  1. This is fantastic! Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think I will keep experience to Warlords and make the bonuses minimal. We'll be using the Planetary Empires rules so I already have the "Map Game" set.
  2. Hey Ordo, I'm getting 3 new people into 40k and have decided to do an escalating Planetary Empires campaign. We're starting at 500 points and adding 250 points weekly, ending on week 6 or 7 with an Apocalypse game. There will be 4-6 players total - I'm keeping this intentionally small. Sorry but there's no open slots for players. I just want my friends to paint up their armies and get experience with the game ;) What I need help with is some sort of experience system. I know the 5th ed book has campaign rules where units and characters can gain USRs and stat bonuses if they survive a game. I want something like this but want to avoid excessive bookkeeping (this isn't Mordheim) and snowball wins - where a player keeps winning because of his buffs and keeps getting more buffs because he's winning. Here are a few of my ideas: -Players may pick one unit that survived the battle and grant them one USR for the duration of the campaign. This will be lost if the unit dies. I'm worried about stuff like Fleshbane and Rending on cheap units with lots of low strength attacks - maybe offer 6 to choose from? Relentless, Stubborn, Feel no Pain (5+), etc. -As above but the surviving unit gets an additional stat point instead (WS, BS, T, etc). Alternatively I could only allow Warlords to get experience: -Players can capture tiles that grant a roll for a random artifact from their Codex, to be used only by their Warlord -Warlord can pick his warlord trait for the first game but must use it for the duration of the campaign -Warlords can get USRs that they pass to their unit Any suggestions or ideas are welcome!
  3. I built my list with Eldar in mind, so I understand why he was worried about it. He played very well and earned his victory. I'd love to have a rematch though, lol.
  4. At the very tournament that this thread is about the Best Sportsmanship prize was not introduced as such. It was one of the first prizes to be announced and was a random drawing based on player votes.
  5. I think my favorite in-game moment was my Culexus Assassin killing WestRider's Chaos Lord in close combat. I rolled a single 6 to wound and WR admitted (paraphrased) "When I saw the Instant Death wound I knew I was going to fail that save" (he did). I wish I hadn't won that game due to the clock but it was still a great game nonetheless. It really was a great tournament. And I would argue that my list (Ultramarines Skyhammer) was about equal with Alex's Eldar. He had to play very well for that final victory, and admitted before the game that he was terrified of my army list.
  6. I would have liked to see some water bottles there. I looked but couldn't find any - maybe I missed them? Napkins and paper plates would have been a welcome addition. The pizza was good (for delivery pizza) but I'd rate the teriyaki from last year much higher. Overall the food was good though!
  7. Just finished my painting, I think it's time for bed! See you guys in the morning :P
  8. At least you're in the second bracket, right? So those of us in the first bracket won't face you? I'm not really sure how the pairings work with two brackets lol.
  9. Dang, some of those lists are scary! I wasn't expecting to see 3 Wraithknights lol. There appears to be an issue with Chancy's list. Looks like some units are missing.
  10. I'm always down for pizza as well. It's probably the easiest solution logistically, and I don't know anyone who doesn't like pizza. I'd prefer teriyaki though. I don't think gamers are very picky when it comes to food though haha.
  11. I don't like the rule and feel like multiple Librarians attached to the same unit should be able to cast the same power - However, Fluger's conclusion agrees with my own based on rules as written. The Screamer Star was already nerfed by ITC's 2+ re-rollable save ruling. This is just another nail in the coffin of a dead 6th ed power list.
  12. Tournaments. The only time I get any real painting done is the 2 weeks prior to a tournament.
  13. Same here, that's how I would have thought it worked even without the ITC FAQ to support it.
  14. Teriyaki sounds good to me. That was a hit last year.
  15. There's a painting prize? It isn't mentioned on the 40k Ambassadors website. I checked when planning my paint schedule. It mentions prizes for 1st - 5th and sportsmanship but nothing about paint... Looks like I've got some paint work to do this weekend :/
  16. Eh, there's no painting prize. 3 color minimum only takes a few minutes lol.
  17. I only have three models to go! ...But they're vehicles.
  18. You're welcome to borrow my Chaos Space Marines or Space Wolves if you want to play in the second bracket. I know it's unlikely but I figured I'd offer!
  19. Lord Hanaur: Will a FAQ be published prior to the army list due date? I'm specifically wondering if there will be any nerfs to Invisibility or 2+ re-rollable saves (a la ITC). I don't care either way, I just want to know what my army list should be able to handle.
  20. Grav-Cannons are very good. You just need to get them closer to the enemy than usual.
  21. The plastic Culexus seems to be steady at $25-30 on eBay. I'll count up what extra vehicles I have tonight and let you know what I can trade!
  22. I'd have to take a look, but I know for sure that I have a Chimera (basecoated) and Regimental Advisors (metal, primed black) for trade. Other than that I have Valhallan guardsmen and weapon teams but I'm a bit hesitant to let those go. I might have a spare Basilisk or Leman Russ.
