  1. Saw this game and the models look really cool. How is the gameplay? Variety? Tactics? Balance? Anyone want to share their thoughts? Anyone playing or demoing the game in the Portland area do I can watch? Thanks.
  2. Looks good! What wash/dip did you use on those demigryphs?
  3. Great work! I'm envisioning a small and subtle street sign or window sign (in Russian) lying somewhere atop that rubble.
  4. I'm an experienced player and referee at many events. eblingus offers a fair, although incomplete and not entirely accurate assessment of the game. A well-upgraded larger ship is capable of destroying a smaller ship in a single attack. Fair enough. Two ships of equal power will not be able "one shot" each other without some sort of lucky trickery which is not commonplace. It's true STAW battles are usually 2 or 3 ships on a side. In STAW tournaments more games go the 60-minute duration while trading shots and end closely (or end in a tie) THAN end after 10 minutes because one player got shot off the map in a round or two. But what he doesn't mention is the plethora of damage cancellation and avoidance cards as upgrades too, which brings the game a richness that goes beyond Captain Skill and "who shot first". Additionaly the number of Factions (Federation, Klingon, Romulan, etc) is huge so comparitavely there are more options in STAW than XWing. I like both games but I feel like STAW has more strategy and complexity to it and favor it. What XWing DOES have is better models, but WizKids in improving. In "wave 3" out this month, the paint jobs are vastly improved over earlier ships.
  5. My earlier post was very silly. Probably if you're being serious you should look up a Norse name you like and goin with that. However I REALY DO think that this would be an awesome sentence to paint on the front of a Baneblade in smallish, but readable letters.
  6. Loose Seal Come On! You've Made a Huge Mistake Marry Me! Ring it Up With the Dong Tea Hermano I'm Joining Army
  7. A PCS (or better yet a CCS that is not your warlord) with Melta Guns has a useful purpose as an expendable delivery system for Str 8 API1 wounds. If I knew I was going to shoot at a Riptide, I'd prefer Plasma, but of course you don't know that, and Melta is cheaper and higher strength and more useful "all around". Addition of the commisar and close combat elements is a waste of points IMHO. I'm saying this as a 2.5 year guardsman player.
  8. CaptainA made some for me over two years ago. It's been great up to last summer but has lost it's magic now and doesn't find receses well anymore. FYI. Use it or lose it. Does it have to be airbrush paint? Can you just thin regular Vallejo paint?
  9. I really like this concept. If you are looking for "space/star camo" I think it will be hard to make black "pop" without white or bluish highlights. Here's one thing I tried, which is to deliberately turn down the PSI of my airbrush compressor very low, to like ... 10psi. This produces tiny dots. The effect worked well on some of my camo cloaks for Guard snipers and might work for "stars on a carapace"?
  10. Great ideas guys. Thanks to Gareth I do have some dark eldar bits to spice things up. Moving the legs (by sawing the knees) seems relatively straightforward so I'll give that a try. Thanks!
  11. As you know the Warp Spider models all strike the same pose. As the soon to be proud owner of at least 7 metal ones, does anyone have any ideas for reposing a few of them in (relatively) simple ways? It would be nice to break the monotony.
  12. Confirmed. Wall of Martyrs - Aquila StrongpointStill $115 USD.
  13. Month 6 of the "dominion war" scenario comes to a close on Mar 15, Sat, at 1pm. Each participant will get a free prize, which this time is a "federation fighter squadron" which is a cool new mechanic and ship you canNOT but in stores. Signup online at www.wizkidseventsystem.com or at the "Portland Attack Wing Captains" facebook group. There will be a "Borg" scenario starting this summer and two "original series" scenarios in April and May most likely. All offer free prizes.
  14. Thanks for the bitz swap. I bought a few cool things. I felt like there were more sellers than buyers. If the next one is held during or around Ofcc we will have more action.
  15. I'll be at the bitz swap this Sat at 1ish. Not much to trade but do have cash. Of possible interest to you: a bunch of IG bits, figures, and tanks at deep discount Star Trek Attack Wing participation prizes (that players get from tournaments): flagship cards, command tokens, etc. Definitely interested in your single Wolf Guard with Combi-melta. Possibly interested in: a few of the Battlemechs, a squad of Warp Spiders, Windrider Jetbikes.
  16. <snark>What an incredible power! So clearly worded! This guy needs to give the GW authors a lesson on writing rules.</snark>
  17. I have 4 plus exarch. The exarch's weapon has been broken and pinned back on, then broken again. Have tried stripping with simple green but it wasn't enough. Understand if it's not appealing but it's what I've got. Can bring to Wow 2/15 bitz swap.
  18. Hello Cannon! Light the fuse and give them big load of HELLO in the face!
  19. Suggest you come to the bits swap 2/15 at WoW. Look for directions in the 40k forum here
  20. The phrase that jumped out at me most after reading this entire thread... "...playing with like minded individuals..." I think this is key for enjoyment of the game. I also think you must be type of person enjoys building and painting to enjoy 40k in the long run, regardless of the types of games you like to play.
  21. Seller "window_box" on eBay has treated me right several times.
  22. Was in the guardian bitz box a couple weeks ago. Hover horse?
  23. I have 12 rough rider models, two of which are outfitted with flamers and the rest with lances. I've played them many times and they always make me happy to field even though they are destroyed the majority of the time before they can be even marginally useful. If I could I would play them every game. Rough riders represent to me all that is good about the Imperial Guard and 40k in general. They are a totally gung-ho, utterly expendable expression of ineffective inginuity. They are an effective charge unit against: any model with Armor 3 or higher that is incapable of shooting them to pieces during overwatch or before they get with charge range that cannot withstand the inital "onslaught" of a dozen or two I5, AP3, Str5, WS3 attacks before pounding the horses to bits round 2 Few opposing units meet this criteria - but that's fine, right? Because Rough Riders are so cheap and can even score objectives 1/6th of missions. If you don't like charging, you can put two special weapons on a minimum 5 model RR squad and use them as a highly mobile flamer or melta team (with a melta bomb) capable of moving 12" before dealing medicore amounts of damage. Play 30.
  24. Gosh those are cool looking Guard HWT! I am a fan of these and also Mantic's "the Corporation".
