  1. Major prize support has been allotted for this tournament! I thought you'd all like to know that we are potentially going to be able to offer $500 in prize support. Participation is part of that number but a major chunk has been pledged to us for this one!
  2. I played with Space Marine allies in my Tau force. it worked pretty well. I took 10 Terminators and Lysander. Lysander is awesome. You're playing it the other way but i dont see why he wouldn't be just as good backed up by tau instead.
  3. Im not building the army to fight just one army though is the thing. So whikle I want a fighting chance against the Daemon Circus, I have to keep in mind that they aren't the only army I face. Battle Psykers for examples are next to useless against Daemon Princes. However, against a lot of lists, they are very good. So i am right now loading up on tools, and seeing how it does against different forces. I think the Daemon prince army got a lot more than he bargained for from me, and I was in the game the whole time. One thing about that list: killing his troops or his portaglyph for first blood and then concentrating on troops which are NOt hard to kill in that army, is a good way to make it tough on him. As much pain as he can bring to me the reality is, you dont always HAVE to play primary objectives against such a force. You can work towards secondaries. He nearly lost the first game because of it and in the second game I was taking so much damage from his flickering Fire that I simply had to end that threat to the extent i could. One thing I thought about: Daemonic instability. Weaken resolve makes a Daemon very susceptible. If he loses by 1 in close combat, he may as well have lost by 100 right?
  4. You're dead on on most of what you said. My last two games were against Daemon Prince lists. Both were losses. 5 Princes of some sort or other and a Heldrake actually. It is a brutal list and it did all of what you just said for the most part. My blobs never actually got tangled up with the Daemons because they were afraid of the power weapons and For the Honor of Cadia. Their advantage from the skies was just too great to muck about in the mud with us. So he used as much shooting as he could...and it was a metric TON of Flickering Fire shots. when you can hit an army of IG with 5-9D6 ULTRA accurate AP 4 shots... game over. Add to that another 4D6 regular such shots and it is a LOAD of pain. I did very well against it DESPITE that gut check. I was able to down one of the pain givers but of course the one I could not was blistering me and pretty much did a lions share of the damage. And 2+ saves with re-rolls or whatever makes shooting the thing down quite the undertaking. Only LOTS of high STR shots are going to matter and so even though the Hydras wont actually KILL very many, I dont need that. I just need reliable ways to hit them so they are forces to m,ake checks and if i nab one by chance it'll be on like donkey kong.
  5. As for what the power ought to be, it hardly matters. The rules are clear on it and im not OCD enough to care about trying to fit it perfectly into those categories, although we know they will when the new book comes out. As for overloaded on things, I might say I am...prepared. Having 4 anti-air units is actually quite a lot. Having that many Twin linked anti-vehicle units is quite a lot. Having that many power weapons to deal with a charge, our weakness for sure, is quite a lot. Can't disagree. LD is rock solid and the reach out and touch someone factor ain't too shabby either with the Vendettas who can drop a little care package off for someone and kinda lets me do the whole Eldar Jetbike move if the flyers srvive. All I can do is disallow the enemy from having an overwhelming advantage at any one point. That's kind of what the list does best: avoids mismatches. It isn't a thundrous killing machine like Imperial Knights, but it will let you know you've been in a worthy fight. There will be wreckage and bodies aplenty.
  6. The rules are particular to them. The power just happens in the shooting phase. Its not malediction. Its not anything but its own thing.
  7. We are pretty anti-Stronghold round here. So i probably wouldn't go that route. A Chimera is how i normally see them fielded but i am stretched pretty thin on points. What could happen in the end analysis is I COULD drop a Psyker Battle Squad at some point in the future. I haven't played enough games to get a feel for them. Against the Demons, i was useless (though they did shoot and assault minor daemons with at least "okay" results since there was no overwatch with Horrors). Against the Deldar I faced (basically a Psykerstar with the Baron and some troops and artillery a WraithKnight etc...) I didn't get a very good chance to use them due to terrain, but definitely would have gotten a chance later in the game, but we got forced to curt the game short. I played against a Tyranid and did fine, but there again, the Psykers were of limited use. So having ONE might actually be enough. Too early to tell still. if I did, I could afford my beefomatic Platoon Command Squad I think! For those meeting at the Game Matrix in Tacoma on the 22nd for FlugerPalooza (we are moving it there because Fluger had some stuff come up) you might get to see this army as i try to kind of work on it.
  8. Yes they ARE "one of those units". I agree completely. The thing is, when they aren't AS useful, it's okay because the army in GENERAL copes well with the stuff that doesn't fly. Ground pounders will never be a significant source of worry for this force. Probably ever. We can take the hits and we can soften the blows ahead of contact. But the flyer and skimmer spam forces will always be at minimum a concern for this army due to the volume of fire they produce, which my list hates incredibly, and the durability of those platforms that can pound us. As long as Hydras put me on EVEN ground (at least) against any force i face, then I'm okay with an inexpensive pair of "maybe maybe nots". I have a kncack for finding a use for things. But a list that has no answer for X is in trouble at tourney. Even if its great against everything else, there must BE no X factors that you simply cant handle. I have seen in my last two test games that such "hard counters" did exist for me without the Hydras. I suppose one hopes not to have to face lists like that too often, but one can't ignore the possibility. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Twin linking the Lascannons against flyers proved to be insufficient against an overload of them, Also, a platoon Command squad that could melee would have been nice because those Daemons hit hard in combat but they don't have unlimited wounds and if I can just tag one for two wounds before I ground and pound there's a good chance I can end one. It makes me really want to try this Platoon command idea against such a force. Even though I ultimately lose the Platoon command in the following shooting phase, it protects an entire blob for a round against what could have been two Daemons charging THEM. If only one can get there or dares, then the blob itself has a fighting chance. BTW, refusing a challenge against things with tons of attacks doesn't work very well. Precision hits are a B****. Lol. He used precision hits to snake my Overseers, which popped my Psyker Squads due to their special rules even though they were made fearless. whuuuuu. Good lesson though. Something to think about with those Psyker battle Squads.
  9. Looks like we got some commitments amongst the okympia crew. Could be a good day of gaming.
  10. Ah... the glorious parade grounds of Enfilade. Will German dominance once again manifest its presence? Or will the allies turn the tide of war?
  11. Look closer. There is a commissar for one unit, and Coteaz for the other. Coteaz generally doesn't need divination because of Creeds orders. He can make four units fearless every round or EFFECTIVELY give a version of prescience to several units depending on the situation. So Biomancy has proven somewhat useful, or a combo of both. As for the hydras, their usefulness against non flying lists can dramatically be better by killing a rhino or whatever. It is a risk to take hydras at all. I am hedging my bet. There are power lists out there that require serious anti air. Sadly my list will be capable. However I need a way to make sure the unit can function when that isn't the case.
  12. And verily it was so. We meet at the Matrix then. It opens at 10:00. It will also give folks a tune up for the tourney on the 29th.
  13. Kay so I made some changes. The platoon commands at this time are shooty. I am not yet able to figure out how best to deploy the platoom commands that would be punchy. but Creed does allow a scout move, so that's food for thought. 1 Manticore Rocket Launcher + Heavy Flamer 1 Hydra Flak Tank + 1 Hunter Killer Missile + Heavy Bolter +1 Pintle Mounted Stubber 1 Hydra Flak Tank + 1 Hunter Killer Missile + Heavy Bolter +1 Pintle Mounted Stubber 1st Infantry Platoon 4 Platoon Command Squad + Meltagun x4 1 Platoon Commander 7 Infantry Squad +Grenade Launcher x1 1 Heavy Weapons Team+ Lascannon 1 Sergeant+ Melta Bombs + Power Weapon 7 Infantry Squad +Grenade Launcher x1 1 Heavy Weapons Team+ Lascannon 1 Sergeant+ Melta Bombs + Power Weapon 7 Infantry Squad +Grenade Launcher x1 1 Heavy Weapons Team+ Lascannon 20) 1 Commissar+ Power Weapon 1 Sergeant+ Melta Bombs + Power Weapon 7 Infantry Squad +Grenade Launcher x1 1 Heavy Weapons Team+ Lascannon 1 Sergeant+ Melta Bombs + Power Weapon 2nd Infantry Platoon 4 Platoon Command Squad+ Meltagun x4 1 Platoon Commander 7 Infantry Squad+ Grenade Launcher x1 1 Heavy Weapons Team+ Lascannon 20) 1 Sergeant+ Melta Bombs + Power Weapon 7 Infantry Squad+ Grenade Launcher x1 1 Heavy Weapons Team+ Lascannon 20) 1 Sergeant+ Melta Bombs + Power Weapon 7 Infantry Squad+ Grenade Launcher x1 1 Heavy Weapons Team+ Lascannon 20) 1 Sergeant+ Melta Bombs + Power Weapon 1 Guardsman Marbo 6 Sanctioned Psykers 1 Overseer 6 Sanctioned Psykers 1 Overseer 4 Company Command Squad Veterans+ Carapace Armour 1 Lord Castellan Creed + Grenade Launcher x1 1 Chimera+ Multi Laser and Heavy Flamer + 1 Hunter-killer Missile 1 Inquisitor Coteaz 1 Vendetta Gunship Squadron 1 Vendetta+ Heavy Bolter Sponsons x2 1 Vendetta Gunship Squadron 1 Vendetta+ Heavy Bolter Sponsons x2 Models: 108 Kill Points: 15-20 Heavy: 3 Troops: 4-9 Elites: 3 HQ: 2 Fast: 2
  14. Consider it set up, assuming fluger, doesnt object and the players would like?
  15. well I think some of this mught be being driven by the ToF software. Maybe that would be a starting point.
  16. Anyone feeling like still coming together on that date since some have set it aside, and getting together at the Game Matrix? Or Olympic Cards and Comis? Both are large enough. Could also host it myself, but I'd need to have a little warning so i can clean it up a bit.
  17. Some results is better than no results. A lot of units in 40K must be whittled. That you must is not necessarily an argument against weapons that "only" whittle. Some might say its an argument for them?
  18. WHERE: GAME MATRIX 8610 S Tacoma Way, Lakewood, WA 98499 (253) 583-9708 WHEN: March 29th 2014 See the schedule Below WHAT: 1999 point Warhammer 40,000 WHY: Because you worked so hard on your forces and you need a place to try them out for realsies WHO: You and every friend you can muster or tell about this event. Find a friend and bring them. It’s silly not to travel in packs. And so maybe two or three friends then. and maybe bring 10 or twenty of those packs. What does this mean for you and your life as a gamer? Well so glad you asked! It means that those of you who have been putting off painting now have no excuse. It’s an excuse to get some work done and win some stuff. Should be good times. There are a few things that are bound to need attention so let me start right off: A. $20 per person. 1. We are not using Stronghold, nor Escalation rules for this particular event. 2. You can use any official Codex, and any non-Escalation or Stronghold related Dataslate that you can provide rules for to your opponent before, during, and after the game. 3. Forge World RULES will not be used. Forge World Models can be used as appropriate proxies so long as they require no extensive explanation to your opponent and are more or less the correct dimensions. 4. When “time” is called, if the current round is not complete, you will return to the previous rounds victory condition total to see who won. You must complete the entire rounds events for the round to count. Rounds are over when the judge tells you they are over. If your clock contradicts that of the judge, the judges clock will be the one we use. 5. SLOW PLAYING WILL NEVER BE OKAY. For those unfamiliar with that term, it means that you intentionally slow down the game in order to avoid losing. Certain armies are like thundering hammer blows in the early going, but they take it in the shorts later on. Tau are a good example of an army that can be up by 6 KP’s before they start losing things...but they lose them pretty rapidly later. So if a Tau player was himming and hawing and generally going slow to avoid the loss, I would have no compunction about issuing a warning or even a Victory Point Penalty. If that warning does not have the desired effect, I will simply exclude you from prize consideration. So, your best bet if time is running down and there may or may not be enough time to finish another round, don’t sit around discussing it. Just mark what the current Victory condition totals are and play on. Then if the next round truly cannot be completed in GOOD FAITH, then you return to that previous completed rounds score as your final one. Prizes in General: You can win multiple prizes. If you win Best Sportsman, you win it. If you win Best General, you get that too. Makes no sense to give a title like Best Sportsman to someone who was third best for example. Just doesn’t. Prizes will be determined by the number of players present. Best General and Best Sportsman are guaranteed to be prizes. It’s simple math: we want the prize to be worth the effort. So if you tell EVERYONE, FACEBOOK EVERYONE and generally don’t procrastinate nor let up in your recruiting of players for the event; and don’t let any bias get in the way of having a good time, then we should have no problem giving more prizes. =). If we reach 12 players, Best Painted will have a Prize. If we reach 16, here will be a prize for Best General. 6. Bring your main rule book, Codex FAQ, Templates, Dice, objective Markers etc... so others don't have to borrow you theirs. Painting Requirement: We will not judge paint with a rubric, but we will REQUIRE painting. Any unpainted models can and will be be permanently removed from play for the tournament by a judge. Don’t act offended when it happens. You have now been told ahead of time that all models must meet the three color standard (Base color, contrasting color and probably weapons or something). If there is a prize for paint, it will be player voted, not judged by me (because the Good Lord knows I have no business judging it). Each player will inspect the armies during our lunch break and name their favorite. Most votes wins. Tie goes to the person with the least number of wins. Makes it worth painting no matter whether you win or lose, don’t you think? Other Stuff: Make your life easy: bring a display board. So much easier to move armies about and display them and people like them. A plank or even a McDonald Tray is better than loading and unloading from a bag. Just a suggestion, not a requirement. QUESTIONS: We ALL forget rules! There are a LOT of codex’s with many rules interactions and then there are FAQ’s that create another layer of possible discussion. In addition, the parallax effect can make us see things differently from one another on blasts and so on. Talk about it for a minute, look it up (The index works great) and if you cannot agree (and it happens), dice it off so you don’t get into a slow play situation. But if you feel like it is imperative to the outcome of the game, or maybe neither one of you feels sure ENOUGH to make a call on it either way, then call for a judge. Rulings are final until the tourney is over and will be the best attempt at correctitude we can make at the time. Sadly, we’re wrong sometimes. But if a decision HAS to be made by a third party, we’ll make it. Better that you ask before the tourney (see the schedule?) or you and your opponent settle it to continue having fun. Schedule: 10:00 Registration. Pay up folks. 10:15 Announcements and repeating one self for those who didn’t bother to read this. Go over oddball FAQ questions, preferably with a focus on being cool to one another. Occam s Razor is the rule. 10:25 Tables assigned and moving of armies begins. 10:45 to 1:30 Round 1 1:30 Set your army up for inspection and voting. You never know! 1:45 Voting on Paint. 2:00 to 2:30 Lunch 2:30 Matchups announced, shuffling of armies 2:45 to 5:00: Round 2! 5:15 Matchups announced, shuffling of Armies begins 5:30 to 7:45 SPEED ROUND 3, Cause Champions go fast. 8:00 Prizes announced and Forum fills with joyous “what a great time I had” accolades, because we all know no one ever complains after a tournament afterwards (tongue in cheek here) 8:15 After tourney Gaming to include...well any game you want. Cause it’s your time. Flames of War, War Machine, Warhammer...you name it, they have it.
  19. Its more than a page...its like two! and it comes with a lot of fluff which in the case of the Black Legion book was incredibly awesome. I truly did enjoy reading it. Learned a lot. But the changes in a Black Legion army are pretty cool. Black Legion Terminator group that is the bodyguard for Abaddon is just awesome. WS and BS 5 for 6 points each? Sold. Chosen as TROOPS? Man. Never going to fear heading to the front with those kinds of troops. They're like Terminators almost themselves. And I'm sorry but my Black Legion Chaos Lord, though ridiculously expensive, is just an absolute murderer. No character, tank nor monster wants any part of that guy.
  20. It is nice. Check my last blog or two. I have a really thorough breakdown on it.
  21. I could um... you know... Let you "borrow" a copy. If ya know what I mean when I say "copy"
  22. Why choose? You cam do both Al Raheem and Creed. Creed is absolutely great right now. I really love using him. I am a far more...utilitarian General. finding synergies and timing my attack is what I do. So a guy like Creed appeals because he magnifies the strengths of the army itself and does allow them the freedom to do their best work. Rarely do you have a "Bad" round when he's on the job, even if you might have bland ones. As far as Platoon Command groups are concerned though, I am hard pressed to find an answer to getting tied up too long in the guard that doesn't involve just shooting something! My initial thought was, you might only need it once every three games, but there WILL come a game when you wish you could just hold the line ONE more round so to move and run to an objective for example with other units. A new codex may totally solve the conundrum. Or not.
