I want to know why the frakk the lascannons aren't twin-linked.  

 

Regardless, it screams Knight-hunter to me.

 

 

Well, point and kill, really.

 

 

GK could run dual NSF with the Mastodon, a Strike Squad, and a Lvl 3 Librarian.  Can you take the Techmarines as a Dedicated HQ?  If so, do that instead, heh, a couple in one, one in the other.

2 Lvl 3 Libbies

2 Techmarines

7 Termies

2 Venerable Dreads

Mastodon

2 Dreadknights

 

Everything but the DKs are in the Mastodon.

Love this rule:

Reinforced Shell: The Mastodon is designed to withstand withering punishment and endure, and is fitted with a reinforced inner armour shell
as well as considerable special defensive measures around its reactor core and munitions stores. As a result, if it is Destroyed,
reduce the roll made on the Catastrophic Damage table by -2. If the result rolled is actually ‘0’ or ‘-1’ after this modifier is
taken into account, the Mastodon does not Explode, but it instead becomes a broken shell (note that it still counts as being
destroyed for the purpose of Victory points or any relevant mission objectives however). Any models transported inside suffer
an immediate Strength 4 hit – Vehicles are struck on their weakest Armour value. From this point onwards, its shell is treated

as a ruined building rather than a vehicle wreck, with its two doorways counted as being open access points to the interior.

 

This would be a great way to balance Land Raiders in the current meta.

Erm. The problem with land Raiders is not that the explode for S10 AP2 hits on their occupants, it's that there are fair too many categories of weapons (Melta, Haywire, Destroyer, etc) that can easily destroy them without much regard to their stats.

Totally agree, but the issue there is that the LR point cost is balanced, more or less, with the rest of the game. So They can't really increase or decrease in point cost, and I don't think giving them more abilities to improve durability or offensive power would be fair without affecting the point cost. An ability, like this one, that affects the viability of their role as a transport, while not actually giving them any improvements while alive and on the table, that is a viability option without need to increase points.

 

A destroyed Land Raider being treated as ruins, rather than a wreck or a crater, would be pretty useful for keeping the transported LR's contents alive after their land raider is destroyed. I'd suggest a modified version of the above, where an exploded land raider only explodes on a 4+ (still destroyed). And destroyed, but not exploded land raiders, become ruins instead of wrecks.

 

Would make Land Raiders much more viable, while not actually needing to improve their point costs.

Compared to other transports in the game, Land Raiders should be about 100 pts.  Maybe 125.

Unfortunately, the LR would have to lose some AV and HP for that to happen. Besides, Predator Annihilators are looking at 140pts for 2 lascannons and one TL lascannon on a -1 HP chasis with significantly reduced armor on all sides, plus no transport option. A stock Land raider has better weapons (Two TL lascannons and a TL heavy bolter).

 

The issue with LRs is as AbusePuppy said, it's a matter of the many weapons that have been made commonplace which ignore the stats of the model. The LR is well balanced for the stats that it has.
