  1. Emphasis added. This is flat-out wrong. Use of excessive force is a violation of a person’s Fourth Amendment constitutional rights. A person who believes they had their rights violated may bring claim against the officer, his department, and possibly the municipality or state he works for under 42 U.S.C. Section 1983 of the Civil Rights Act of 1871. When such a claim is made, courts and juries must look at whether a reasonable law enforcement officer in similar circumstances would have used the amount of force in question. If the ruling is that the amount of force used was justified, then by definition, it is not excessive force.
  2. Don’t recall the name of my opponent (my own fault, I’m terrible with names and should have written it down) but my Imperial Fists won much glory for their Primarch and Emperor when they stopped the foul Necrons from scuttling the shuttle we were fighting in. The Dice-Gods were in my corner, apparently, as I had a run of good dice rolls early on... Which began with my Intercessor Sniper taking his Deathmark Leader out of action with the very first shot of the match. It probably would have been a much closer run thing if the Dice-Gods hadn’t also blessed my Armor Saves. 12 VP for me, to his 5 VP. And no doubt that in some tomb, on some planet that no living foot has trodden upon for aeons, a bunch of very cranky robots are having their memories uploaded to new bodies and will be seeking revenge...
  3. I’ve always liked the way that terrain is handled by Saga; Terrain is all given specific states for height (high enough to block LOS or too low), cover (helps in shooting or helps in shooting and mêlée), difficulty (no effect, slows movement, slows movement and might injure you, impassible), and finally size (small, up to 20 cm x 20 cm, or large, up to 30 cm x 30 cm). These stats all combine to define explicitly how a type of terrain works: All fields are small or large, low, uneven, light cover, for example. Doesn’t matter if it’s an Anglo-Saxon wheat field, an Iroquois corn field, or whatever. If it’s a field, it’s a field. The predefined terrain types are field, hill, marsh, rocky ground, ruins, steep hill, and woods. When setting up the table*, for the default “non-scenario scenario,” you are limited to no more than one large terrain piece of any kind. There are also limits on the numbers of other types of terrain. So you don’t have to worry about your pick-up game suddenly turning into the Normandy landings because one player decided to put every river in the clubhouse on the table! *Saga is played on a 3’ x 4’ table by default. For the 6’ x 4’ standard for WHFB/9th Age/KoW, I’d probably double these numbers.
  4. Misty is (and always has been) a Gritty Cop Show! style of detective, she’s basically “Dirty” Harry Callahan in a miniskirt. Personally, I think the logical place for the MCU!Netflix shows to go with her character is to have her extralegal involvement with powered vigilantes end up getting her fired. It’s been established that she’s been dancing on the razor’s edge with One Police Plaza for years, a lot of her superiors dislike her, the corrupt cops all hate her, and it’s basically only politics and “good optics” that kept her on the force after the events of Luke Cage series one and The Defenders. So, let’s say something happens with Misty as collateral damage from Luke’s new Face-Heel Turn as the king of Harlem (we all know it won’t last, but we also all know something really bad is going to happen first). This gives “the brass” the public relations cover they need to fire Misty... And then Misty can open a PI office in partnership with Colleen and we can get the Daughters of the Dragon series we all want!
  5. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed making terrain more than almost anything else in the hobby, aside from actually playing. I’d much rather be hip deep in pink foam, static grass, and Mod Podge than painting my miniatures.
  6. If this Battletome follows the precedent set by all the previous releases (and I see now reason it would not) then there’s going to be a difference between what you need to play and what you need to play with all the options. See my explanation in this post.
  7. If that’s ones goal, then yes it is. If that’s not your goal, then no it’s not. My ex-girlfriend is a pro/am deejay, she owns a $5,000 audio mixer sound thingy (that’s the technical term). I own a $15 clock-radio slash CD player. Her sound thing wouldn’t be worthwhile for me, my clock-radio wouldn’t work for her.
  8. 2D Terrain is a very good option for people concerned about budget, small storage space, and/or transportation. If you do some googling, you can also find “paper craft” terrain (farmers’ cottages and town walls) that can be broken down and folded flat. Not quite as aesthetically pleasing as “proper” terrain, but if you only occasionally play at home and don’t have budget or storage space for fancier stuff... Why not? (Plus it’s really useful for those of us who are also GMs for fantasy role playing games.)
  9. Because there’s no room for it on my Dashew FPB 98 motor yacht... Oh, and just like the yacht, I also can’t afford it either.
  10. I wasn’t really serious when I brought it up. Gorkamorka was a really fun game (I’m in the minority that preferred it to Necromunda) but, no it wasn’t a good starting point for playing WH40k. Personally, I just wish GW would start selling something equivalent to their Start Collecting / Battalion Box sets with a bundled mini-rulebook, mini-ruler, and some dice. That way people wouldn’t necessarily be locked into “Space Marines and X” combinations like they are with all the previous starters. If a complete newcomer is standing there in the store drooling over Tyranid models and his buddy is really interested in Imperial Guard... It’d be a lot easier to talk them into an $85 SC! box with free rulebook than into a big old starter box with models they don’t like or an SC! box and expensive rulebook. I mean, I get it. War gaming is not a cheap hobby and GW’s games are on the pricier side of the hobby too... Plus, obviously economies of scale and market demand have made “Space Marines and X” combinations proven and profitable. But would it really cost that much to stick the 12-page basic rules into each SC! box alongside a fistful of dice?
  11. You say po-tay-tow, I say WAAAAAAGH!
  12. A friggin’ Wave Serpent in a starter set!? We’ve come a long way from the cardboard standee Ork Dreadnaught of the Second Edition...
  13. Death in Paradise, a joint BBC One / France 2 production, about an Detective-Inspector from London who gets dragooned into working on a small island in the Caribbean that seems to inexplicably have an impossible to solve murder (or two) every week. Not a serious crime drama by any means, but a rather lighthearted whodunnit that reminds me very much of Monk, Psych, or Columbo. Think of it as Murder She Wrote meets Doc Martin meets a Royal Caribbean Cruise Line commercial. Fun and quirky characters, lots of charm, and an absolutely spectacular backdrop (filmed on location in French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe).
  14. It’s a half-dome and a pipe. You can get them at Home Depot.
  15. Isn't it a pile of ISOtainers?
  16. A $50 terrain kit that could be had for $10 from any one of a thousand MDF terrain manufacturers... or homemade from $0.50 worth of foam board. I like Kill Team a lot as a game, but I'm not too impressed by the value of the kits. Obviously, value is subject and if other people feel its worth it for them, more power to them.
  17. Mostly hyperbole, but considering the prices they're selling the Kill Team teams for ($60 for five Reivers?) I think its safe to assume that they're going to overcharge for these too.
  18. Repacked existing single model blister packs as “Commanders,” chucking in a few chipboard tokens, and charging $65 a box... 🙄 You’re a bunch of beautiful bastards, GW.

  20. If no one minds, this is an an area I’ve been looking at getting into myself. So to answer Scottshoemaker’s questions myself... Do you want a kit or prebuilt? Prebuilt. What is you budget? $200-300, give or take. How big are you planning on printing? Probably nothing larger than 6” x 6” x 6” at the extreme end. Usually quite a bit smaller and in subassemblies. I don’t want to replace proper miniatures, but I’d like to make wargame terrain, dungeon tiles, and tokens. Do you want to start small then upgrade later, or go all in? Small to start, growing from there. I’ve been poking around the internet looking for reviews, feedback, and the like. I’m leaning towards the Monoprice Select Mini 3D Printer V2. Retails for about $200 USD, most places, and seems to be pretty well liked by most reviewers. Thoughts?
  21. I don't like most of Citadel's terrain, to be honest, with the Wall of Martyrs range being a strong example of everything I don't like about their aesthetics. "Less is more" is not a design principle that the terrain design team seems to be aware of. The only WH40k terrain that I really liked was the Imperial Bastion and Aegis Defense Line. I like "blank" walls that I can add details and gribblies to myself, I don't need every square millimeter of the piece to have skulls, cogs, aquilae, and so forth on it. Sigh. But there are literally hundreds of other companies that sell terrain I like the look of better (and trenches are really easy to make yourself). So if the rules for this battlefield type are good, I might buy this set anyway.
  22. Add some bastions, watch-towers, wrecked tanks, and the like... You could do a pretty cool rescue the downed pilot from “No Man’s Land” mission. I think what Kill Team really is lacking is rules for night fighting.
  23. Pedantic point of order, but the Constitution never said a black man was “3/5ths of a person,“ that’s an annoyingly common false belief spread by bad social studies teachers and middle schoolers who didn’t pay all that much attention in class. Article I § 2 seals with the apportionment of Congressional representatives and the allocation of tax burden to the states. These are based on population numbers, with free citizens counting as “1,” Indians counting as “0”*, and everyone else counting as “3/5.” This meant slaves, yes, but it also meant foreign nationals, resident aliens, and so forth: ”Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States... according to their [population], which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons [and] three fifths of all other Persons.” * Even this is as racist as it sounds, remember that in 1789, the various Indian nations were still foreign sovereign nations. Giving potential hostile powers the ability to influence political elections is not a good idea.
  24. They are releasing an official Organized Play kit sometime this month — it’s GW shipping times and release dates are more “guidelines” than “rules” — perhaps we should look into getting ahold of a kit?
