  1. They've started doing that again, at least occasionally. The three Formations they had on sale before Christmas were all decent bargains if you wanted everything, too.
  2. Draigo unlocks Paladins (the super-Terminators) as Troops. Crowe is for the Purifiers.
  3. I'll be interested to see how the SkySlashers work out. It's exactly the same cost for as many wounds worth of Gargoyles, which would make a better screen in some ways, but wouldn't soak high-Strength firepower like you're hoping. In the same vein, I've seen a lot of people talking theory about using Stealers like that, but haven't seen any BatReps with them. Curious to see how that actually works out. I'm kind of hesitant on having just one FMC, too. In my experience, that pretty much makes him a target. Similarly with Swarmy walking around with no Guard. Hive Guard and Biovores are excellent. Both kinds of 'Thrope are solid here. I like the plan with the Gaunts and Tärv, but the Miasma Cannon might be worth considering for the Tärv. Provides two pretty nasty Templates when Outflanking, and gives you a longer-ranged option if you end up on the wrong side against a Refused Flank.
  4. It does still matter, though- if you bring a Synapse Creature in from reserve before seeing what needs to roll for IB, it could make a very big difference. Oh, yeah, that part works. The problem came from when he used that error to deduce that there must be a "Start of Turn" sub-phase before a "Start of Movement Phase" sub-phase. Part of the reason the article bugged me is that he does have a lot of really good stuff in there, but there are some errors right up front that I saw causing at least a few commenters to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
  5. Nope, the Maw Claw kicks in as soon as he kills any Model with it. If it were just Challenges, it would suck, but as it stands, it's cheap enough and probably useful often enough that I think it's worth a try. It also kicks in instantly, so if he kills something at I5, the Fexen will benefit by the time their I2 step rolls around. I'd probably go with more Gaunts of some sort rather than Warriors, since you're pretty solid on Synapse, and Warriors are borderline enough that you pretty much need to be squeezing every drop of value out of them to make them worthwhile. Maybe Gargoyles, they're one of the best Screening Units in the Game, and the potential for Blind can make them pretty threatening.
  6. Part of the problem is that he takes the statement that IB doesn't apply on the Turn that a Unit arrives from Reserves, and then decides that this must be because of timing reasons, rather than realizing that it's simply because the Rule says it doesn't regardless of what order things are resolved in. @Mr. Bigglesworth: The extra cost for the Miasma Cannon is because of the duality with the Template Mode, for when you get up close or need Overwatch. It's actually one of the Bio-Artefacts that I think is reasonably costed.
  7. I've relied on IG Command Squads to be my Objective Holders. Just need to be aggressive enough with the rest of it to keep them busy. That said, the first thing I'd add to scale this up would probably be 10 more Gaunts and a Tärv. Nah, the Hive Guard head out from the Redoubt to Charge. They should be just behind the Gargoyles on the way into the fray. I got them tangled up in some Combats last week and was really impressed, even without the upgrades. Also, I find they got more of a side-grade than a straight-up nerf, because a lot of times they're firing at stuff in Area Terrain or touching Cover, where it would have gotten a Save before. Pretty much makes the BS drop a wash. I am still a fan of Gargoyles. They definitely got nerfed, but they're still fast as heck, and between the Adrenal Glands and even 6+ Poison, it's incredibly rare that there won't be something up there that they're a threat to. They're also awesome to spread out and go for a big Multi-Charge. I managed to force Blind Tests on 5 Units at once in that same game :)
  8. My take on abusing the Firestorm Redoubt. This is at 1500, where it's kind of maybe barely viable, but that's what I mostly play these days. I suspect I could make it a lot more solid at 1850 or so. Tyranid Prime, Norn Crown, Rending Claws, DeathSpitter Venomthrope Firestorm Redoubt, Magos Machine Spirit, Comms Relay 2x3 Hive Guard, Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands 2x10Termagants 15 Gargoyles, Adrenal Glands 14 Gargoyles, Adrenal Glands 2x DakkaFex Biovore Termagants go in Reserves, and the Comms Relay tries to keep them there. Redoubt gets placed at a sharp angle, or even completely perpendicular to the centerline, as far forward as possible. Hive Guard all Deploy within 8" of the nearest Access Point, with the Prime Joined to the 'Thrope nearby. First Turn, the Hive Guard Embark in the Redoubt, one Brood inside, one on the roof, while the Prime, Venomthrope, and Biovore try to stay hidden behind it. Fexen and Gargoyles just rush forward as fast as possible. Turn 2, the Hive Guard Disembark from the other end of the Redoubt, now possibly as much as 24" from their starting point without having had to Run. Prime and 'Thrope hop inside to spread their auras, and everything else keeps rushing. I'm going to try to take advantage of the Hive Guard's reasonably impressive combat stats (2 S5 WS4 Attacks each, before the bonuses for Adrenals and Poison) to use them as a fairly rounded, "tactical" Unit, kind of like how I wish Tyranid Warriors could work. It's a total gimmick, abusing the Building Rules about as far as I can see possible. If my opponent drops the Redoubt quickly, or Infiltrates up while going first and moves into it before I can, the whole thing pretty much falls apart, but if it doesn't, I think I can put some pressure on pretty quickly. Also potentially hilarious to funnel the Gaunts through the Redoubt in The Relic, because that will let me get them all spread out past the one who actually grabs it, and they'll all have 3+ Cover, so I've got decent odds of having that one left to jump pack in the building with it on Turn 3.
  9. Looks fairly solid based on what I've seen so far. Might consider swapping Regen out for the Miasma Cannon on the Tärv, just to give yourself a little more reach out and touch someone.
  10. Chocolate is made from cocoa beans. Those come from plants. Therefore chocolate is a salad ;) Seriously, tho, I was a baker for years. Your average slice of fruit pie is way better for you than the same amount of croissant or danish, or even a lot of scones. You really don't want to know how much butter goes into a lot of those things.
  11. That means the end of the following Player Turn, since it doesn't specify Game Turn. Because you cast Blessings during your own Turn, the end of the following Turn would be the end of your Opponent's Turn.
  12. Wouldn't Nickels work better? They cost half as much and weigh quite a bit more.
  13. Do note that taking the Miasma Cannon on a Trygon Prime will cost him an Attack, because it replaces a pair of ScyTals. Toxin Sacs on the Fexen, to me, would be a place to trim if it'll get the Points to take an entire extra Unit, ideally one that could tag-team with them and help bail them out of Tarpits. Edit: Also consider the Maw Claw on the Tyranid Prime with the Fexen. Once he kills something with it, he gains Preferred Enemy, which spreads to his Unit, allowing them to re-roll 1s to Hit and Wound.
  14. Crones are probably better than you think if you just flipped through. Their Tentaclid "Missiles" have Haywire, and are Twin-Linked against Flyers and FMCs. I think if I were going to go for a real Assault-based Nid Army, tho, I'd try to just deal with Flyers by flooding the board and denying them good landing spots. When you're running 200+ Models, it's doable.
  15. I know some people have had good results with movement trays. I tried them before, but found they were more trouble than they were worth, especially for poorly balanced Models like Hormagaunts and Gargoyles. Assaults also cause problems, because exact positioning is so important there.
  16. I'm getting up there in numbers of Gargoyles, and I have quite a lot of Hormagaunts, so at some point I'm going to have to see how well I can do just flinging 120 Models or so across the board as fast as possible. They can get a ton of bodies up in people's faces as fast as anything except Khorne Dogs, between Gargoyles, Infiltrating Stealers, and Hormies, and they're really cheap. Might not work in Tournaments because of time limits, but I'll give it a try in an untimed game at some point.
  17. I've never used one, but I've gone up against one a number of times, and I have to say it's really hit and miss. Some Armies really have trouble dealing with one, and against those, it can be an amazing Board Control tool, but other Armies have massed Poison or good access to Instant Death or just good fast tarpits or whatever, and can handle one easily.
  18. On a Mac, it's Option-u, and then the vowel you want under the umlaut. No idea how to do it on a Windows machine. The only times I had to do it on a Windows computer, I was in Germany, and the keyboards there have it as a simpler option, because it's a regular thing there.
  19. Regardless of how they compare outside the Dex, they're the obvious stars within the DA Dex. Everyone called that when it first came out, and it's just as true now. Other Armies do Bikes better than DA, but DA still do Bikes better than they do anything else, as an Army in and of themselves.
  20. It goes back to when the 5th Ed Dex first leaked. One of the Mods over on The Tyranid Hive got annoyed at everyone going nuts about them, and set up the swear filter so it would change "tervigon" to "duck". So we had to come up with creative misspellings to not be talking about ducks. The letters 'e' and 'ä' are pronounced the same in German, so I went that way. Eventually, one of the other Mods changed the swear filter back, but by that time, I was spelling it that way out of habit.
  21. I agree with the general thrust of Hobbitron's critique: You don't need to duplicate specific Units, but in any given "target category", you need to have at least a couple of things. If you're not putting at least three or so things in the air, for instance, I don't think I'd bother at all, just try to flood the board and deal with flyers via Board Control. I also second Fluger's question about the Toxin Sacs. Stripping off those and the Wings from the Tyrant gets you quite a lot of Points to play with. Consider Hive Commander to Outflank one of those Hormagaunt Broods. Use the Comms Relay to hold them off the board as long as possible, so they hopefully come in to grab an Objective after you've managed to get some Synapse up front and disrupt your Opponent's backfield a bit. Also maybe think about the Miasma Cannon on the Tärv. Lets her still contribute while hanging back a bit if you need to control your own backfield.
  22. I can't remember if I posted it here, but I've been thinking about using a Firestorm Redoubt for a similar purpose. Possibly Joining a Tyranid Prime with the Norn Crown to the Venomthrope to get a good Synapse Bubble off that, too.
  23. Sounds like the BaneSword would pair well with some Demolishers for close-in defense.
