It is time to start purchasing and painting your miniatures.

I am happy to report that our named sponsors are once again on board for supporting the tournament.  This is good news for all of us.  it means planning can now begin in earnest, if a bit later than we wished, for the highest paying tournament in all of Western Washington... and beyond.

Your continued support for it has been a gratifying labor of love for me, and I hope that continues.  Details will be coming but I just wanted to make you aware of the development.

The Tournament had typically been scheduled for the end of October.  We won't be able to make that deadline, so have your ears to the ground and we will let you know sooner than later.  Formally we don't anticipate that news will be coming until sometime after October 8th while we work on technical issues.

What we can tell you now:

We anticipate that attendance will justify a two day event.  We were quite close to that last year and missed it by a mere four attendees.  In addition this year the ITC has certainly done a lot to help promote these events far and wide, so we will in all likelihood make this an ITC event.  Understand that certain restrictions particular to this event will differ from the ITC rules and of course those will be posted, but rest assured that you will receive ITC points commensurate with a major event should we fill both brackets.  So recruiting people now is a good idea.  The more attendees you bring, the more points it is worth to you.  That will not matter to everyone but it is something to consider by those to whom it does.  Moreover the freebies and food alone is worth it, let alone the fun and the prizes (and I cant stress enough how good those have been over the years).

We can also tell you that there will likely be a seeding round.  This is new for our tournament and should allow people to have an even better time than previous years.  Not only does it allow you to "warm up" without affecting your standings, but it also assures that we can continue to provide the experience of never playing the same army twice, which is one of the the hallmarks of our event that encourages all comers lists.  Between that and the mission design, there is great optimism that the lists will be balanced and representative, as they should be for true Ambassadors of their codex.

Play with pride.  Good luck Ambassadors.

If it's like last time, the "minor" factions won't be allowed. Unless he's completely changing the setup and limitations of the tournament.

I would love to see some "clumping" of some of the minor Factions. Let Eldar or Dark Eldar take Harlequins, have Skitarii, Cult Mechanicus, and possibly even Knights be taken together, GSC with Nids or Guard, but not both, stuff like that.

It's a discussion we have every year, am I right?

16 codex's are what will be represented by their worthy Ambassadors.  There are currently 14 truly DISTINCTIVE codexs (if you count Adeptus Mechanicus collectively as one) to fill 16 slots.  They are:

Adepta Sororitas

Adeptus Astartes: Space Marines

Adeptus Astartes:  Space Wolves

Adeptus Mechanicus (both books combined)

Astra Militarum

Chaos Daemons

Chaos Space Marines

Dark Eldar

Eldar

Grey Knights

Necrons

Orks

Tau Empire

Tyranids

Then there's everyone else, or their variants.  There are many more "off shoots" than slots to take them.  The goal in any event is to be Ambassadors for pure forces of our respective faction, so that the faction itself is on trial.  Off shoots are of secondary importance to that goal.

Every year we have generally included two of those "others" such as Militarum Tempestus.  We have had to choose, and generally the choice was made easy by personal conversations with people who told me they would definitely play them if I chose it.  But a lot of people come to me now in that same way.  In the end I have to make a decision and really, there's only two slots I consider "open", given this list of obvious inclusions.

Interestingly, that leaves a big list of Codex's on the bubble.  Chaos Daemonkin, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Deathwatch, Inquisition, Harlequins, Imperial Knights, Renegade Knights, Militarum Tempestus, Officio Assassinorum and Genestealer Cults.  A much larger list than it used to be.

Obviously there is some wiggle room.  For example, If someone chose Chaos Daemons, I can easily allow them the choice to play Daemonkin instead.  As soon as you start talking allies though, I get a lot less excited.  That's not the point of the exercise.  I think the exception is the Adeptus Mechanicus which has had a lot of support by people to be played that way, for all the obvious reasons.  They really are only a complete force when put together, and because of the "all comers" mission design, it's even necessary.

We'll be thinking hard about it though.

GSC is a complete codex now with something in every slot HQ, elite, troop, fast, and heavy. it doesn't need to be folded in. Getting a army painted bye that time is another question though.

Fixed my previous post.

Anywho, if two someones came to me and said they would absolutely have a fully painted Gene Stealer Cult army by then, complete with list in hand, that would certainly be a good choice as it is complete.  We've been able to find Militarum Tempestus players so why not right?  It is also different ENOUGH to be its own thing and I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not we can fill those two slots (one for each Bracket)  As you say, would someone be willing or able?  We'll see, but I don't dislike the idea of it happening, that's for sure.

Will there be any restrictions on formations?

In the past players have been allowed three detachments total, one of which must be a Combined Arms Detachment. You can then take additional CADs, allied detachments, or formations to fill up your other two slots. This makes some things (such as free transports from a Battle Company) impossible to use as it requires more than two formations.

Why would you keep Blood and Dark Angels out?

Because in their opinion, BA and DA are a "minor variant" that represents the Space Marines. The Space Wolves are apparently divergent enough that they get their own slot.

I like the idea of an Ambassador Tournament. Maybe with a unique CAD for just this tournament?

As a pure BA player, that makes me incredibly sad. Oh well.

Are we just going to assume that triple wraithknight is going to win again? Or is there going to be something in place to inhibit that?

That is an illegal list for the Ambassadorial Tournament and has been every year but one.  That was due to a miscommunication with our website guy and unfortunately someone did take advantage of it which was entirely on me.  You won't see that in future tournaments.

As my post indicates...  There are two codex slots left and decisions to be made on them, among the remaining codex we could choose.  We haven't made that decision.  Until we do, no one has been "left out".

EDIT:  As I also mentioned, I am sure this will come down to personal conversations wherein people PM me or talk to me and i know I have absolute commitments from players to take those slots.  Again, I'd love for GeneStealer Cult to be one of them, that's for sure, but that isn't something i can force.  So if you are committed to coming and definitely want to become the Ambassador of an "off shot" codex's as i kind of referred to them, I'm all ears of course.

You can see all about past tournaments here:  http://40kambassadors.com/rules.php

A unique...CAD?  Do you mean a Detachment?  I'm intrigued by the suggestion but can you expand on that idea?
