  1. General rule of thumb, learned from years of being a paralegal and married to an attorney: never believe anything you see on television (especially television news) about the legal system.
  2. How to tell when your GURPS Game Master is drunk...
  3. The Wave Serpent, alone, carries a retail price of $45... So it’s a heck of a bargain.
  4. Given that the core Saga rulebook for second edition prominently features werewolves, skeletons, and elves in some of the photographs, it’s safe to say a fantasy supplement was always planned. Personally, I’ve always thought the Saga rules would be perfect for capturing the heroic-fantasy feel of Lord of the Rings better than the GW games. Likewise, I really hope we get a supplement covering the Sengoku Jidai period of Japan, the Trojan War and/or Peloponnesian War. (Incidentally, my Anglo-Saxon army just arrived in the mail yesterday. I’m lacking a warlord, but other than that I’m now the proud owner a five point warband. A furore Normannorum libera nos, Domine.)
  5. And my Deathwing army takes yet another solid kick to the codpiece.
  6. Man, OotS really has covered everything that happens at the RPG table...
  7. I know that The Portland Game Store has Armada open play nights on most Fridays. I don’t play myself, but I offer my hearty encouragment any and all who seek to rid the galaxy of those filthy rebel scum.
  8. I had been thinking they’d make them all Specialists (I mean, fluff-wise they kind of are) and disallow them the hiring of Specialists as replacements or new recruits as time went on during the campaign. Just basic Guardsmen Fire Teams. The Colonel can always find a schmuck in the stockade he can hand a rifle, a flak jacket, and a promise of the Emperor’s Forgiveness... Finding talented personalities like Shiv and Animal takes doing. Oh well, since GW decided to make the rules for them exclusively available to people who live in or near Nottingham... Even if I still had my old Last Chancers models, I couldn’t use ‘em.
  9. In my experience (from other games, not WH40k specifically) is that a “U” table tends to result in three separate games: the base of the U, the right-, and the left-leg each playing the opponent across from them and not getting that good “mix” that results in maximum carnage. One way around this is to position all of the defenders in a fortified position that they must “defend at all costs” located in the center base a U or V, having the attackers start at the top of either flank and needing to break in. Tends to play out like the unholy love-child of the Battle of Helm’s Deep and the Normandy Landings.
  10. Weird that so many of the Last Chancers don't have Specialisms... Mechanically, they're just non-specialist Fire Team grunts!

  12. I’d recommend an “H,” “C,” “T,” “X” or even “O” shaped layout for the tables. H and C work, more or less, like I described above. For X or T you put a smaller 4’ x 4’ at the junction of the four or three 6’ x 4’ tables. The O shape involves crawling underneath the table to get into the void, but, most of the time you’re just on one side of the table anyway. Narratively, you could say that the void represents a hive-city spire, a fortress-monastery, or the like having the defenders on the inner side of the O trying to hold off the attackers coming from the outer rim.
  13. I don’t like completely separate tables, since that just ends up being a bunch of separate small games instead of the one giant flustered duck that makes for a proper Apocalypse. These things do require a lot of advance planning, however.
  14. The problem with 12’ x 12’ is that it’s going to be really hard to reach models towards the center of the table. At the extreme, it’s six feet from edge to middle at the nearest point!
  15. You’re talking about deployment, specifically; im talking about movement in general.
  16. He means it’s pretty rare to have a 10” vertical terrain piece with Reivers on top and targets 2” away from the bottom. Most enemy players will only let you pull this trick off once. Then they learn their lesson.
  17. Q: How many canids can a Canadian Cadian canid collector field in a single Canadian Cadian canid collection? A: As many canids as the Catachan cats a Catachan Cat catcher can catch.
  18. I wouldn’t have any objections to people adding a doggo model to their Imperial Guard army and having it “counts as” a regular Guardsman grunt.
  19. Up to the individual organizer(s), but generally Apocalypse games are organized so that there’s an agreed upon point value, say 9,000 per side, and the players are split into two teams. Each team decides how they’ll split the points amongst themselves: Alice, Bob, Chris decide that they’ll each field 3,000; But Adam, Betty, and Cathy decide they’ll field 2,000; 2,500, and 2,500 respectively. (Bringing Lords of War is fun, especially if you have some that spend more time on the shelf than in game... But I’ve had plenty of successful Apocalypse games where I fielded bog standard units. Just in really large numbers. Warlord Titans are tough, but putting a full Deathwing Company on the table — 108 Terminators! — can be equally good.)
  20. That’s the one I have my eye on. Do you have any pics of what you’ve been able to make?
  21. This is one of the main reasons chefs and cooks in “real” restaurants don’t wear aprons. Gimme a half-way decent chef’s jacket any day.
  22. Back in Michigan, my friends and I all found that multi-player Apocalypse games worked best on an “H” shaped layout. Two 6’ x 4’ tables make up each of the “uprights” on the H, with a fifth 6’ x 4’ table placed perpendicular to the others forming the center part of the “H”. The “gaps” are treated as impossible to move through but you could draw LoS across it for significantly long ranged shooting. We set up the tables to that the central bit was basically a grimdark gothic Pegasus Bridge, one half was your typical blasted gothic Space Stalingrad, and the other half was a Battle of Ypres trench warfare hell. The “voids” in the “H” shape make it easy to reach the models on the table, the “bridge” makes a fun strategic chokepoint, and the distances to get from one corner of the “H” to the other makes maneuver important.
  23. Women have been part of the Imperial Guard model line since before they were called Imperial Guard. They aren’t commonly seen models, anymore, and I believe most went out of production during the switch from pewter to Finecast, but they exist.
  24. The Domino’s I used to manage had a washer/dryer ;all in one!) for the hand towels and a laundry service that picked up our aprons and floor mats weekly.
  25. Changing topics: Is it just me or are laundromat dryers really, really, really inefficient? I swear, it takes me three times as long (and thus many more quarters) to get a load dry in a laundromat than it does at home. No, I have no empirical evidence of this and have not bothered to actually research it. I’m stuck at the laundromat and feel the need to vent.
