  1. Doesn't the splooge belong on the Slaaneshi tank? ?
  2. I suppose I should make it official and mention my daughter's starting to collect Sylvaneth.
  3. I meant that it's the only thing on the sprue, so regardless of what options the rules give them, you'll have to kitbash an axe or stave. (Assuming they have the option. GW has been on a bit of a "not in the box, not in the book" kick lately.)
  4. Little annoying that the Force Sword is the only mêlée weapon option for the Primaris Librarian... Tiny, small, minuscule level of annoyance, it's a great looking kit overall. Its also interesting to see that the Primaris Librarian gains the Deathwing rules but not the Primaris Captain? That makes only two Primaris units so far that are part of the Dark Angel's Inner Circle: Librarians and Captains in Gravis Armor. However, a Dark Angels Primaris Librarian doesn't generate his powers from the Interromancy Discipline... Not sure if these are just oversights or actually rules as intended. I mean, compartmentalization of information is a hallmark of the First Legion. Circles within circles...
  5. It's just good sportsmanship to assume that an ambiguously worded rule should be interpreted in the way least advantageous to oneself as possible.
  6. As long as you aren't "modeling for advantage" or being otherwise unsportsmanlike, I feel that most players won't care if the bases are round, square, or hexagonal; beveled, lipped, or flush; official Citadel standard issue or third party custom jobs... I'm only speaking from personal/anecdotal experience here, but AoS players tend to be much more relaxed about these things compared to WH40k and WarmaHordes players In short, the AoS community standard seems to be "Don't be That Guy." and as long as you play by that standard, you can do anything else.
  7. Honestly, I feel like the pros and cons of bases being bigger or smaller cancel each other out. Obviously not doing intentionally silly things like mounting lone Goblins on 60 mm chariot bases or sticking Ogres on 20 mm goblin bases... But something with a footprint appropriate to the model that's on it? I don't really think we need to worry about the exact dimensions. I just don't want rulers and such to be dinging up my paint!
  8. Oh, sure, I can come up with all sorts of possible reasons... some are even quite plausible ones. It is just one of those mindset things, I guess? I dunno... I "came up" on WHFB from its very early editions, played many other wargames, roleplaying games, dabbled in historical reenactment/SCA, etcetera. All of which tends to make me analyze things — even high fantasy games about magic supermen who get teleported across the cosmos by lightning bolts to do battle against sentient trees —from a historical verisimilitude angle. So, it's an annoyance. But I can overlook it.
  9. At least you still get Lysander. I play Guardians of the Covenant not Dark Angels. As a result of the new rules, I can not field any named Special Characters.
  10. I don't have any problem with Unit A shooting at Unit B who is engaged in mêlée with Unit C. I have an issue with Unit A shooting at Unit B when Uhit A is engaged in mêlée with Unit C. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that a longbowman with a daemon trying to disembowel him has time to put away his sword, pick up his bow, nock an arrow, aim past the daemon trying to gnaw on his face, shoot at a target 50 yards away, and then resume the swordplay... ?
  11. I think that Primaris aren't quite "ready for prime time" as a stand-along faction. They'll probably be a lot more viable once they have the Dedicated Transport, Dreadnought, and Librarian that we know are in the pipeline.
  12. Well, maybe they'll make these changes in GHB v.3? Almost everyone uses base to base measurements anyway, the shooting thing is annoying but manageable, and so forth... Like I said, I'd like to see these changes but can live without them.
  13. Bear in mind, that the linked article was published in May, 2000... WH40k Third Edition was still basically brand new, having only come out in late 1998. In May of 2000, only the Vanilla Marines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and Space Wolves had codices (and three of those would get "revised" by the end of 2001). The Dark Eldar and Necrons were still the new hotness. Heck, Tau wouldn't even debut until 2001. This was a time when "Rhino Rush" was still a breakout strategy.
  14. Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Deathwatch, and Space Wolves have a lot of differences from the other Space Marines. Hence, they have separate entries in the indices. Amongst the "Vanilla" Chapters the main difference is the named Special Characters. But there are a few other ones hiding in there: Tyrannic War Veterans and the Terminus Ultra are unique to the Ultramarines; Crusader Squads and the Emperor's Champion are unique to the Black Templars; and of course the Legion of the Damned are, well, the Legion of the Damned. Oh, and IIRC, Black Templars cannot include Librarians. This has always been part of their fluff ("Suffer not the witch!") and has been a mechanical rule in the past. But I'm not 100% certain if it's in the Index or not.
  15. Wait until you run into a wall of fifty Conscripts and a Commissar. Scout-Snipers' ability to target the guy in the fancy hat is invaluable in this situation. Not to mention Tau Ætherals, Apothecaries, Waaagh! Banners, and so forth... Scout-Snipers aren't going to one-shot enemy HQs, but they're very useful at dealing with "buff" models. (Scout deployment shenanigans are a bonus.)
  16. I think the problem stems from playing on tables that are too small. I know that 6' x 4' has been the wargaming standard since forever... But I think modern WH40k would really benefit from a larger battlefield. There's just no real room for maneuver when even the slowest movers can close with the enemy in two turns.
  17. I'm hoping the core rules remain untouched, as I'm extremely happy with how AoS plays. The only minor changes to the core rules I really think are needed (and I stress again, these are minor) are pretty simple: Reinstate base-to-base measurements. But with a sidebar saying it's okay to ignore bases when practical and reminding people not to get too hung up on 32 mm rounds versus 30 mm squares. No more shooting by units that are engaged in mêlées. "Heroic Intervention" lifted from Eighth Edition 40k.
  18. More of a CRACKOOM! really, but I guess that's close enough to THWAKK. ZAP is right out. Right. Out.
  19. Don't get me wrong, it shows excellent sportsmanship on your part that you're so concerned about it... I'm just saying, don't sweat it too much. Many, many, many moons ago (before blogs were a thing even even) I read a great essay called Putting an End to Cheesiness. It was an eye-opening moment for me: "I might not beat you, but I hope I’ll give you a run for your money."
  20. I was being a just little facetious.
  21. Power Level for casual, Points for cutthroat.
  22. It's fine. You worry way too much about what other people think of your army list. You followed all the rules when building it, right? Right. Of course you did. That's all I need to know. We're cool.
  23. I have said for years now that anything GW does will be met with three responses: 33% of the player base will declare it the worst thing ever created by humans since the invention of murder and that the game has been RUINED FOREVER. 33% of the player base will declare it the greatest thing ever created by humans since the invention of orgasms and that the game is now PERFECT FOREVER. 34% of us will just continue to play with our toy soldiers, maybe buy the new thing if we think its neat, and continue to silently wish the others could just SHUT THE HELL UP.
  24. At 500 Points, that's a fair horde of bodies... and quantity has a quality all its own. Its also an excellent core to build large point value armies around.
  25. If I'm parsing the "salesman speak" right, it sounds like the GHB v2.0 will be completely standalone but some of the content (i.e., specific missions) in the GHB v1.0 will not be reproduced. This is actually kinda smart, since people who already own GHB v1.0 won't feel that they've been forced to buy the same book twice. Which you just know people were going to complain about.
