  1. I talked to the organizer of the Bolt Action game day they had in Aurora (near Canby, Oregon) the other day and they said they are just starting to plan for another game day in February. He decided to skip a January event due to Covid stuff going around anew. When I know more I will make a new post about the event. -d
  2. Looking at Elegoo's numbers (currently using their resins myself - Water wash and ABS like) their optimal setting is 25ºC-30ºC (77ºF - 86ºF) ... which is probably an adjustment I need to make on my set up - I think my heater doesn't go on till 71-72 lol. REF Doc -d
  3. Hmmm I think my low temp trigger is around 71 - and the fan doesn’t go on to help cool till 80 I think. I’ll have to look tomorrow at my meter settings. But I think I got those numbers from a user group or one of the resin manufacturers. but - true - I’ve had a bad bottle before as well. interested in how this turns out. -d
  4. Is your printer in a heated room? I have had issues when the temp has dipped... I have both my printers in a heated enclosure and still at times have issues - I tried normal (non water washable) and got better results. Although I was getting great results about the end of November - before things got to be a real winter (cold / freezing temps). With some minor tweaks to my exposure settings and bumping up the temps in my enclosure I have started getting some success (with non-water wash). I will go back to water wash resin when things get warmer and I have a longer track record of success with my current settings. I also have 3-4 bottles of resin staying at temp in my enclosure lol. Resin printing has been really finicky for me when it gets cold. My set up is in my detached garage - insulation is questionable - so it does get chilly. I have started to leave on a electric furnace when I am printing over night to help out with the heater in the enclosure. best of luck. -d
  5. yes - I think we can --- just looking through my bfg box and I am not seeing any Orks - I think these would be a good starter force. -d
  6. Hmmmm may be interested- I’ll look through what I have today
  7. I hear good things about these paints ... Pro Acryl by Monument Hobbies... but I have not tried them yet. Waiting ... currently out of stock on some sets. https://monumenthobbies.com/collections/pro-acryl-paints
  8. DANM ad popping in there lol... lol. Thanks for the heads up... fixed Heroes Infinite Eldar Patreon
  9. I have lots of paints... 2/3 are GW - My biggest gripe is the pots lol. I have picked up an army painter set for my airbrushing - which are pretty nicely set up with tri-shades. I have moved probably half of my favorite GW paints from their damn pots to dropper bottles over the last couple years. -d
  10. meh... the guardians were already plastic - would have been nice to see other units pulled out of the metal age ... but come on... did you all see the Heroes Infinite "Eldar" from their November 2021 Patreon? VID - compelled me to pay up... and I haven't played Eldar in 40k in about a year LOL -d
  11. Army painter sets are a nice starting point - they are coming out with a new set of “contrast paints” soon as well which would be a good start as well. If your just getting back to painting- I’d really suggest looking into an airbrush- just for priming in the winter is a great step. Also look up zeinthial priming on YouTube to see some pretty good techniques to prime your figures that make the rest of the painting go easier. (Especially with contast paints, inks or washes). -d
  12. As a long time Eldar player... this isn't giving me anything to feel like going back to play 40k. -d
  13. I got mine - I now have my stargrave minis.
  14. Cool - I will be keeping my eyes out for any tourneys after I get my armies built (Norman & Vikings) - and my son and I will practice down here south of Portland. Unfortunately, Monday nights up i5/205 would be prohibitive to my sanity lol. -d
  15. Looked like a fun tourney - hope everyone had fun. I dropped in with my son around 1:30 to see things finishing up on round #1. I thank you for putting up with gawkers. I went home and finished working on my factions - got to do some basing then some priming - but the game looked fun and I think I have convinced my son to give it a go. -d
  16. I agree with this assessment - although I never read the books (not my type of fantasy... just never appealed to me)... Maybe it would have - but in the 1980's I was pretty deep into Elric (or anything Moorecock), Conan and comics lol. -d
  17. I had trouble with Shannara... the last season was practically unwatchable lol. I long long ago read the first book... name recognition was about all I could remember lol. But THAT show was very CW ... pretty faces... weak ... I MEAN WEAK acting... and pre-2000's BBC-esq special effects lol -d
  18. its about the $ - they make money - that is the only calculus they need. The name recognition will seemingly give it legitimacy to those folks whom vaguely have heard of the books - and it sounds nice enough to the marketing team... and the story although loosely (or very loosely) followed is unique enough to buy rather than paying someone to make a facsimile of the story without being the story lol... (no need for defense lawyers if you buy the rights to it.) I am not sure as to the real numbers / facts or percentages - but I doubt book sales of folks having seen a show - then wanting to buy the books - is the target reasoning to making the show in the first place. I find it doubtful its even a consideration within the planning. Unfortunately - the basics of this is - the diehard / pissed off fans - aren't enough of a concern when compared to the advertising and streaming dollars they will make from having a fantasy show to compete with the other networks fantasy shows. GoT made big money for HBO... Amazon, Netflix and others jumped on the fantasy show band wagon ... and went out at purchased rights to fantasy stories ... in hopes of getting more of that fantasy show money. If the show gets renewed... they made some money for amazon... enough for amazon to roll the dice for another season. it is a different medium - so shows will always have a hard time matching up to a book series - you have to make adjustments or changes just to get meat of the story on screen and keeping it under budgetary restraints. -d
  19. The old or existing fans of the original work are not typically the target audience… they will get more folks watching the show (and advertising) than ever were really familiar with the books. Also, they (Amazon in this case) didn’t make any money from the original works - so those fans - really sent part of the calculation. If any of the new viewers are interested to dig into the books - that’s a bonus to whomever owns those book rights - not this media version. Bottom line - they (the streaming media company)make money doing it this way - and the small fraction of disgruntled book fans don’t really register in these calculations.
  20. that is an awesome perspective ... the different turning of the wheel - I love that explanation. I have not read the books - and don't intend to. -d
  21. This is pretty much the majority of what is done these days -big money media company buys rights to something - and do what they will with it (regardless of initial fan base) (looking at you Disney). they get it “wrong” most of the time according to the diehard fans. but it’s really another type of media - and the aim is to draw in fans who may never had heard of the original work. It’s a new version- and it is for a new audience… If the original content owner didn’t want to cash in on the creation… It wouldn’t have gotten purchased and remade. -d
  22. I have the played a couple demos with the rules - I have yet to try out the new expansion tho. It is fun - solo game - entertaining. Model agnostic - so you can pretty much pay it with whatever you have on hand. -d
