  1. ill be there with my typical 2800 dwarfs.
  2. yea hard/soft is pending what the obstruction is. TLoS is dicey so we actually played a 'tiered' system when playing fun games in iowa(swarm<infantry<cav/monstrous<monster/large target). so infantry shooting over infantry=hard. infantry shooting over swarm=soft. but thats not how the ruleset is :) its any model that is >50% obstructed of the target. so yea technically its applied to each model individually, not as a whole unit. the way to figure cover is a little complex but i found the easiest way is to use your tape measure. make it straight to cut through the middle of the target unit and make the line touch the corner of the obstruction and then through your unit. that line is the cover line. once again, hard/soft is pending what the obstruction is.
  3. an all forgeworld CD army is pretty amazing. i was going to do CD as my second army but the models are just too gosh darn expensive. i would trade my beastmen army i just acquired but not sure its an even trade for those models plus they are all primed and not painted so its not exactly what you are asking for... if you play regular dwarfs, i could trade you some pieces for pieces.
  4. brewing! i just brewed a vienna lager yesterday using a decoction for the first time. surprisingly had a better yield with it than before. although my cool down method in my new place here BLOWS. had to resort back to the ol' ice bath technique cause my utility adapter doesnt fit this weird faucet :( think ill have to buy a pump or something to make use of the chiller. whoops, sorry for the rambling. i kinda do that with brewing :)
  5. those look great! i like the idea of going against the norm and giving breakers/drakes some more vibrant color! yea ive heard alot of people loving AoW models for rangers because they look more like 'rangers'. i also just used warriors for longbeards. although the new longbeards look great(and so do the old metal ones) they are way too expensive for making 40 of them. i actually havent finished my drakes... working on slayers right now.
  6. just some clarification, this is a supplement right? as in you can choose to play with the new undead rules but its like SoM where its a choice to add rather than its implied in every game? i like it, it looks fun but im a little concerned as well. im also one of the few that is against the merging of armies. i really dislike that idea(not too much for a logical reason, just preference). seems like just a typical GW business ploy to get people to buy more models and books while creating fewer books and models.... but maybe im just a cynic :)
  7. i use my wii. that actually may not be a bad idea for people just wanting to stream anymore since its outdated and probably cheap now.
  8. 2500-3k games are usually what i like. but small games are also pretty fun. also depends on what race you play as well. TnT and team games are a blast but take longer. i think my favorite game i ever played was a 3k each(so 6k on one side) team game. strangely i was paired with an OnG player and we brought the fluffy-est things ever(like the dwarf high king, who is terrible for his points...). as ML said though, i think its your opponent that's the most important part rather than points. also your expectations from the game. if you are expecting to have a fluff silly game and you play an opponent with a power list, yea not so fun and vice versa. being on the same page is important :)
  9. best wishes to your brother, you and your family, RD. hope the pain and swelling can be remedied quickly for his comfort.
  10. TK are great against elves. with the rise of woodies since their new book it actually has helped TK quite a bit. Heard TK have been doing great in england.
  11. now something that needs a FAQ for dwarfs is stand and shoot with copters... im never going to do that cause its not clear. technically it can by rules since its a shooting attack, but how does it work is the big debate...
  12. usually takes at least 2 shots to bring down a dragon :) unless you're super lucky(which im generally... not)! dragons are great and fun. yea usually not the power move because they can get shot/magic'd to death quite fast, but they are pretty fearsome against infantry in the flank and with a combo charge you shred things. a dragon was probably the main reason i lost tonight tbh. scared to take a side charge and fled. didnt rally on ld 10 and 400 point drakes ran off the board lol. so they definitely can impact a game quite positively as well! my opponent used his very effectively :)
  13. 1. yes you can. single models with fly can do it for sure(free pivots). its the EXACT same rule argument essentially as the drop rocks for terradon lizardmen. and its argued the same way. 'Select one unengaged enemy unit that the gyrocopter moved over in that turn." moved over does not imply moving through the entire unit, it only means any movement done over the unit. if i even simply clip the edge of your base, i moved over it. so thats why i say you have to be just under 19 inches for me to bomb you. (still have to land 1 inch away from enemy!) same way for the bomber as well except he gets to place a nasty 5 inch template ANYWHERE on the unit and scatter. and he can bomb and shoot his gun, unlike the copter which specifically states you cant shoot and bomb same turn. im almost certain its legal. 2. yup i knew that. did i misplay it? i know i played it correct tonight, so idk why i would have forgotten last week? impact hits are the one thing you cant deathblow in cc. you can for stomps though.
  14. id take you on peanut! the dwarfs need their revenge...
  15. ill be bringing my new ofcc list. if anyone wants to throw down im game for 1 or 2 games. also, we should all try and go for a brew sometime again at Green Dragon. that place is awesome...
  16. you did exactly what a wood elf needs to do against dwarfs. kill the easy points/things that can hurt you and run. true wood elf style. and MN could do the exact same thing to me if he wanted to with DE and HE do it as well. and there's absolutely nothing i can do about it. which is why i generally dislike playing elves.. it is always an auto-lose by at least a minor if someone is playing to win unless something silly happens like mass panic off the table ... its kind of why im getting another race. because as much as a like dwarfs(my favorite fantasy race), they are too much rock/paper/scissors and i want a more balanced list that an army cant just avoid the whole game(mass artillery and copters is the only thing really that dwarfs can use to dictate the game... ). empire is kind of my answer to that, whenever i get to painting them.. i think im close to making the switch to full slayers rather than hammerers. i cant keep losing that unit to something weaker than it.. im at least going to hurt something with slayers if they go down!
  17. i think MN had his share of crap luck against me... good game today raindog(playing like a true wood elf 'style' today and kickin my butt ). and MN, thanks for the fun game. i love our bloody games. sometime you'll get, you know, not a cauldron failing a frenzy test or helbrone dying from a flame canon against me...
  18. thanks MN. yea im such an airhead... really appreciate it
  19. i definitely want to get two games in with my ofcc list if possible. after raindog gets his revenge of course.
  20. im going to try and swing by around noon if you guys are still there...
  21. that troll unit is nasty. huge kudos for that unit cause ive never came across a unit like that and it just totally kicked my butt, never thought trolls could delete 38 S6 longbeards... funny thing is in our game you didnt really get off any of the nasty buffs and still whooped me!! your chaff is pretty darn good at redirecting and putting guys where you want them! really cool list... also underestimated your bsb and mage in combat. not many things can take down 28 hammerers...
  22. you can shoot tear drops anywhere in front arc in a direction STRAIGHT from the gun(for example copters can place shoot in any front arc direction from nozzle of gun). a line must go through the middle of the template to the gun, you cant angle it after the shot forward. pretty clear in rulebook. anyone that is trying to sneak a few more models in by turning the flame template sounds like they are bending the rules a bit... also, only models underneath after the shot is adjusted are affected. you dont include models affected by the template moving forward like you would with purple sun, etc. the overshoot is saying where the shot 'lands' not how much area it affects... ive seen that one pulled before as well.
  23. im almost certain there's no scatter die for flame canons. that's the first ive ever heard of that... if you are going to 'super charge' your FC place a marker anywhere within 12 inches(for dwarfs, think its 24 inches for chaos dwarfs...) of the tip in straight line(you must be able to SEE the marker you are aiming for, be sure of that!). then roll the artillery die and add the amount of inches it goes forward in the SAME line drawn from the marker to the tip of the FC. represents the overshoot. for overclocking you get a -1 on blackpowder. so thats boom on 3 or lower, 4-5 no shoot next round, 6 you're fine.
  24. less stinky elves, more things to burn... this dwarf approves jk i like the trees. and i dont think the treeman is a total bad pick tbh even in a regular woodie army. terrible against a few armies(chaos dwarf, daemons and dwarfs?) but he's tough to deal with in combat! with all of those attacks and thunderstomp he can take down infantry pretty easily.
  25. yea i had to roll a 10 to actually hit her. i wasnt expecting that to actually hit on a 10, fail lookout, wound and 3 wounds... thats pretty slim odds there. we'll play another game with less shooting from me. that tends to be more fun :) that was just my 'competitive' dwarf list that i wanted to try for kicks against a strong list like yours. i do agree that if you went all cav you would have beat me, for sure. those fast cav are pretty intimidating... retrospect though, i thought about this, if you would have purple sun'd me early along the line of those two canons, few drakes, organ gun and flame canon... i would have been toast and it probably would have been worth possibly sac'ing the sorceress with 6 dice. that spell is just super nasty against a gunline... but that was a darn fun game. it was looking pretty even really until you failed a few charges and that one drake held? and that one fast cav unit panic'd off the board. definitely want to play you again, you are a great guy to play!
