Sherbert
Hey everyone. A couple of people in Bham have decided to play Saga. Now I love me some Vikings so there was no way I wasn't going to play the marauding Norsemen. What I really like about playing Vikings is that I can easily use them as several different Norse based factions for when I get bored of playing the Viking faction. I started out using Wargames Factory Bondi and Huscarl warriors. The model are alright. They were super cheap so I cant complain, but some of them have awkward poses and the heads are pretty bland. So I wanted to make them stick and really applied my sculpting abilities. Unfortunately its been awhile since Ive sculpted and I started out working on the elite troops which was a mistake. Once I realized how rusty I was I decided to save the warlord for last. I have almost finished my 4pt warband which is the lowest you can play. I only have the warlord and 4 warriors left before I can start painting. Daneaxe Huscarls. Normal Huscarls
Sherbert
and the warriors I noticed that two warriors did not get pics. Ill take some when I finish the other 4 warriors. Really looking forward to being done so I can start painting. I want to go all out with their shields to set them apart. C&C very much welcome.
dalmer
Hello there, I rather like your sculpting... I have yet to attempt to do any "green stuff" work myself so will have to research how to do it. I think the sculpting you added adds to the dynamics of the models without being too much of the centerpoint... methinks when they're painted you won't know that any "custom" work has been done and nothing looks out of place which benefits the overall composition in my mind. Great job! Stay safe, don
Brick Bungalow
Looks like a fun army to build. Are those the wargames factory models?
Sherbert
Thanks for the comments guys. Brick- yes they are Wargames factory Bondi and Huscarl models. I finished the last of the warriors and took some pics of my wip warlord. and the warlord. There will be a second model standing on the back rock with a banner, but he is very much wip right now. Im going to base everything later today and hopefully prime them later this week. Maybe by the end of the week I could even start painting. Im not holding my breath though.
Sherbert
I finally finished the first unit of warriors. I tried a couple of new techniques with these guys. The first was the use of Secret Weapon pigments. I did a heavy drybrush and then sprayed matt varnish over it. It worked, but about 80% of the color disappeared which was unfortunate. The second was the use of army painter flowers. They were a little odd to deal with and I suspect they will become easier to use for the second unit, but over all I like them. The image of big burly vikings slaying peasants in a field of flowers was too much to pass up. Overall I like them but will have to experiment with different techniques for the pigments.
Sherbert
Update time! I finished the second unit of 8 warriors. I tried putting on a thicker coat of weathering powder and then applying less matt varnish which I think worked a bit better. Next on the list is finishing the warlord. Once he is done ill either start work on painting my hearthguard or start building some levies for larger games.

Sherbert
well here ya go, my almost finished warlord. The bodyguard will be holding a big flappy banner, but I ran out of metal rod that is strong enough to hold up. Im thinking of putting some accessories around the warlords belt like a knife or some small pouches.
Guest
You took rather mediocre models and made them look very good. I am wondering if you would have been better off doing the entire model from scratch, rather than modifying the existing models....
Sherbert
ok, update time. paxmiles- having sculpted a model from scratch, I have to say it is much easier and faster to convert than begin from nothing. I finally finished my unit of hearthguard. and all of my finished stuff with terrain and the church in the background that ive finished. and thats it for now. not sure what ill work on next but im not done with Saga so expect more in the future.
Dylan Gould
I like the color contrasts and scaling of the shield patterns...it will make the subtle stuff stand out even from across the table. The red-on-black raven really catches my eye; there are more ornate shields, but that one stands out. You should bring them up to Olympic Cards & Comics this Saturday for Saga Smash I so I can take a closer look!
Lord Hanaur
Some of those green sruff beards are really cool.

I would love to come to a Saga event but unfortunately I work on the weekends for the next three weeks. After that classes will start again and I will have a little more flexibility. How often are there Saga events in the area?
Dylan Gould
How often are there Saga events in the area? This is our first, as the local group recently started playing. I'm looking at having an event a month that rotates around the various game shops. It would be cool to have you do a quick sculpting demo at one of them... Sherbert
yeah, Im sure Nathaniel would love some sort of event like that. Once im done with work I would love to have some Saga peeps come up to bham and get some games in.
Lord Hanaur
we went up there once for Flames of War and the guy running it didnt show up. But Im sure if there was a 100% lock on it, There would be 6-10 players who might be willing to road trip. Ive only played two games and kinda want to play a few more since I have cool War of the ring models and Brettonian models to use.
Sherbert
update times! I finished my unit of berzerkers. I tried to make them look a lot more feral than my other models, which was pretty easy with the torsos and heads that Koyote sent me. Thanks again for those bud. I will try and add some runic tattoos when painting them to make them even more feral looking.
Lion of Flanders
Excellent stuff throughout! The cloaks and epic beards look terrific.
Sherbert
Thanks for the response! Finally its time for an update. First off is my nearly finished warlord. The model and the base are finished but there will eventually be another model on the taller rock in the back. next next up are the berzerkerz. The Tattoos are a little brighter in the pictures than in real life. And I built another pt of warriors including 2 shield maidens. Thats it for now, hopefully I can get the next unit of warriors painted in the next couple of weeks.

Sherbert
Update! Over spring break I had a little time to myself and decided that I should finally get around to finishing my 6pt saga warband. I painted the last 8 warriors and the banner bearer for my warlord. Im not super happy with how the banner turned out but its the smallest banner ive ever painted and the folds made it a bit more difficult. and a group shot of the finished stuff I want to build another pt of warriors and another pt of hearthguard. I also have a pt of levy. Once all of those are done I will be finished with the vikings and move onto another faction.

Peanut
That's a great looking warband. What colors did you use on the two blonde warriors' bears?
