  1. If Toy Story's Andy had been an Eighties' Baby Gen Xer
  2. As a general rule-of-thumb, I prefer to buy all of my Space Marine units in the full ten-man strong size. Their Combat Squads special rule allows you to split them into two five-man demi-squads before deployment at the start of the game*. So if you feel that the mission or the match-up will favor having two squads of five, you have the option in your back pocket, however you can never make two squads into one. Obviously, if you need to have two squads in order to fill out a Deatchment's Force Org, then you need to balance the CPs gained from the Deatchment versus the utility of having the flexibility of a ten-man squad. * There's also a Stratagem that lets you do this during the game, but I haven't used it yet and it seems like a very niche case when it would come up. Still, it is there and who knows what might happen in a future game? Given the way Blood Angels work, this isn't a bad idea. But this kinda duplicates the role of the Death Company, so I think you'd be better off with a Troops Unit for their objective secured rule. If you weren't running the Custodes, you'd probaby want a unit of Vanguard and a unit of Death Company (for punch) and a couple Tactical/Intercessor Squads (for holding).
  3. Minor formatting note, it's much easier to read a list that just says "Scout Squad: 5x Sniper Rifles, 5x Camo Cloaks [4 PL, 80pts]" than to see each individual member of the squad as their own line item. In units where there can be a much greater variety of wargear (e.g., Death Company) then you might want to list them on individual lines. You've kinda done this backwards here... 😉 As for the list itself, it's certainly going to be a brutal one: Smash Captain, Mephiston, and the Banana Bikes are all very good at what they do. However, about the only thing they do is kill stuff. In any Missions where you need to take and hold Objectives, you're going to be depending on your Scouts and Death Company. Neither of which are all that good at it. Death Company are excellent rapid-moving assault troops and you're paying a premium for them to be good at that job... Using them to hold an Objective is not an efficient use of them. Scout-Snipers aren't mobile at all, if you want to take advantage of their shooting, they can camp on an Objective in your zone... But five of them will fold to anything the opponent dedicates to taking them out. Bolter-Scouts are good at the take and hold game (not quite as durable as Tacticals, but close enough) but five of them? Well, its just five men. I'd recommend using the 172 Points you have left to get a full ten-man Blood Angels Tactical Squad or Intercessor Squad.
  4. Nearly all balance problems with plastic miniatures (even big dragon types) can be solved by super-gluing a metal washer or coin under their base. It was much harder to correct balance problems on metal miniatures (especially the big dragon types... That @&$#ing forest dragon man. Loved the model but also kinda hated it).
  5. I don’t miss pewter as a modeling material, but I do miss every individual part of a Citadel Miniature having an individual SKU that let you just phone up the Mail Order Trolls a buy just that bit...
  6. And the dangerous Vindicatif Assassins of the Temple Québécois... The can disdainfully stare at a man from over 10 kilometers.
  7. O Cadia! Our homeworld and boot camp, True patriot love, In all our sons conscript! With glowing las, We seal the Eye, The Cadian Gate, strong and fast, With bolt and flame, O Cadia! We stand on guard for the God-Emperor of Man, Glorious and free, O Cadia we stand on guard for thee! O Cadia we stand on guard for thee! Okay, ya white-shield hosers, let’s play some hockey! And keep the puck on the ice or I’m reportin’ ya to the Commissar, eh?
  8. 3.5 outta 10 stars. Contains some, but not enough green. Far to little choppa. Doesn’t seem brutal at all, although does seem pleasingly cunning. Would not Waaagh! would only produce keening shrieks, sepulchral moaning and an eerie, dissonant whispering... I’m beginning to suspect these aren’t Orcs at all. (One of them has pointy hat. Another some sort of shrubbery. Possible these are elves.)

    Tau...

Those look like every other Tau Crisis Suit to me... I guess the weapons look a little different and they have unique “backpacks.” We’re not exactly talking about substituting an M1 Abrams for a Renault FT... More like substituting a Sherman M4A3E2 for an M4A2E8.

    Tau...

I can’t tell the difference... Just make sure they have the right guns and are some sort of mecha suit.
  11. Well, technically they were "Feedback" and then "The Hype" before they became U2. They also had two members who left the band fairly early on, all four people in the band have been there since day one, but the band sort of has two Pete Best's. (One of whom is The Edge's older brother!)
  12. Imperial Guard Canadian Shock Troopers.
  13. Oi! Youse wanna come up ‘ere an’ sing dis zoggin’ song!? Or do’s I hafta come down dere an’ shove dis microphone down ya gob?!
  14. I remember my high school years as a Hot Topic Anarchist... Of course, that was before Hot Topic, so I was more of a thrift store anarchist. Then in my junior year, I decided to be “edgy” and write my term paper on the anarchist philosophy. Lemme tell ya, actually reading Bakunin, Goldman, Proudhon, Chomsky, and the rest of the major anarchist philosophers was probably the biggest influence in my political thought. I ran so far to the opposite end of the spectrum sooo fast...
  15. TIL that U2’s frontman, Bono, is really named Paul Hewson and he’s been happily married to the same woman, Alison Hewson, since 1982. I’m not much for following (or really caring about) celebrities’ private lives. But, it’s no secret that Hollywood actors and rock stars often have relationships that go sour faster than a gallon of milk in the Arizona desert. So when I find out that one of them has been in a happy relationship since before they became an internationally famous mega-star... Well, I dunno, it just kinda warms my cold, misanthropic heart a bit.
  16. Is dere somefing metal, in yo’ battlefield? Whose youse gonna call? Tankbustas! (“I ain’t a’feared uv no tank!”)

    Tau...

There’s also the obvious problem that Points values (and PL’s) are not balanced against the game as a whole, but within a faction. Imagine two units with identical stats, one Tau and one Marine, but that is more useful to Tau than Marines because it does something unique for Tau and redundant for Marines... The Tau would pay more.
  18. When the GSC came out as just upgrade sprues for the existing Cadians and then the Tzaangors came out packaged with both Fantasy and 40k bits, I thought it might have marked the start of a trend... But that doesn’t seem to be happening.
  19. He’s just a man. With a man’s courage...
  20. I want to pick up a Goliath (or two), some Servohaulers, and maybe some of these new Ridgerunners and demilitarize them. Turning them back into civilian vehicles, they’d make great terrain for Kill Team or Cityfight.
  21. On a similar, but tangential note, I've been pondering if a lot of the "chasing the CP dragon" problems with the present edition might not be solved by amending the Org Chart. Have everyone start with a set number of Command Points based on the sized of the game being played (say, 5 per every 500 points?) and only one detachment. Have everyone use the same Org Chart: 1-3 HQ, 2-6 Troops, 0-3 Elite, 0-3 Fast, 0-3 Heavy, 0-1 Flyer, 0-1 Lord of War, 0-3 Fortifications. Dedicated Transports are "slotless" but limited on a one for one ratio to other units. Then let people buy extra slots on the Org Chart with CP: +3 Troops slots 1 CP +1 Elites slot 1 CP; +3 Elites slots 2 CP +1 Fast slot 1 CP; +3 Fast slots 2 CP +1 Heavy slot 1 CP; +3 Heavy slots 2 CP +1 Flyer slot 2 CP +1 Lord of War slot 2 CP +1 HQ slot 2 CP; +2 HQ slots 3 CP Add a second Faction to your detachment, +2 CP Add a third Faction to your deatchment, +5 CP Obviously, the math might need some tweaking, but I think the concept works.
  22. Maybe give Inquisitor and Rogue Trader HQ’s a special ability that lets them “requisition” certain Troops units from other Imperial armies and count them as part of their faction? I mean, back in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader the default assumption was that the player was a Rogue Trader and the forces on the table — a mix of Imperial Army, Space Marines, and other strangeness – were part of his ship’s compliment. So there’s precedent for a powerful Rogue Trader to have a squad of Astartes under their command. Likewise, it’s a long established part of the lore that an Inquisitor has the legal authority (and often enough political clout) to essentially “pull rank” on anyone short of a High Lord of Terra or a Chapter Master. Space Marine Tactical Squads, Space Marine Scout Squads, Imperial Guard Infantry Squads, and Imperial Guard Conscript Squads could be allowed as Troops Units for any Detachment with an Inquisitor HQ. Battle Sister Squads, Grey Knight Squads, and Deathwatch Squads could be allowed for any Inquisitior HQ of the appropriate Ordo.
  23. According to the Everett Interpretation (as expanded upon by DeWitt) of quantum mechanics, there is no wavefunction collapse when the initial superposition of several eigenstates appears to reduce to a single eigenstate due to interaction with the external world. Instead, all possible outcomes exist simultaneously, basically creating an infinite number of alternative futures and pasts... Others have hypothesized that if this “many worlds” theory exists, then it may be possible for an observer from one eigenstate to observe alternate eigenstates. Which those of more similar alternates easier to observe than more radical ones. Ergo, in a nearly infinite number of other worlds you did talk about Warlord Traits and my response made perfect sense... and then quantum decoherence caught up with me as and I found myself stuck in a timeline where the other thing happened. I’m not wrong, we’re all just living in an incorrect timeline.
