  1. I think the Lego games are excellent for kids under 12. Fun and good humor. My son has enjoyed them all and has both Lego Hobbit and Lego Batman 3 on his Xmas list this year (age 10 for perspective).
  2. I'm in and prepared to be taught the ropes of 40k as the last time I played was 2-3 version ago.
  3. Let me know how it is, thinking about it. But just dropped a bunch on some other games, so may wait.
  4. So excited for this. Agent P - I know what i want for my birthday/xmas gift ;)
  5. I use these for my skaven army http://www.base-x-of-war.com/html/vermin_movement_trays.html Just need to glue on a piece of metal on the bottom and put magnets on your models and good times for moving big units. Not cheap though
  6. @Dalmer - do read the Eisenhorn books as they are some of the best 40k background stuff I have read from a feel of how f'd up the realm of man is.
  7. I think Pax has hit it on the head. Figure out what would work for you unit by unit then the group could assist. Note I will just be watching as my 40k-fu is lacking currently.
  8. I have to agree with Bronson in regards to what I personally enjoy about the game. I do know that some people enjoy the power/perfect list building side of games as well. When we (Bronson and I) were in college we had a game-friend that would always try to optimize his build in whatever game we played. As the rest of us played for the fun/story/theme side we often had to modify the game to allow him to play his optimized build while evening the playing field with the rest of the players. This is easy when you play with a DungeonMaster or other Gamemaster where you can impose or modify the story/game to allow for all types of players. But with a hard and fast ruleset (minis for example) with no gamemaster it does cause conflicts when you have your type 1 vs type 2 (using Rome's breakdowns) playing together. I think OFCC (taking a semi-tourney as an example) aims to be type 3s, but without some more comp restrictions we end up with anything from 1-3 which can and has caused some issues this last year. So I think that is why it is moving to a 4 potentially to try and get back to that 1 feeling of causal fun gaming for everyone. Now I have no problem with Tourneys or game groups or players being anything from a 1 through 4 type, but I do think it makes a better playing environment where it is clear to everyone which type of games they can expect prior to showing up with a list. Now a player can always change things in regards to power level of a list. Putting someone like Raindog with a casual list pushes it to a balanced list in regards to power for example :) Going to end it here as I think I'm rambling at this point.
  9. My Skaven would have a hard time with that thing killing it, but then again it isn't killing that many models a turn and one bad turn it could easily get messed up without supporting ranked units.
  10. My Skaven armies usually are in the 10-11 range for comp it seems. I took my 2800 pt one and got 10.4 or something like that. For me I dropped the WLC, only had one unit of slaves that wasn't too big (I believe 40ish). I took 3 units of clan rats instead. Also didn't have the earthing rod or warlitter. Didn't take any rat darts as I found they really didn't help me much in general and I prefer to get stuck in and let my opponent feel I'm going that direction. It's possible to make a fun Skaven list that isn't too heavily comped. Just need to only take a reasonable amount of power choices.
  11. Just finished The Martian (thanks all for the suggestion). Loved it even if the ending left me wanting more.
  12. Posts like the pumpkin men is reasons why I will never paint a model personally. HOLY [big bad swear word]SNACKS to quote Archer!
  13. I don't know whether I will see the film, but I would reread your post again and again. Very well written BG.
  14. I think every army needs to be able to buy a Mr Lucky. That is all.
  15. DW - you sound like my type of player and I would love to play against you sometime. Issue with me is time. Between full time work, wife and 2 kids I rarely get a breather. What times do you play? IM me and perhaps we can figure out a few hours where I could slip away and we could play.
  16. Gwah! That model showed up on my facebook feed today in an ad. Seriously Facebook?!?!?
  17. Per the other thread my OFCC list came in between a 10-11 for a Skaven Army. I had the following: Skaven Army: 2794.5 pts Lords: 685 pts Warlord on Brood Horror - 400 pts Brood Horror has Skyre Claws and Rusted Armor upgrades. Warlord has Armor of Destiny and Ogre Blade. Grey Seer (General) - 285 pts Talisman of Preservation Heroes: 451 pts Plague Priest - 294 pts L2 upgrade, IronCurse Icon, Flail, Plague Furnace Chieftain - 112 pts BSB, Halberd, Armor of Fortune, Luckstone Warlock Engineer - 45 pts Doomrocket Core: 839.5 Pts Clan Rats x39, FC, Shields, Warp Thrower Team - 265.5 pts Clan Rats x39, FC, Shields - 195.5 pts Clan Rats x39, FC, Shields, Spears - 215 pts Giant Rat Pack, 21 rats, 4 packmasters - 95 pts Slaves 25, Musician, Pawleader, Shields - 68.5 Special - 419 pts Plague Monks x34, FC, Plague Banner - 293 pts Gutter Runners x7, Slings, Poisoned Attacks - 126 pts Rare - 400 pts HellPit Abomination, spikes - 250 pts Doomwheel - 150 pts The BroodHorror didn't show up on comp (Forgeworld model) but if it had it probably would of given me points instead of subtracting based off how bad it is for the points. Same cost as a HPA and a third of the killy. It is a pretty tame Skaven army overall, but still contains some of the power units (HPA, Doomwheel, GutterRunners w/poison&sling, PlagueFurnace). Not taking a bell or tooled up Warlord (or using the Broodhorror pts better) kept it down I think.
  18. I think we can close this thread with Burk's response. I'm on Ordo Alpha and we hold no grudges at all. Congratulations to all the teams on such a high mark of 3.5+ for sportsmanship. Looking forward to next year.
  19. Wow....that is so far from what OFCC games should be like. Gaming the rules is just sad. Sorry you ran into that. I had heard of someone doing the reform/conga to jump into the building turn one as well from someone else, but couldn't believe people were doing that in OFCC. *sad face*
  20. My thoughts and comments. I like the idea of no Forge World (including Chaos Dwarves). They are just not thought through well in regards to rules and "fun" in regards to what an OFCC list should be. Swedish comp or some other form of comp is clearly needed. I like Nathan's thoughts on it and it mirrors my own. Set a range 10-18 (middle of the road, but not too soft). And yes some will try to game the system, so you still need someone to review the lists to remove the R-P-S armies. I didn't care for the wandering tower or the diagonal setups. King of the hill, Mr Lucky (my fav), Fort points are all good. King of the hill gets a scrum going which is always fun to watch/play in my mind. Mr Lucky is just a blast. And having the fortitude points is great because it pushes people to take standards and more rounded units in my mind. Deadlines are necessary and if a team can't make that they shouldn't bother playing in the OFCC. I understand someone dropping at last minute and needing a replacement. But whole teams not turning in lists til only a couple weeks out? If they can't make the deadline, maybe this isn't the tourney for them. I really just want 5 great games to remember til the next year. This year I had 2 great games, 2 ok (which is fine), and 1 horrible game. And unfortunately, that makes this the worst OFCC yet for me. I think part of that goes back to comps. More even teams make for much better games as both sides feel they have a chance in the game. Just my two cents.
  21. I think comp is mandatory for next year. The discrepancy of the some the lists is glaring. I like teams of 4. I think smaller just wouldn't work in regards to overall team feel for me. I think as a captain if you run into someone that isn't being reasonable you just need to let them go their own way. "Thanks for offering to be on the team, but we have decided to go another way with the team this year". I'm sorry if that would hurt someone's feelings, but the whole point of the OFCC is a FRIENDLY group of games between FRIENDLY people. If you can't get that through in your army list, you may not be taking the FRIENDLY path.
