I started out with hex gaming but miniatures ruined things for me and now I get out something like Panzer Leader which is a great game and just look at the board and counters and sigh as minis are so much nicer to look at and play with. I do remember playing Cry Havoc in my earlier years though I think we ended up using minis with it in the days before 40k. I remember it being good fun though and good presentation for a hex and carboard chit game. Now with modern printing quality some stuff there are some boardgames that are very good looking now. I would have loved to snag one of the big OGRE boxes for example.

Sorry, family IT emergency and the wife and kid are away in BC doing some house sitting so I had to ride the scoot up to Lynden with a new (well used/refurbished) laptop for the wife. On the plus side I had some tasty tasty bacon pannekoeken.

That I have no problem with and having some sort of baseline for being able to play with those kind of units is a good thing but they also tend to unbalance things outside of prearranged play.

Will it happen? I dunno. If AoS does really well for awhile possibly. Do I like what they have done with 40k with Escalation not so much but that is more from what little I saw of it, escalation forces vs non escalation forces are not well balanced. Will I still keep playing yes especially if there is a community to play and the rules are still available.

If it isn't crazy late in the afternoon when I get done with application testing I might be able to show up. Not sure what I would bring as I am woefully behind on rulebook/codex purchases.

Okay that is understandable and cheap. But Applebees? Outback? Even The Spaghetti Factory? Oh hell no. That is just overpriced mcfood, really there are so may options that are way better for the same or not that much more in price. That's divorce complaint time if we go there for a dinner, but then we both really love good food. And yeah I live in Seattle so even nice burgers for two when you add in fries is hovering at $20 and that's not including pop, much less a beer or wine.

Where the hell are you going for dinner that is $20 for two? Anywhere date worthy and I am looking at $60 for two people minimum. EDIT heck $20 is just a little more than the booze bill if we are having drinks.

Now on that I got, well nothing. As far as the whole dropping WFB for AoS, well I am stumped.

Cost of dinner and movie 3-4 hours of fun, over and done with to do again, cost $$$ again. Cost of new unit for WFB/AoS/40k, sameish and you can play with it over and over and over and over. This is what I am getting at. We don't blink at spending this much for a date but then balk at spending the same on something that will last longer and give as much or more enjoyment for a hobby.

And how much nicer and how many more options do you have for the plastic Wraithlord? It is also a model worlds easier to customize and if you build it right you can have one model with several weapon options which you didn't get to do so easily with the metal. I dunno. Thats like comparing the original chuck and eddy dreadnaughts to a modern one. Also one thing I have always done as I just like plastic kits in general, the prices on their kits are about par with the nice side of them. How much nicer is a modern Rhino kit or Landraider Kit? $3 and they were smaller and the blister pack ones look like crap compared to the current ones. I know as I still have them. When I bought the LEAD box of 8 it was $30 which makes it about par with the current kit and the current kit again is so much nicer and has way more options for builds. The things is their minis were really great compared to the market at the time and were near twice what everything else cost then. THEY WERE EXPENSIVE THEN. There were lots of cheaper options at that time but they were not near as nice in the sculpts. It is your entertainment budget, how much fun do you get out of the cost of dinner and a movie? How quick is that over with? How much fun do you get out of building a unit of Dark Elves and using them on the table over and over again? We think nothing of dropping $100 for an evening out but then go oh noes my models cost too much? This all entertainment/fun money. Heck I consider myself lucky that I can actually afford it if I budget right in the first place. And this is the same reason Warmahordes, Infinity, etc are cheaper. Those models per figure are not really any cheaper than GWs.

*sigh* NO! Just No. I know cause I was teen then, and damn near all my income was disposable. Sure it was $30 for 30 plastic marines that were basically not that nice compared to the metal and those were about $6 for 3, which means $18 for a squad and that was a lot of money then. Inflation calculator says $18 in 1987 round up to $38 now. $40 for base 10 marines tac squad per what I just looked up on the GW website, and those are worlds better than the metal sculpts of then, meh whatevs . It only feels expensive to me now because I have such a backlog and a lot less disposable income right now. The other companies that offer the same quality of models are not cheaper per model. They are only 'cheaper' because of lower model count for an army supposedly as last I looked the Warmachine tables had quite a few models per side on them. What does a night out at the movies cost you? $13 to $18 a ticket depending, and if you want popcorn and a drink? What does dinner out cost if going somewhere half decent and not mcfood? Sorry it isn't any more or less expensive than it used to be and the model quality is absolutely amazing compared to what it used to be. What has changed is unless you are job hopping consistently you probably have not had a raise in 10 years. Incomes are flat and inflation isn't. We just remember being able to afford those toys but we don't remember we didn't have rent/mortgage, utility bills, food, replacing the roof on the house, children, etc, etc as well. OBLIG: get off my lawn?

Oh so so much this. I can deal with the late summer early fall spider boom so much easier than swarms of mosquitos, roaches, the myriad of other crawling/flying things of St. Louis.

Cannibal Girls: 5/10 : But wonderfully campy and fun. Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin are a young couple in love looking to spend the weekend in a small town that turns out to be full of cannibals. Ivan Reitman's first feature film. Not good but enjoyable and fun.

And that's the good part about GOG, they have made sure that it will work on a modern PC!

movies movies. Mad Max, 9/10: went opening weekend and scored lots of cool points with the kid by taking him along. this is a big screen movie, much of the story telling is in the background and visuals. haven't seen such a great action film in a long time. And one of the kids friends was over and he wanted to watch a horror film he brought. Thir13en Ghosts: 5/10 : A remake of the William Castle classic 13 Ghosts. It was okay. Pretty CGI puzzle house but otherwise kinda meh. Tony Shalhoub was probably what saved the film from being worse. I will have to rent the original for the next time this kid visits as it is a much better film.

Do you mean the current Journey To The West directed by Stephen Chow? It was good and new take on the story which I enjoyed quite a lot. There are 4 Shaw Brothers films that stick to the written stories and are also well worth watching. Monkey Goes West, Princess Iron Fan, The Cave Of The Silken Web, and The Land Of Many Perfumes and thats less than a tenth of the full Journey To The West. If you are interested there is a modern translation in 4 hefty volumes that is quite good I am only halfway through the first of them and the first quarter to a third is the story of how Sun Wu Kong becomes immortal, makes war on heaven and gets imprisoned under a mountain. Battle Wizard is just plain crazy Shaw Brothers kung fu fantasy fun.

Colossus: The Forbin Project :8/10: This is one of my favorite brainy Sci-Fi films. Good late 60s cold war fear and paranoia shifted from the Ruskies to the Frankenstien monster. Forbin has created a giant computer named Colossus that monitors everything and it will automate the defense of the United States. Only a few minutes after they officialy turn on it reports that the Russians have one too and they both blackmail to be linked up with nuclear missile launches and mankind gets a world government it didn't ask for. This one does not have a happy ending though it is based on the first book of a trilogy which ends the same way. A good thoughtful movie that because of the time it was made the technology will look a bit hokey but they did a good job of making things look plausible for the time period it was made in.
