  1. There is probably an easy solution for simple bases whereby you you just orient the current base on a 32mm disc and base around it. Highly decorative bases (which everyone should aspire to) would be a real pain.
  2. So I got the figures. They are about marine-sized so now I need a stand in for terminator figures. Let me know if you see anything that looks promising.
  3. So I've started putting these together and they aren't large enough to be terminators. I think they will need to count for ordinary marines instead. So, I need to find a figure to stand in for termies and I need to re assess army list choice to reflect this. Blood Angels seem like a good bet. Do the specialist marine forces still have access to vanilla marine gear for the most part?
  4. A good option for saving cash is to buy the foam by itself and find a cheap deal on a pistol or rifle case. Many are virtually identical to game cases.
  5. I would check Pretres thread on bartertown. He might have some second hand case bargain.
  6. It never really worked well for me. It's difficult to assemble painted components. What I prefer is partial assembly. Attach legs and torso. Assemble arms if necessary and pin everything to a stick separately. Clean all flash and mold lines. Prime and paint on sticks. Scrape paint away from the portions where they are joined.
  7. Yep. Not the crazy complicated ones. Just the basics. This one snaps together with no glue.
  8. Oh, for what its worth I ordered a heroforge model shortly after the app was launched. It's comparable to the nicer resin figures you can buy. There wasn't anything to file or sand off of my model. I do recommend paying close attention to the scaling. The default human size is 25 and they aren't scaled heroically so unless you make them big they will look small next to GW figures.
  9. I'll be using the head and torso from this figure as the basis for the dreadnoughts.
  10. I ordered two of this kit. Probably only going to use the head and torso.
  11. Fun. I definitely see the resemblance to grey knights. Also a similarity in theme. That might be the ticket. I'm enthused to get some practice games in.
  12. Also, if anyone finds any good bets for a counts-as dreadnought with similar styling let me know. (I'm not crazy about the DF giant robot kits)
  13. Good stuff. Thanks guys. I've always liked the idea of taking a chaos force and spinning it around to follow order instead. The actual army list doesn't really matter so much. I'm all about the fluff. I think my dudes are devotees of Arianka Goddess of order and discipline who is entombed in a crystalline coffin by an unnamed Chaos God much to the consternation of her celestial lover Alluminas God of everlasting light. There is probably a way to work in the third wheel Solkan, God of vengeance and retribution. I like the idea of crazy armored warriors who are really just animated specters of a cosmic love triangle. Maybe some future unabomber type character has fused arcane technology with a feudalistic poltergeist goon squad in order seize illegitimate mineral rights in some poorly patrolled imperial backwater. More on that later. I'm mainly relying on these dreamforge figures that I found on sale. Thing is, these guys are on 40mm bases so I'm hoping for a list that lets me take something of equivalent size as a troops choice. I'm also hoping for suggesting for a model to convert as a dreadnought. I like the contemptor figure well enough but I'm weird and want something more obscure. Maybe a gundam or something like that. Thanks!
  14. Awesome. Thanks. I'll try to make tuesday.
  15. In a fit of terrible judgment I bought some miniatures yesterday. I'm thinking I need a small 40k for reasons. Probably just two or three squads of infantry and a couple dreads. My desired concept is the lords of order from the old fantasy lore. Focus is assault. Now I haven't played since about Rogue Trader era so I know exactly nothing. I was hoping to get a little direction as to which list might work best. Say I want two assault squads, a support squad, an assault dread and a support dread. What army do you recommend? What else do I need to know?
  16. I may be able to help. Our shop has many crates of magic cards, many from the first printings. We don't specialize in miniatures but we do barter for pretty much anything game related. I'm pretty certain we'd have all the cards you are looking for. It's out in Beaverton. Msg to Facebook.com/retrogametrader
  17. I do sometimes mix paint as well but that's quite different. Paint doesn't just darken it reduces the effect of the metallic flecks much more dramatically than ink. Sometimes this is the effect I want but not always.
  18. It's just India ink which dries somewhat glossy if you apply straight to a figure. I don't really know of any matte finish inks. Just a tiny drop though. It will significantly darken the paint even at 20 to 1. Normally I want my metallics to have significant luster anyway.
  19. I like mixing a drop of black ink with my metallic paint for the first layer.
  20. In a terrible lapse of judgment I was considering acquiring a small 40k force just so I can hang with the kids at game night without feeling awkward. I was looking at maybe getting some models from Dreamforge games and was wondering if anyone had experience with them. They look pretty clean in the photos. Thanks!
  21. Did someone say Narcos yet? It's a pretty good pastiche of standard cop drama spliced with newsreels for an authentic feel. They cast the recognizable characters pretty well. Nothing ground breaking but if you like Scarface or Miami Vice or stuff of that oeuvre and want a longer, based-on-real-events story you'd probably be into it.
