Lol...just picturing your marines trying to outshoot the TAU..with sniper rifles of all things....Can't stop laughing at that. Melee, Ish, melee. Don't try to stand and shoot when facing the TAU. Even your weakest SM scout will butcher firewarriors in melee, but SM will all die if you decide to play the ranged game.

Ish
The Stalker Bolt Rifle squad provides covering fire, while the Bolt Rifle squads use bounding overwatch to advance into position, before the Assault Bolt Rifle squads engage for close-quarters combat. These are the sorts of elementary basics even a mere Guardsman can learn, since his mind isn’t clouded by perfidious xenos notions like “Diplomacy” and “Greater Good.”

Lord Hanaur
On 12/28/2018 at 11:14 AM, paxmiles said: Thanks. I wasn't thinking it was a bad loadout, but sometimes others see things I don't see, so it's useful to know why they do things. So on my end of reasoning with the various upgrades: Regarding burst cannons, I was never considering the Airbursts on this model, I mentioned them because I want their bits for other models. I'm torn between the flamers and burst cannons. Flamers got a point reduction, so are the cheaper option. And auto-hit makes people reconsider charges. Definitely like the Drone Controller upgrade. Shield I'm torn on. It's +40pts to already expensive model. For SM this would be an easy buy, but TAU have lots of really cheap stuff, and ultimately, most things are a glass cannon. So still on the fence here. So the Shotgun (Pulse Blastcannon) is a tough one because I'm running Dal'yth. I agree, it does seem like the better choice, but it encourages me to move, and moving means lower armor saves for Dal'yth. It does reliably have more shots than the the other option and has similar range to it's other weapons. Advanced targeting system is one I'm not really liking. I mean, extra -1 ap on all weapons is a neat extra, but it depends on the opponent. For example the Pulse Driver is already -3 ap. Making it -4 ap will really only matter against models with a 2+ save that don't also have a better invulnerable save. The destroyer missiles don't benefit from it. All the other weapons on the Stormsurge are -0 ap base, so improving them is like deny orks their t-shirts and it really matter much in my eyes. Seems like the weapon it would really matter on is the Pulse Blastcannon, as it has a variable ap. The Early Warning system appeals, especially paired with the pulse blastcannon. The velocity tracker seems like a decent idea. Multitracker seems like it's merit is only if don't field markerlights. Target lock is mostly useless due to the Walking battleship rule Counterfire defense system seems iffy, but could have merit just due to the sheer volume of shots on the stormsurge. Pulse driver Cannon is a weird one, and frankly rather lackluster for such an expensive model. But that said, if I stick with Dal'yth and don't move, it is the weapon with the most range. In reality youll be moving the stormsurge once if at all in 90% of your games. Flamers wont come up much either because there should be little chance that you'll allow anyone that close. Its just so easy to avoid it. Flamers only EVER advantage you on overwatch. You can lose 16-24 shots worrying about overwatch. Meh. Shields are enormously useful. Shields dont just bounce 1 damage. They bounce D6 damage quite often!!! A degraded stormsurge is a problem. So giving it heals from stratagems (in both player turns) plus shields... its a wise expenditure. The main cannon is totally debatable for sure. All i can say is that i love the shotgun. If youre not drone shooting heavy (I am) then velocity tracker is definitely not a bad idea

Guest
I'm on the bus/max, so going across town to *maybe* find a model I want isn't very appealing. Was about to buy one via amazon, and then I noticed the shipping times. Seems that amazon ships these from Japan....so those 3d printed arms have near identical shipping times (about 1 month). So now I'm thinking about converting up my own arm option.
