Thor: Ragnarok: Let me put it like this: I was making plans with friends to go see it again before I even left the theater. Best "one on many" fights since the Last Alliance flashbacks with Sauron in LotR, and better than Ang Lee's Hulk or The Amazing Spiderman at showing the raw power these people are throwing around. I'm gonna have Immigrant Song stuck in my head for weeks :D

It is the Big Trouble in Little China of superhero movies.

Thor: ugh, how can I put this? Disappointed. I'm probably going to see it again because I saw it with a friend and my wife wants to see it. It isn't awful or anything like that (aka Tomb Raider or Inhumans). But sweet jesus, did they have to go three stooges with it? Marvel had always been great about providing an action drama with good bits of comedy. Well now they did a comedy with some action and a few bits of drama. I liked the old formula better. That rock guy is 100 times worse than Jar Jar ever was. Nuff said.

Finally someone who agrees with me. I honestly thought myself and my wife were the only ones who thought it was a little too childish. I’m all for humour but it was a bit too much and some of it detracted from the lack of depth in the film. If it hadn’t been for Kate Blanchet who I thought was awesome it would of been pretty dire! Totally agree it felt like a half assed comedy with some action in it and not the normal fit. I give it a 4/10 purely based on how well Blanchet did.

Colossal - Really good, really funny, really uncomfortable at times.

4/5 Kaiju

It was surprisingly entertaining, I agree with 4/5

I'm in the camp of people who enjoyed Ragnarok.  It's sillier than the other Thor films in the franchise, but after the disappointment that was Thor 2 it was refreshing to see them go in a different direction.  Frankly at this point I'm happy just to be entertained by Marvel movies, whether or not they stick to one formula or another.

OK, I didn't actually watch it (basically no one did), but I thought this was a reasonable place to mention that a new record has been set for Worst Opening Weekend ever. The winner (loser?) is Amityville: The Awakening, with a total weekend box office of $742.

To be fair, box office sales came in at double the budget.

Boy: 8/10

Really touching, funny, coming of age story about a young boy in New Zealand and his deadbeat dad.  Really worked for me having grown up in the country without a lot of adult supervision, and having an absent father. Also by the director of Ragnorok!

Swiss Army Man: 9/10

I can't explain why I love this movie so much. It's one of the strangest films I have ever, ever seen. It manages to be simultaneously incredibly stupid and really touching. I think it might be a work of genius. Or maybe it's garbage. I can't tell, but I love it.

Silent Hill: Surprisingly good. It is a video game adaptation, and you have to bear that in mind (there was one scene in particular that was so obviously pulled straight from a jumping puzzle, and there's a big infodump near the end), but within that context it's really pretty good. Excellent atmosphere, some of the characters are actually fantastic, and the main plot actually holds together quite well. Apparently the original script didn't have most of Sean Bean's arc, and I think it would have been stronger without that, as those scenes felt tacked on. I'd be curious to see an edit without those parts if someone's done it somewhere.

Martyrs 2008 Original French Version

Holy cow what a mind bleep. I remember seeing the trailer a while ago and thinking it would be cool to check out, then got reminded of it again on a list of movies on youtube thing. Revenge horror flick. Goes wrong...very wrong...so many ways.

Rating - 7/10 - Little slow at times

Shock Rating - 9/10

Justice League - 7/10 for the movie, 9/10 for Gal Galdot in leather pants. I think the issue was that it was a little rushed. They had three intros to do for characters, and yet somehow put in a plot that required everyone to be there. So okay for a DC movie. Marvel just does it better. Probably because they actually have a plan. If you really really really like DC, then go see this movie. If superhero flicks are just okay for you, you can probably wait for the at home release.

Ace Ventura Pet Detective

3/5, maybe less. I liked it, but I did find some of the humor to be less enjoyable than when I saw it at age 15. Plot was very good, all things considered. Jim Carrey, so lots of visual gags and abstract sillyness. Like Animaniacs or Freaksoid, but with a much more substancial plot. Lots of cliches, but overall, it fit together in both setting and characters and made for a real film.

Ace Ventura When Nature Calls

2/5. They clearly determined that the humor of the original was more important than the setting fitting together with the characters. I also enjoyed this one, but it was worse as a film. Feels more like a cartoon, with a plot equal to the quality you'd expect from Scooby Do....Funny, but nothing more. A comedy, but not a real film. Reminded me of a Porno, where the plot is existing as pretense for watching the characters do things - in this case, it's Jim Carrey's sillyness.

Just re-watched The Force Awakwns for the first time since seeing it in the theater in anticipation of Ep 8 on Thursday.

It actually held held up really well and I found myself enjoying the new characters more than I had remembered.  The pacing was solid despite the occasionally clunky dialogue.

Most importantly, it was fun.  Which was made it feel like Star Wars to me.

Cannot wait for The Last Jedi.

And The Last Jedi did not disappoint.

I like my Star Wars to be fun and full of big moments.  It had that and more.

Good times, looking forward to viewing number two.
