Guest
Now, I don't expect everyone to be as OCD as I am with this. I do think that everyone should have a version of this process. It seems crazy to me to spend the money, but not take to time to make the models look good. For the "clip - glue - repeat" crowd, please know that I am silently (or not so silently) judging you for your hobby sins. :) I have a similar attitude, though my process includes losing a key component of the model progress, shelving the project, and coming back to it months later when I find the components or when I decide to go another direction with the project. Lord Hanaur
These pictures continue to prove that actual progress is being made. I believe these pictures. That is all.
evil_bryan
15 down, 15 to go! I put a lot of work in yesterday, and got through 15 Acolytes. That leaves just 15 more to finish off the Overkill boxes (minus the additional characters.) Once completed, I will be left with some decisions as I open the Neophyte and Acolyte boxes. Which special weapons do I build? How many of the Acolytes should be built as Metamorphs? Also, in an effort to never finish the build process, I bought some Genestealer Cult upgrade sprues from ebay. I have lots of Cadians new on sprue around the house, so I should be able to build lots of cult guard guys. It will also allow me to add cult icons to vehicles. I am also considering building some Chimeras, as I have some around the house as well. The one thing I do not have hanging around are sentinels. I will have to check out the formations that have a sentinel tax to determine if I need to get some of them.
DisruptiveConduct
I like the talon metamorph! Three attacks on the charge at S6, I4, with assault grenades! The handflamer access gives you a great squad to dig out snipers or entrenched enemies.
WestRider
I like the talon metamorph! Three attacks on the charge at S6, I4, with assault grenades! That's the Claw. The Talon is +1WS. The Claw is totally my fave of them for general use, but I like having at least one per Unit with a Whip for purposes of Sweeping Advances and such. DisruptiveConduct
Ya, i thought you could do double claw, but its double talon is the option.
WestRider
Ya, i thought you could do double claw, but its double talon is the option. Yeah, and double Talon is a pretty bad option. Trading in your Rending Claws to go from WS5 to WS6 isn't even worth it for 0 Points. Now, if you could double up on the Claws, that might be interesting. I could see exchanging Rending on a couple of dudes in order for them to hit at S8 all the time.
DisruptiveConduct
Exactly! A poor mans power claw with ap5! Oh the times i could have...
evil_bryan
Overkill Assembled! After one final late night assembly session, I was able to finish the last 15 Acolytes from the Overkill sets. Now that they are complete, it is time to move on to the next step in the assembly process. :)
evil_bryan
Time for another update! After spending most of the weekend working on hobby tasks, I was able to assemble all 5 boxes of Acolytes. :) I focused on building special weapons to compliment the existing Acolytes and building some to be Hybrid Metamorphs. Now, I will start work on the last two Neophyte boxes.

evil_bryan
Phase One Done! (almost) With the last two Neophyte boxes opened and assembled, I have reached an important milestone in this project. Every box pictured at the beginning of this process have been assembled (mostly.) Riding the wave of assembly, I have also completed an additional Neophyte squad from a box of Cadians (with the Genestealer upgrade sprue.) Over the years, I have been a long proponent of drilling out gun barrels on models and this project will be no exception. Looks like there are 132 models in need, so it's time to charge up the Dremel. :)

evil_bryan
Do you drill out lasguns? Kinda picture them with a lens on the end of barrel, not a drilled out hole. Since Lascannons have hollow barrels rather than lenses, lasguns get drilled out too. I'm sure there are lenses, but imagine they are in the rifle. Also, I think it looks much better. :)
WestRider
It would make sense to have the lens back a little way in the barrel, to keep it from getting cracked or otherwise damaged by hitting things.
Chappy
Can you two stop making sense please. You're ruining my immersion. ;)

evil_bryan
With a fully charged Dremel, I went full Palin tonight. All models are drilled and ready for the next step. Damn, I am running out things to do before I will be forced to paint something. :o
andozane
Why do you think I moved on to assembling Horus Heresy models instead of Deathwatch....if I finish them all someone will say "paint them" :( :)
evil_bryan
Time for a massive update....PAINT!!! I figure I would start with the bases. Because it was pretty involved, I started a new thread for the basing project. You can find it at: http://www.ordofanaticus.com/index.php?/topic/29470-sector-imperialis-bases/
