process of giving him a hug, squeezed a bit too hard and popped his head off - oopsy! The Coaching Staff. Another Underworlds model for the coach (center), a converted squig hopper from various leftover bitz (left), and on the right, a very old character Snotling from a legacy Warhammer Quest expansion (Lair of the Orc Lord, right?). Team Photo! Hope you enjoyed this episode of Contrast and Chill. If you haven't played Blood Bowl yet, it's the best game in the ooniverse! The new edition is a great time to join in the fun, and Snotlings are like doubling-down on the fun-ness!
  12. The Black Gobbo The Black Gobbo is a Star Player in Blood Bowl. A devious fellow, he sneaks a variety of secret weapons onto the pitch to give opposing players a bad day. Bombs, knives, and in Season 2, a special ability to encourage additional poor sportsmanship (aka, fouls) from teammates. This guy is the pinnacle of Contrast and Chill (at least so far): short time, great results. Not counting prep time, as in getting the model cleaned up and primed, it took 47 minutes to paint him from start to finish. Granted, he's almost all black given his hooded robe and shoes, but hey, he is The Black Gobbo. Since the black and grey drybrush took only minutes, I splurged on some OSL (Object Source Lighting) from the burning fuse of his bomb. As usual, my photos aren't great, but it looks pretty darn good in person. OSL works well on dark colors, and his pose helps the black gloves and hood provide enough distance and interesting folds to make the various reds, oranges, and yellows each stand out. I had enough time (haha) to also add a bit of green tint to his dagger, freshly poisoned for quickly dispatching victims with the slightest prick so as not to catch the wary eyes of the referees! Restating the obvious, I used a bunch of drybrushing on this model. The Contrast bitz were Black Templar, Ork Flesh, and Flesh Tearers Red, plus the steel (and metals are honorary Contrast colors) with a Basilicanum Grey wash. I drybrushed Mechanicus Standard Grey and Dawnstone for highlights on the black. For the fuse flames, I used Iyanden Yellow, Gryph-Hound Orange, and Blood Angels Red, then drybrushed Layer paints Mephiston Red, Troll Slayer Orange, and Flash Gitz Yellow for the OSL. Easy as pie! So, can you beat that time?
  13. Whoa, that is serious hardware! Very cool. I have not had issues waiting for drying, though I also tend to paint several minis at once so by the time I finish the last one, the first one is dry. When doing a single mini, I also usually have something else cooking, like a conversion I'm working on. So I trade greenstuff drying time with Contrast drying time... Ha, typing this out made me realize that's what I've been doing to kill the time. Subconscious efficiency! 😆
  14. @splinx are you going to buy the ones from @Ish? If not, I'll go for them. 🙂
  15. Well, I admit the model I'll be showing off is (spoiler alert) mostly black cloak, which made it exceptionally fast. Having said that, practice has increased my speed significantly.
  16. Hmm, now that's an interesting idea. I had not considered a real podcast of sorts. "Hobbycast" was my *cough* clever *cough* play on a regular series of posts on a forum - so 90s, bro! If it were a podcast, what would you like to see/hear? Like a timelapse of painting a model? That might actually be feasible because Contrast makes it so fast. My next episode features a model done in less than an hour! Anyway, thanks for the feedback and for reading!
  17. Small update to post some better pics (I hope). As part of Contrast and Chill, I've been trying to figure out how to get good photos of miniatures using an iPhone and... haven't cracked the puzzle yet. Anyway, that will be an ongoing experiment along with the painting!
  18. A while back I bought the Feline Ferocity Commander deck and added several additional cat-themed cards, but ended up never playing with them. Would make a great Xmas treat for someone who actually plays the game. Looking to trade for unpainted plastic GW stuff: Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Warcry, Terrain kits, etc. Feline Ferocity deck - basically new, unplayed and I have the original box (Amazon lists this for $180) Additional Cards - also basically new and unplayed (about $150 worth) Ajani, Mentor of Heroes 1 Ajani Steadfast 1 Ajani Goldmane 1 Ajanim Caller of the Pride 1 Oath of Ajani 2 Prowling Serpopard 4 Felidar Sovereign 1 Scrounging Bandar 1 Aethorstorm Leopard 1 Feral Prowler 1 Sacred Cat 1 Rhona's Monument 1 Desert of the Indomitable 1 Brimaz, King of Oreskos 1 Regal Caracal 2 Bow of Nylea 1 Pride Sovereign 4 Jazal Goldmane 1 Sanctuary Cat 2 Intangible Virtue 1 And I have a bunch of other Magic cards I'll include that I picked up along the way. There's some Rares and foils in there, too.
  19. The Pied Piper It's been a while since my last episode, but the painting and the chilling has been prolific. In this episode I've got a selection of Skaven done up for Blood Bowl. With the new Season 2 edition being released in a couple weeks, I needed to make updates for the revised rosters and finish up some Star Players that will be more commonly used in the new rules. First up are some Underworld Snotlings. These are a brand new player type in Season 2 and not only is there an entire new team of Snotlings, but Underworld get to have up to 6 of them. I've already played a test game with them and they're awesome because they're dirt cheap and when they get smashed into the dirt, it's no big deal. They can be fielded in addition to the 11 players already on the pitch, causing all sorts of entanglements-under-foot for your opponent, just the way Snotlings should be! Since they're Snotlings on a mixed team with Skaven, I wanted the models to be mixed up, too. The first three are new crew models from the new Snotling Pump Wagon riding Giant Rats, and then a "normal" Snotling and two "normal" Giant Rats. Next up are a couple of genuine Skaven. On the left is Glart Smashrip, Jr., a great star player who adds some much-needed brutal strength to rat lineups. He has a penchant for eating everything (and everyone), which his prodigious model reflects. Next to him is a converted Gutter Runner. Originally I was going to use this model as Skitter Stab-Stab, another fantastic star player for Skaven, but I have already replaced this model with another one I liked better. Contrast being Contrast, I decided to paint this model up anyway because doing it alongside Glart only added a handful of extra minutes to the project. Contrast makes extras like this so easy! The rust on Glart's armour is, of course, not Contrast, but also very easy to do. Dabbing some Rust Texture paint of your choice, followed by stippling bright orange makes this effect about as easy as Contrast and just as visually impressive. I'll have another whole episode devoted to this effect as part of a Necromunda/Kill Team project I have going on now. The last model for this episode is the Skaven Doomwheel. I got this in a trade sometime ago and never had a use for it since it's far too large for the Blood Bowl pitch... or is it? Challenge Accepted! By trimming off some of the extra-pokey doodads (Skaven models are full of those), I managed to condense the overall footprint to just the wheel and the pumper guy on the back. By tilting the entire model forward, it raised the pumper platform high enough to be taller than most other models, so now the Doomwheel not only fit onto a 32mm base (yes, it really is!), but also made it feasible to fit onto the pitch while surrounded by other models. Even with all that cleverness, the model does suffer from the same problem as other large Blood Bowl models in that being knocked over and laying prone would create an epic clusterjam on the pitch. However, that problem is solved by using it as Kreek Rustgouger, a star player wielding a Ball & Chain. The B&C is a devastating secret weapon that causes just as much harm to the bearer when he gets knocked over and automatically removes him from the pitch. I love it when a plan comes together! There's a lot of metal on this model, but we count those as honorary Contrast colors since they're just as quick to use, especially when shaded with Basilicanum Grey. There's also a lot of wood, which I used all of the darker Contrast browns for variation. That was followed by a drybrush with Ushabti Bone, and that's all it takes for really gorgeous wood effects. The glowy parts, something Skaven also have a lot of, are all Warp Lightning and then some light drybrushes of Warpstone Glow and Moot Green (both Layer paints). For the record, we also count drybrush colors as Contrast because they're quick and effective! I kept the banner plain red as I haven't had any inspiration for what to paint on it yet. Maybe after a few games something will appear, as is wont to do in Blood Bowl. That's it for this episode, thanks for reading! Next time will be some more Blood Bowl (and even more after that) as we rush headlong into the new edition and new season.
  20. I've got a bunch I can trade away. They are from the 40K grots collection, and I've also got some of the squiggly beasts they hung out with (on the left side of the photo). These are the original ammo runts, grot orderlies, etc. For trade, I'd be really keen to figure out a 3-way trade with Ish as there are 2 snots in his photo I am very interested in for Blood Bowl (screencap below). If you guys are open to figuring something out, we can go to PMs and make this happen!
