Keep in mind: My source only had a few minutes alone with the book, and there is an enormous amount of information in a codex, so they couldn't get everything. If anything more makes it to me, I will edit the OP.

 

General Information about Codex: Space Wolves

Sagas are out, replaced with Warlord Traits

6 new Space Wolves Tactical Objectives

New Space Wolves Psychic Discipline: Tempestas (Source didn't get any actual rules though)

 

'Space Wolves Unleashed' Detachment FOC:

Identical to standard FOC, except may take up to 6 HQs

May re-roll Warlord Traits

Each unit joined by an Independent Character rolls a d6, on a 6+ that unit gains Outflank. Troops choices get +2 on this roll.

 

Great Company Formation:

1 Wolf Lord

1 Wolf Guard Battle Leader

1 unit of Wolf Guard

5 units of Grey Hunters

1 unit of Wolf Scouts

5 units chosen from [blood Claws, Swiftclaws, or Skyclaws]

2 units of Long Fangs

Logan Grimnar - Lord of War

Epic new model, comes with a sort of grav-chariot called 'Stormrider' pulled by two enormous Fenrisian wolves, but he can be used without it as well.

Stormrider

Treated as a vehicle, didn't get AVs, has a 4+ Invulnerable save and cannot suffer Penetrating hits (all Pens are reduced to Glances).

Gives Logan 4 S5 Ap- attacks on a turn when he charges.

Logan loses Deep Strike if he takes Stormrider

Lots of other cool rules, but didn't get those.

 

Njal Stormcaller

No new model shown in codex

Looked to be mostly the same, no specific information

 

Ragnar Blackmane

No new model shown in codex

Also looked to be mostly the same, no specific information

 

Ulrik the Slayer

The resin Thunderwolf Cavalry character model assigned a name

Didn't get the rules/stats.

 

Bjorn the Fell-Handed

Epic new plastic model, part of a box that makes a regular SW Venerable Dreadnought, Bjorn, or a new special character Dreadnought named 'Murderfang'.

No longer becomes a VP objective when he dies.

 

Wolf Lord

Mostly the same, no specific information.

 

Rune Priest

Mostly the same.

Specifically noted as starting at Mastery Level 2.

I'm a fan of this. 16 Points for GH as they stand seems reasonable to me. And honestly, I'm just relieved they didn't lose the option entirely.

 

I saw this elsewhere with some added information about Points cost reductions. GH dropping a Point base, so they're only one more with the CCW. BC and Skyclaws down 3 Points per Model, Swiftclaws down 5, TWC down 10.

If all this is true, I can see myself buying a lot of new minis for the first time in years:

2 x Stormfang

1 x Codex

1 x Ven Dread

New Logan?

 

I love the flyer and can see myself fielding one transport (for a big BC squad, plus Ded Trans!!!) and one of the assault ships (+5 GH for ObSec). The idea of a Ven Dread with Axe and SS is just so sexy that I don't know what to say either.

Dammit, now I want to do a full progression, with a PG WG, then TDA WG, then Dread, all kitted out like that, as the same dude through the course of his career.

That's excellent! I'm looking at how I want to play with Krom now (speaking of conversion) since his rules are pretty lackluster. Luckily, it looks like he's easy to convert to other loadouts.

Actually, I should take that even a couple of steps further, start him off as a Blood Claw with just a Chain-axe (I've converted up a bunch of those for my SW), then a GH with Power Axe, then he gets a Storm Shield when he joins the Wolf Guard. And maybe a bionic arm, to give an idea of what he did to be selected for the Wolf Guard and why he chose to pick up a Storm Shield as his first bit of new kit when he got in ;)

15 blood claws and a character coming out of one of those things is going to be a pretty effective assault unit.  I like that that is a real option now because the points difference between them and Grey Hunters is now significant enough that it makes sense to bring BCs.

Damnit...I really need to stop paying attention to GW. I have to say the new Space Wolves stuff is looking really cool. It also didn't help to get a close look at the models in Stormclaw. I really like how much character the SW have for marines. I have a sizeable salamander army already, but for the most part, its just green marines.

 

When you look at a SW force, you know its SW. And the new assault craft is really sweet looking. If I can dump my 'nids, I don't see how I can resist picking up this army.

Since this will be my next new army ill likely be starting up mixing them with AM,would it be possible to squeeze in a Ministorium Priest with those guys,for the save rerolls of course:)

I mean, yeah, we have the PH units currently.  Plus the couple of Nurgle and World Eater units they've produced.  That said, you know as well as I do that it isn't the same thing by any stretch of the imagination.  In it's accessibility or in it's price.  Alas, that's not what this thread is about, so I don't want to further derail it.  

 

Needless to say, I do like Unbound rules for cross utilization now.  :)  SW TWC Juggy Riders, BA AssTroop Raptors, etc
