September Apocalypse Event at my pole barn

Hello there,

Advanced warning that I am going to bump this to the top so I can keep track; my apologies if this is in poor form and please let me know if I'm not supposed to do it.

What:  Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse event

When:  Saturday, September 13th, 2014.  Set-up begins as early as 0900 hours, with the first turn starting promptly at 1000 hours.

How:  I have a pole barn that can accommodate everything we need.  I have tables.  I have (4) Realm of Battle boards so the gaming environment will be 16' by 6' (8 tiles wide, 3 tiles deep).  You can leave your gear in the barn if you need to leave and come back, etc.  Security is tight at the homestead, no worries.

This is a one-day event with open timeframes.  That is, the event opens on Saturday, September 13th at 1000 hours.  Folks can come when they want and just game.  If folks come in later, think of them as reinforcements.  If folks have to leave, think of them as regrouping.  Thus, battles will be going on for undetermined times.  We close up the event on Saturday at 2000 hours so folks can have the rest of the evening to chill.

I will provide mission details for overall tactical thoughts and have forces divided based upon the armies coming and storyline.  Needless to say there will be reasons for conflict and allegiances may shift depending upon what each army's goals are.

What I would like from you, dear reader:

1.  If you are interested, please state so.

2.  If you are interested, please list the army that you would be using and how you currently utilize this army in terms of fluff (i.e. "traitor Guard" or "Eldar that tend to want to destroy everyone" or "Tau that are striving to work with the Imperium" or whatever).

3.  If you are interested, please feel free to make this your event and come up with any special rules, ideas, whatnot that you want.  I can provide a basic framework, location and all that jazz... but the players make events!

There will be restrooms and running water, I can have a BBQ going, and the event will be covered from elements and have lighting and such so no matter the weather we should be good to go.

If this sounds like a good idea, please reply and let me know how I can get this going!  If this sounds like a load of rubbish because I live up in Birch Bay and no one wants to drive, let me know how I can make this work down at Dark Tower Games or whatnot.

I got back into 40k when 6th edition launched.  I've played two &%@#$* games.  This sucks and I want to play!

Stay safe,

don

Me,me,pick me! Any weekend minus September 27 and 28 (this will be a recurring theme with it being ofcc).

I would do space Marines and knights (I have a set of home brew knights using dreamforge leviathan guns cuz that is what I have. I'd love an opportunity to put three of them on the table). I specialise in drop pods but can do more traditional mech despise the imperium but hide with in its borders so I can pay either side :) I just want to field big guns! I also have two baneblade chassis that are magnetized to be allot of things. I might include some sisters if given enough points to play!

I am down

What I really want to do is get all my eldar and DE on the table at the same time.  This means many many fast skimmers :D.  I have the same weekend restrictions as Corey.  Fluff......i'm good at cheese not fluff.....still thinking......I'll go with easy fluff.

The world we are fighting on is a chrone/maiden world that both factions of Eldar originate from, some people are doing something to endanger it to the ravages of the warp and there is enough emotional connection to bring both factions of eldar back here together to avert disaster.  I will be looking to ask for assistance ( manipulate anyone I can ) in helping to stop this event.  Fluff enough?

I so want to do this - September is getting busy, but I'll give it a go.

1st things first: Don, I challenge you to a game of 40k (2000 points, if possible; otherwise, I'm flexible) at Dark Tower on Tuesday September 9th. Or 16th. Starting at 5 or 6. Using tactical objectives. I promise you a good, laid back learning experience against a fully painted Nurgle Chaos Space Marine (with Daemon allies) force. If your son wants to come and hang out and enjoy the full Warhamster experience (sans the traditional after-game beer), he'd be welcome!

OFCC weekend doedn't work for me, and I start teaching again on the week of the 22nd. 20/21 would be rough for me, but I could do what I could to swing it. At least part!. 13/14 would be better.

My designated Apoc army is my Necrons (5000-odd points, fully painted, no psychic phase or weird stuff to speak of, so it plays really fast, plus I know it like the back of my hand). My Necrons are from the Nihilahk Dynasty who are traditionally isolationist and xenophobic, but recently started an aggressive policy of expansion. They could really end up fitting whatever side they needed, but might end up betraying their own side. The Necrons kind of hate the Eldar (and vice versa), but we've come up with justifications for an Eldar/Nid/Necron vs Imperials battle before, so let me know the narrative and what side you need me on, and I'll come up with some fluff to make it work. I'd love to get all my 'crons on the table, but feel free to give me a points limit to shoot for.

Your place sounds great. gaming spaces need to be broken in with epic gaming events!

Let me know what else you need in regards to food/beverages/terrain/anything else.

Hello there,

Thank you so far for the replies... just a quick batch of thoughts through my house leads me to thinking something along these lines with regards to the storyline / atmosphere:

*  forces of the Imperium investigating rumors of STC tech on the planet

*  unbeknownst to the Imperium forces, the planet DOES hold some tech on it... but it ain't STC.  It's alien in design.  And would you lookit that?  The Necrons appear to own it and are rising to defend it

*  the Eldar and Dark Eldar know that having either the Necrons or the forces of the Imperium to take possession of this tech would prove dire for the Eldar's continued survival, so they are hustling to eradicate both forces from the planet

*  Corey's "despise the Imperium" forces can't resist getting their hands on the tech for their own nefarious purposes, so they toss their gauntlet into the ring as well

So far looking to be a pretty good crack up of forces!

I will start to paint my 4th RoB board starting tomorrow in the same color scheme as the others so we'll have a somewhat cohesive-looking tabletop.  My forces will not all be painted, sorry.  The ox is slow but the Earth is patient.  :)

And so far it appears that the weekend of September 13th and 14th is what I'm going to plan for.

That'll give attendance a boost and also be far away enough from OFCC for folks to recuperate.

I've edited the original post to reflect these dates.

Stay safe,

Oh hey, before I forget:  if folks need some models to flesh out their forces, I will have models from the following armies here that you can borrow for those crucial extra bodies to throw into the mix...

*  Tyranids.  A lot of them.  Like eight feet of shelving worth of them.  Lots of troop mobs.  Lots and lots and lots.

*  Tau.  Pretty good selection, probably 3k+ points?  I think there's 2 riptides, 3 broadsides, 15 crisis suits, 6 transports, etc.

*  Eldar.  A veritable ton.  Like... a lot.  Like eight feet of shelving worth of them.

*  Orks.  A good fair sized amount but sadly no transports really.  But lots of footsloggers, so that's a bonus.

*  Chaos Space Marines.  Not very many but I do have over 50 cultists now.  ha ha.  Pretty small force otherwise, though.

*  Necrons.  A bunch

I'm planning on playing with my beloved space marines and I can field a ton.

Generalripphook, you are hereby requested to play your Imperial Guard as loyal servants of the Imperium of Man.    On my note sheet thus far this would work best to "even out" the currently arrayed forces.  Thank you for your consideration to this, it's appreciated.

However if you normally play them as "evil Guard" and want to do that, just please let me know and we'll easily make that happen.  :)

If I can clear it with the wife, I would like to join.  I haven't counted the points total for my Bugs, but i am guessing it is in the 10k points range if I slap everything on the table.  Will there be paint requirements? If so, I will have significantly less models to field.  I will get back to you ASAP.

Are you close enough to the water to throw crab pots in?

Once the game starts you might be able to catch a crabby gamer or two.

So where are we on my home brewed knights? Kosher for me to show up with them and play Em, want them posted, nix them entirely?

I wrote far more than I would actually use the idea is that they could be usable by anyone and compatible with scratch builds using big toys, I have some deamon rules for chaotic versions! I would love to see some on both sides of the table...

Mostly it is rules for more weapon options, a dual ranged version, a close combat version, and a leader type that mixes both.

Why home brewed? Why not just use the existing rules for knights? Sure the models are a truck bigger (or smaller), but that's no big deal.

Weapon options like I said! That and deamon rules there are chaos knights out there! Basically I got the leviathans to stand in for war hound scout titans, so I have lots of weapons. I was working on a one v one big game with a guy I met through George who was gonna scratch build some things about the same scale but very chaossy so I got these things sitting around. I like the killy and survivability scale of the knights better so using their stats I wrote a host of weapon options...

I'd use non chaos versions...

Hello there,

PumpkinHead there are no paint requirements... so please consider yourself invited on the list!  Your hive fleet just happened to be in the system and saw the apparent all you can eat buffet of forces going to the planet.

Please start with the bad people.

Oh and regarding the crab pots... the homestead is less than 2 miles from Birch Bay's waters, if that helps.

If you know where the C shop is, it's right down the road.

VonVilkee, it's up to the player base regarding the home brew rules.  If folks would rather just used established rules, I'm cool with that.  If folks don't mind then I'm cool with that, too.
