  1. Lol! I bow before the unbridled majesty of your unmodified ranged D pie plates =P Although more seriously if you're saying this list is on the same level as that for OFCC that's something I need to address >_>
  2. I do not unfortuantely. What were you thinking of for the angry screamy peeps? That rhino rush formation?
  3. Oh that hunt, the hunt for a list that not only finds me my cake but lets me eat it too. After belatedly realizing my hazards+farsight+commander+shadowsun list was not going to work due to the deployment limitation imposed by the Infiltrate special rule and GW's FAQ it's time to take a look at what other models I rarely use. The Y'vahra while a gorgeous model (in my humble opinion) is definitely NOT for-fun games friendly. I did drop a pile of money on ghostkeels that never see the light of day and good 'ol Commander O'Rly. Here's a list taking those for a spin. Thoughts on how it might fit for OFCC? And yes, still bringing those breachers! 4. All right. I have two potential lists to run for Saturday and I'm curious which you all would have more fun playing against. I'm going to post them both below and I am completely open to thoughts, suggestions, and definitely votes as far as which you think would be more fun (yes, more FUN!) to play against come Saturday. 5. You, sir, are now thinking like a commissar!
  6. Man your way through it with manly grunts that would do the emperor proud
  7. Is this an event that requires a fee and ticket or just bring an army and go?
  8. If you want 6 crisis suits you're largely limited to burst canons as ranged weapons due to the points involved. 200 point cap. Crisis Suit is 22 points, and cheapest ranged weapon is 8. They're decent anti-infantry with 4 shots each and 4 of them puts you at 120 points. Another 44 for the base crisis suits gets you to 164, and that leaves you with 36 points for two 15 point weapons of your choice and a 5 point upgrade or one twin-linked weapon and a single one. Choose your poison. There's a little bit of play if you want to twin-link some burst cannons in exchange for a heavier weapon but otherwise unless you want to devote a suit to running across the table and flamethrower-ing someone that's about all the choice you have with 6 suits on the table.
  9. Same as this past year or different? There's a decent chance I'll be there anyway and having flown across most of the country I am going to find something to do!
  10. Ok so that's bad. Important safety tip.

  12. It's like fallout, but instead of bottle caps we use leftover bits as currency! =D
  13. I knew there was a reason I liked you. That and bacon ;) It's true I could consolidate into one CAD. The dual CAD is in fact a relic lingering from the initial design I'd put together which contained a y'vahra and required another CAD for the fast attack options so thank you for pointing it out. When it comes to the kroot I don't think of them to be a tax. I've gotten plenty of work out of having an ob sec unit with what are effectively boltguns that can infiltrate, outflank, have move through cover, and are dirt cheap. Preferred Enemy Orks in CC is just kind of icing on the cake as it's free for them. The number of points being saved by going to single CAD and losing the ethereal would only be about 24 due to having to buy bonding knife ritual on all the fire warriors though and at the cost of losing the auras and leadership bubble. Sensor spines on the two breacher devilfish definitely isn't a bad idea though. You are 100% right they throw themselves into terrain with frequency. Heck my last game they immobilized themselves in woods the first time they moved. I was lucky my opponent's drop pod had already come down so they still managed to get close enough to shotgun a full unit of tacts + emperor's champion off the table. The disruption pod question I've gone back and forth on quite a bit since breacher's came out, and the conclusion I've come to (and this is just my personal opinion) is that it's not worth the points. In most situations the difference between a 4+ jink save and a 3+ jink save will be fairly negligible (barring spikes of luck one way or another). Either my opponent will devote enough attention to killing an AV12/11 vehicle with a 4+ cover save that the +1 won't have mattered, or it's going to limp along afterwards as a floating ob sec annoyance. By keeping it cheap to base 80/85 (w/ sensor spines) I am almost guaranteeing that whatever attention is being put towards killing it is probably more expensive than it. If it can absorb that kind of shooting for a round, especially if I go first and throw them forward, I've already dictated part of the firing round of my opponents turn and also delivered the breachers potentially halfway across the table at a minimum cost in resources. Anything after that first round of shooting is gravy. I don't really expect the breachers to survive either after their first alpha blast, but I've yet to have them not earn their points cost in that one round and anything that happens afterwards is just more fuel for my love of shotgun fire warriors :) I've also been considering that since this is probably the last hurrah of 7th edition I should just go whole hog this year with an idea I've kicked around for quite awhile. I love my Hazard suits. I know they're not particularly amazing. Just solid, but I painted them up in a way I'm really proud of and I think the models are awesome. I also have my melee crisis commander character who has just grown in my games for years. Maybe this is the year I bring them both back and just throw out what I've taken to calling the Hazard star. Drop the R'varna, Broadside, and whatever else I need to and put in arcfist, the three hazards with a fusion cascade and target lock each, shadowsun, and if I can swing the points farsight and just have them stand in the middle of the table and say. "Look! We're awesome! Oh god not the face!!!"
  14. Good morrow, good future convertees of the Greater Good! it is I, the Ohio-an Lightning Rod of Hate, here with my filthy xenos preparing for OFCC. In all seriousness it's always a bit of a struggle finding that ideal power level of list for OFCC. My ideal is a list that can given a good game to most player rangers. It won't stomp a garagehammer list, can have a nice solid game against what most years we call a 2-rated list, and with a canny general behind it can at least give a good accounting of itself to the more competitive lists out there. Total Points: 2000 Farsight CAD 867 HQ Shadowsun (135) 195 -Command-Link Drone (20) -MV52 Shield Drone (2) (40) Troops Crisis Suit (22) 136 +Crisis Suit (22) -Fusion Blasters (4) (60) -Shas'vre (10) -Puretide Engram Neurochip (15) -Vectored Retro-Thrusters (5) -Bonding Knife Ritual (2) (2) Kroot Carnivores (60) 60 Elites Riptide (180) 216 -Heavy Burst Cannon (free) -Twin-Linked Smart Missile System (free) -Earthcaste Pilot Array (30) -Early Warning Override (5) -Bonding Knife Ritual (1) Heavy Support R'varna (260) 260 Tau CAD 1133 HQ Ethereal (50) 55 -Recon Armor (5) Troops Breach Team (45) 112 +Fire Warriors (5) (45) -Shas'ui (10) -Guardian Drone (12) Devilfish (80) 80 Breach Team (45) 112 +Fire Warriors (5) (45) -Shas'ui (10) -Guardian Drone (12) Devilfish (80) 80 Strike Team (45) 99 -Fire Warriors (6) (54) Devilfish (80) 90 -Twin-Linked SMS (10) Fast Attack Tetra (35) 70 +Tetra (35) Tetra (35) 70 +Tetra (35) Remora Drone (90) 180 +Remora Drone (90) Heavy Support Skyray (115) 115 Broadside (65) 70 -EWO (5) I love OFCC for it's ability to let me field models and units I haven't before and just have fun. Thsi time around I'm going to put the Breacher's on the table. I love 'em. They're my little blue shotgun army men. In addition the Remoras deserve a chance to be on the field. I'd never given the Heavy Burst Cannon Riptide the time of day before, but now with the FAQ making Earth Caste Pilot Array legal to take I figure I'll give it a chance to shine. Those are really the three units I want to give some fun on the table and everything else is about trying to build a functional list of the right ability around them. The R'varna is in there as another model I don't regularly use who can fill in as a kind of board/crowd control model but I'm not matrried to it. Any thoughts? I'm a little concerned I might not have enough to deal with abundant 2+ armor but not sure how to balance things there and could just be jumping at shadows.
  15. The pros and cons of 2000 points have already been pointed out (no pun intended!) pretty clearly so far, so I won't add to that. I'll just add in my vote of I really like being able to not only have a list with some effectiveness but enough points left over to have some fun toys thrown in too just to have. So my vote's for 2k :)
  16. Welcome new Ohio-an player! Hey, Bryan! If you see this he needs access. Otherwise we'll get him to PM you :)
  17. Heyyyyyyyyy. I thought Vegas was supposed to say in Vegas. You're not supposed to bring it back with you...and if you did how come you haven't sent me some?!
  18. Congratulations! Not surprised at all :)
  19. I really hope we don't see either of those to be honest! Really cool display pieces, put it at the center of a display board, but about as much fun to play against as a rock to the HQ (not to be confused with an ork Rok which can in fact be quite entertaining!).
