  1. Thanks Paxmiles! I'll have to show up next Monday then.
  2. I'm planning on showing up with some Warmachine for probably painting. Maybe assembly? Depends on what I bring. Gonna try and get some Warmachine and Hordes going on in these here parts.
  3. More details please? What time? Is it organized? Is it a League?
  4. Purajg that's awesome! I'll have to give them a second look. When I asked "Who is the PG? When was the last Steamroller? How about a League?" I got a lot of blank looks and the standard "we have a Warmachine/Hordes game night on the second Wednesday of every other month during a full moon" style response. LOL Do they have a fixed League night/time when they play, and who is running it? Thanks for the response! Oh, and hey! If you want to get some more games in, let me know. I'm down for some fun. I play just about everything but Skorne, Convergence, and Protectorate. Though I'm looking at starting a Protectotate army. It's long overdue. Right after my Cryx army I guess. Ugh. Too many factions! LOL
  5. Hello everyone! I just moved to the Vancouver area in late August for work/school, and wanted to introduce myself: Thomas "PG_Tamwulf". Yeah, the infamous Tamwulf. Some of you may have read my rantings at the PP Forums every once in a while, or seen my picture or read one of my articles in No Quarter (it's been a long time... I sort of got black listed. Long story). I've been playing Warmachine since, well, the Butcher was just revealed and the new hotness was Magnus the Traitor and his box set. I became a PG in 2005 (or maybe 6? Or 7? Eh, thereabouts). I'm also good friends with a lot of the PG staff (and ex-staff as well), so I have a pretty unique insight into the game and how it's played/developed. You could say I'm "tapped in". I've been stalking around the various game stores in the Portland/Vancouver area checking out the Warmachine/Hordes scene, and well, I'm a bit disappointed to say the least. Am I missing something here? Is there a Facebook page with all the local Steamroller or Leagues posted? Mark III just came out, and this is a FANTASTIC time to be playing the game. Has it died around here? I really wanted to get into the Crossroads of Courage league, but I've missed season 1. :( I'd love to see about getting enough people interested to maybe run a late, short Season 1 and get into Season 2! The Commander books will be debuting before we know it, and then there is the looming Errata being dropped in January. I'd love to discuss these topics! Over the next few weeks, I'm going to try and make contact with all the local PG's and maybe figure out a way to revive the Warmachine/Hordes scene around these parts (Rose City Warmachine? Not sure what the moniker is for these parts). If your a PG, please let me know! If a local store is running events, and I mean RUNNING events, not just "Warmachine/Hordes night is the third Monday of every other month when there is a full moon. Oh sure! We get lots of players!", please, let me know! Or point me to the place where they are at. I'm talking Steamrollers, Organized Play Leagues, etc. etc. As a side note, I love to run events. I'm not much of a player anymore, and if anything, I frown on the ultra hype competitiveness that some people enjoy. To each their own! I do, however, love the game, and embrace it- even if it's at arms length sometimes. I've got a lot of experience building and rebuilding play groups (thanks Air Force for moving me every 3 years for 23 years!), and I'd love to help out and make the Warmachine/Hordes community a living, thriving group in the Portland area!
  6. Thank you! Though there is considerable bias in what the author counts as "True" and "False". For example, Sad Panda saying yes, Deathwatch get access to Xeno wargear... Fluff wise, True. Game wise? False. But it's counted as True. /shrug Obviously rumors are just that: Rumors. Funny thing is, these rumors come from Lady Atia, who posted them at Bolter and Chainsword, which 4chan cross listed. And on the Dakka Dakka thread you posted: Atia - Total rumors: (53 TRUE) / (0 FALSE) / (1 PARTIALLY TRUE/VAGUE) - Updated 10/12/2016 So this means it's a reliable rumor, right?
  7. This has come up before, so I'm kinda curious: Who or what is a reliable source for you?
  8. Thinking Razorback with an Assault Cannon. What do ya'll think?
  9. Here is a rumor from 4chan- I can see some use for the Custodes in 30K, depending on weapon options. If their Halberds give them an initiative bonus like the old GK rules, they will be awesome. They also have an option for sword and shields. If it's just a power weapon and storm shield, well, I hope they are a cheap option. I bet those 5 guys will cost about 250 points+options (in 30K). These guys in 40K? I dunno. Depends on the weapons options. They look to be supped up Terminators and will probably fill a similar role. The Sisters of Silence are, well, underwhelming in 30K? Maybe against Thousand Sons who are rumored to have a Brotherhood of Psykers style rule, or maybe Word Bearers, but anyone else in 30K... I think I'd rather spend the points elsewhere. They look to be a very hard counter to Psyker armies which just are not all that common right now. After Prospero and the Thousand Sons book, we'll probably see more Psyker armies, and if you can take 3 Sisters for like, 120 points, I'll probably throw them in my list as insurance during a tournament. I can't seem them making it into my "casual game night" list. Now, in 40K? These girls will be awesome! The low S and T is a bit of a concern, but at least they have a 2+ armor save. Throw an Apothecary in with them, and that'll help a bit too. edit: Looks like all the Sisters are using Claymores, so maybe two handed, unwieldy, and +2S? Unwieldy would suck... I just hope both units have Frag/Krak grenades.
  10. Yeah, I really wanted to make it. I was working my airbrush like a Lady of the Night at a truck stop. The storm though made me hunker down and weather it out. Too many years (eight actually) living in Oklahoma (Tornadoes) and another five years in Alaska (Volcano's, Earthquakes, Windstorms, Blizzards, etc), plus being a "pilot" have given me a healthy fear and respect of Mother Nature. So when NOAA starts spouting weather advisories/watches/warnings, I pay attention. Anyways, sounds like everyone had a great time! I really kinda wish Guardian Games had postponed the event.
  11. After closely examining the sprue pics, the MK III back packs are two parts. Bleh. I love the Phobus Pattern Bolters! All the Sisters of Silence appear to be right handed. I really wanted to make one of them dual wielding two of those gigantic swords... LOL Probably still will, it'll just take some more converting. Thanks for the sprue pics Pretre! I'll be for sure buying one set, and probably two just because I love the MK III Iron Armor so much. The Custodians and SiS will just be a bonus!
  12. While you select your Kill Team from squads of Troops, Elites, or Fast Attack, the "Every Man For Himself" rule makes all MODELS a separate unit. The Apothecary himself would have FnP. Unfortunitly, he can't "join" another unit. There is no rule preventing an Independent Character from being in a Kill Team. There is a rule preventing Independent Characters from joining another unit.
  13. Litmus Test inconclusive. Up to 28 days before the model is produced. So you could be looking at 4-6 weeks before you get the model. All metal, that was a bit of a surprise. They must be using the old metal molds, as GW [big bad swear word]-canned the Failcast/Finecrap resin. I see a lot of old veterans looking to use the service to complete a collection, but a noob won't. Price is a bit surprising! I was expecting higher, considering the gold standard is 10 model Space Marine Tactical Squad for $40. I guess the final determination will rely on how often they change the offerings and the selection. I know I'm more than a bit disappointed that this initial batch is all Imperial Guard models. If I was an old IG Vet, I'd probably be pretty happy. Meh.
  14. MK II Crusade and MK III Iron Armor are significantly different in appearance from the MK IV-MK XIII patterns to be readily noticeable on the tabletop. Specifically, the head and backpack, but even the legs are different, and if you look close enough, so are the breastplates. What does it mean? That a force in 40K wearing MK II and III armor would look very odd and out of place if you had a significant presence of newer patterns on the table. You could probably get by with say a squad of the older pattern, but having say, a 50/50 split would just look out of place. In 30K? Well, they had up to MK VI and even some MK VII towards the end of the Heresy, but not in any significant numbers to have an entire force wearing it- towards the Siege of Terra, every Space Marine Legion was using whatever armor and weapons they could get their hands on, hence the patchwork armor seen so often in so many pictures. In my opinion, and being an ex-military guy, I like uniform conformity, and I want all my guys wearing the same pattern of armor, and if they are not, there should be a good reason why. I've gotten into more than a few arguments over the years about it. All I know is that before you go off to war, you WASH EVERYTHING- tanks, vehicles, airplanes, helicopters, ships, artillery, guns, uniforms... EVERYTHING is as clean as possible. Over a long campaign stuff gets dirty, and the uniformity breaks down, but after you return back to garrison/home station, you WASH EVERYTHING again. It's like the military way of life, and I can't imagine it being any different 40,000 years from now. Seeing the sprues and pictures online of the Custodian Power Armor and Sisters of Silence- well, fluff wise, the Custodians had their own version of Power Armor anyways, and they exist in 40K as well as 30K. The Sisters of Silence I have no idea. They have some kind of armor on, but I hesitate to call it Power Armor, as it's lacking the Fusion Reactor backpack. It also looks like they use huge swords, but they are not painted like the typical Gee Dub power sword, and bolter weapons. After that, I have no clue. The Custodians and Sisters of Silence would look significantly different from the rest of a Space Marine army to again, look "odd" on the table. For me, if it's painted well enough, then the Rule of Cool carries the army. If they are unpainted, and clearly taken because they are THAT GOOD, and a clear WAAC unit, then no, I wouldn't like it. That's my opinion.
  15. The Genestealers for this set look almost exactly like the ones from the recent Space Hulk board game. Are they? Could be a cheap(er) way for you to acquire more Genestealers. And if you are, let me know. I have a box sitting around doing nothing.
  16. I'm curious how many boxes some people will buy for multiple Custodian Guard and Sisters of Silence and what they will do with the other 37 models and and paraphernalia associated with the game. What to do with the extra models The rumors I've read over at Dakka Dakka says the MK III Marines are all generic in nature with a decal sheet for the Space Wolves and Thousand Sons. MK III Armor is significantly different in design aesthetic from MK VI and above. Personally, I like it, but it's not for everyone. For me, they will end up as a Legion Tactical Squad of Luna Wolves who haven't quite adopted the SoH paint scheme yet for my Sons of Horus. When I end up with multiple boxes- I keep telling myself I'm only buying one, but I know deep down that's a lie, I'll have a full Luna Wolves army in MK III armor... If you're starting a Thousand Sons or Space Wolves army, you could use them as a start for your army, but again, that MK III aesthetic... The Tartaros Termy's are a bit harder for me anyways. Termy's are actually pretty good in 30K, so having a unit of 5-10 of them wouldn't be bad depending on the weapons they come with in this set. Personally, the Cataphractii Termy's are better with the 4++ (though they can't run or Overwatch). Tartaros just adds sweeping advances. Sons of Horus are all about Cataphractii/Justaerin Termy's, so for me, I'll be looking at getting rid of them, either in trades or probably eBay. Another rumor I read over at BoLS was a quote from an interview with a design studio guy: So might be worth shelving them for a bit until these new bits come out for a 40K Rubic Termy. The Unique Characters... great if your doing SW or TS, if not... eBay or trades. Hobby Ideas for the Box Components Could you carve up the board tiles and glue them to boxes for building fronts? Wouldn't that be cool? They are probably a top down view, so not practical. Maybe as some kind of counters or more battlefield terrain? 24 dice, multiplied by the number of boxes... depends on their quality I guess. GW always goes with cheap, resin dice that are horribly unbalanced in an odd size- like 10mm or something. Not the typical 12mm or 16mm size. I'm not sure I'd ever want to use them in a "real" game. Now, if they are 12mm and the six side has a Space Wolf or Thousand Sons on it... With all the extra sprue frames and the dice, by using some of the unused board tiles or the box itself, you could glue bits of cut up sprue and dice to make passable Battlefield Debris/Rough Terrain. The Psychic Power cards and counters will probably be unique to this set. We won't be able to use them in 30K or 40K. :( Rule book and fluff will go in the shredder after reading them. That leaves the counters- it would be kind of nice to have like say, a "Falling Back" counter, or "Pinned" or etc. etc. They are probably unique to this set too. Could probably glue a bunch together and use them as supports for the terrain. So yeah, that's about the best I have for using the rest of the box for 10 models.
  17. Yeah, for this model, you can easily swap out the head and arms/weapons, but not the chest, or the overall pose without some heavy duty hacking. It also looks like you're stuck with the chest and the cape covers the entire back of the model. They are getting better though!
  18. Big storm heading towards Portland on Saturday. NOAA is saying 50+mph winds on Saturday, along with a lot of rain. Wind gusts up to 65 mph... I'm gonna be watching the forecast a bit tomorrow, and if it looks like it's going to be bad, I'm skipping the tournament and batting down the hatches to weather the storm. :(
  19. I love the new models Gee Dub is throwing out these days. No other company can make as detailed and fine model in plastic as Gee Dub and it shows. They are really stepping up their game with digital design and production. The bad part: The way the sprue is cast and the model cut up means it can really only be assembled in one way, making conversions difficult. I'm kinda reminded of what it was like to convert metal miniatures. In that medium, the metal is what makes it difficult. In the plastic medium, its the intricate detail and mold cuts that make it difficult. Still loving the models Gee Dub is producing these days.
  20. If they add Sisters of Battle to that list, then it would mean that the latest blurb about the Sisters in several months was a lie/Trolling, or its more likely a few years from now. Gee Dub has a tendency to pull a line of models right before a new release of that model line, especially in the case of all new sculpts. The true Litmus Test of this service will be in how much it costs, and if the different production centers will have the same OOP lists. I can see the UK having all the molds and being able to make anything, but would GW USA in Birmingham, AL have the molds for making a particular model, or would they have to send off a request to the UK for them to make it, in which case time and shipping would be outrageous.
  21. From the website: You don't make it a goal to win, but now that there are points in AoS and it's a tournament, you will play competitively? What is your definition of competitive play? I haven't seen or played against all the local players around here, but the ones I have played against have not had this caliber of a "power" list. What happens somewhere else with an army has little to no bearing on how it will perform here, locally, at this tournament. Using that as some kind of performance metric to how well it will perform here locally is not a good metric, or even any kind of indicator of it's performance at all unless we all played the exact same armies and played exactly the same way. It's an Anecdotal fallacy. You are joking, right? Are you seriously trying to say that just because your army has the potential to steamroll over everything else that you will somehow play in an inept or incompetent way that will make your army OK to play against? Not trying to be a jerk here, it's just that I was not expecting such an army at an event that "emphasizes fun and sportsmanship", supposed to be a potluck where we all bring food, and share it during the day. My thoughts were that it was going to be a fun time, lots of good game play discussion, throwing some dice, pushing little toy soldiers around, and not really caring about W/L. Your army is shocking to me because it's so focused on winning and will destroy my planned army (Ironjawz) in maybe 1-2 turns. My expectations for this event are obviously not the same as your expectations, so I apologize for trying to guilt you or make you feel bad about your army. If we face each other, I'm still going to offer to shake your hand, I'm going to do my best to keep my opinions to myself and mouth shut, and try to "have fun".
  22. I anticipate it being something along the lines of Rouge Trader to 3rd Edition change. If you were around back then and were playing, then you know how much 3rd Ed changed and shook up the entire game! It's hard to believe that we've been "limping along" with the same basic rules set for over 18 years now... myself, I would love to see 40K get the AoS treatment. Get rid of all those stats, tell me how many dice to roll, what numbers I want to roll, and call it a day. So much rules bloat...
  23. Thanks for the prompt reply! I just want to get my army all shiney and chrome so I don't look like some kind of Grot with a paintbrush! Getting some game time in with the scenarios will be awesome! When we roll up to a table and my opponent says "Ah! Blood and Sand scenario!" and I'll be taking off my clothes and putting on my sandals and unsheathing my Gladius shouting "Those Who Are About To Die, Salute You!"- well, that would be embarrassing and I'd rather be like "Oh! That's an euphemism for Purge the Alien!"
  24. If you guys haven't been up to Card Kingdom before in Ballard, there is basically no parking except for a paid parking lot across the street (unless that's changed...). Otherwise, it's curbside parking. Also, it's like a stupid maze trying to find the place. No easy way to get there. 1000 points... bleh. What to bring, what to bring...
  25. Kill Team is meant to be fast and brutal, but against certain armies... well, I just hope people go with the spirit of the game and not WAAC.
