PumpkinHead
I get off the plane and walking through the terminal I see a McDonalds. I figure, it's just an airport thing. After getting to my hotel I get the chance to walk around outside and there is a 7_11, Starbucks, subway, and a McDonalds all with in a few blocks of my hotel.

AgentP
I lived in Korea back in the mid 90s. Even then it was pretty saturated with McDonalds, etc., although there were still things you could not find. A couple days before I left country I turned down a road I had been within a block of at least a hundred times and there in front of me, like a shining beacon on a hill, was a KFC. I hadn't had a potato in over a year. Those were the best mashed potatoes and gravy I've ever had. What part of Korea you in?
WestRider
I had a similar experience in Germany. Get out of the airport, find the bus to downtown, get off, and right in front of me there's a Dunkin Donuts and a McDonald's.

crono
Netflix doesn't work here. Netflix for copyright reasons, is location sensitive. Just VPN to your work domain state-side, and you'll be fine.
intrizic
i don't know if they've survived but when I was there the video game arcades were a lot of fun. At least hit one Pachinko parlor

dashneeb
And here I was going to joke that Netflix didn't work there because it would detract from all the League of Legends and Starcraft II bandwidth...
PumpkinHead
It is very true. 3/4 of the test engineers I have talked to play either LoL or SC2. Korea has a tv channel dedicated to e sports. Man, I am not normally a seafood person but I have decided not to starve. Their traditional food is very tasty. I have also had the pleasure of eating in the traditional way for dinners. Cross legged at tables only like 10 inches off the floor. Man do my legs hurt after a meal. We had Korean BBQ last night, best freak in food on the planet!

DisruptiveConduct
In south korea, it is totally acceptable to take a "traveler" wherever you are going. This. changed. everything.
Prophecy
I lived in Yeosu for a year. It really changed me as a person for sure. Seoul was so amazing as you can never run out of things to do. Cold kimchi though is just a no in my book.
PumpkinHead
Really? It has never been offered. But then again they make sure we have plenty to drink while eating. Had a traditional beer ish substance today. It was pretty good. Since today was a slew boring day of testing they took us to Sudeoksa temple. Which has some fascinating history.

When I did Korean BBQ there you cooked it at your table on the bucket of hot coals that sat in the middle. I hope it hasn't changed a bit. Also where I discovered egg and cheese ramyun, preferably Shin.
PumpkinHead
Korean BBQ is still the same, we have not had ramyun.
