Brother Glacius
So I've been looking for work now for 6 months and still have not found a job. I can barely even get a phone call, let alone an interview. I am just flabbergasted at this point. Apparently 22 years of development and application support mean nothing. pretre
Have you talked to Fluger? He might have some insight. Granted, I have not had to look for a job since I moved out here in 2003, but... I've heard that networking is the way to go. Have you updated your linked in and scammed all your friends and acquaintances into your network?

Prophecy
I have been doing it for years. Getting out of teaching is hard. I'm actually getting a head hunter at the end of next month.
WarlordGhrom
Would suggest getting a head hunter or a good person to take a look at your resume. I can PM you someone if you need that. Keywords are big still as a lot of firms use search bots on their resumes.

Torg
just entering the market myself - my current employer just gave us 90 days notice... they were sold and are closing the plant in Portland. So I have just started to shop around my resume to the other local printers. Hoping I don't have to long of wait. I won't be worried until after March though. I have already contacted 2 headhunter agencies to assist my search. p.s. Weav... you wish to critique my res as well? -d
Sugarlessllama
Have you thought about the Federal Government? While the pay is lower; the stability can't be beaten. www.usajobs.gov
Duckman
State governments are also good... You still have the "is it funded this year" issue just like you do with the feds but it offers a number of alternatives which are more stable. Weav
Guys, here are a few tips for making a positive impression with a recruiter or hiring manager: Have a LinkedIn profile; make sure it is fleshed out and professional Have a professional headshot if possible Make your LinkedIn title beneath your name memorable Focus on your skills; make sure you have listed everything you can bring to your next employer LinkedIn connect to EVERYONE YOU HAVE EVER MET; this isn't Facebook, there is no reason to be selective Accept every LinkedIn connection from a recruiter, regardless of industry Make sure your resume is modern, and will make a recruiter WANT to look at it; look into alternative formats For example, my most recent resume is in two columns, and I was told by the recruiter at my new company that she had never seen a resume formatted that way; she said it made her want to read it https://www.linkedin.com/in/jasoncweaver/
andy
If you're open to commuting to Vancouver, HP is hiring engineers (SW, FW, HW, Devops) as well as program and product manager types. Check out this link for more detail. None of the positions are in my group, but I'd be happy to chat if you want. LMK.
