Ordo Bowl Persistent League

I think you mean 4th edition, as this new release is the 5th edition of BB, according to wikipedia. Regardless, the first 3 editions of Bloodbowl had a boxed set release followed by another release (box in 1st and 3rd, pair of books in 2nd) with rules for leagues. The 4th edition box released in 2002, did have a single rulebook, covering all the rules, but that was primarily due to the fact that it was a Specialist Games re-release and not a full GW new edition release.

Got it. That must be the edition that I bought then because it did have everything in the rulebook.

Just a heads up for everyone. We will be starting the league back up In January, very likely Jan. 9th. I want to get my hands on the death zone book before posting up anything specific however. I have heard many interesting and good things coming from it.

Some things to expect:

  • 2 divisions (all current teams will likely start in the first division)
  • preset schedule at the start (to make my life, and yours easier)
  • Slightly quicker schedule meaning 2 games every 3 weeks.
  • Achievements!

I will be starting a list of coaches as well as soon as the rules are posted. Feel free to post up now if you want to participate however.

I'm in the new league. I will field a human, orc, or skaven team as I am going to stick with the new GW stuff. I haven't played since the mid 1980s but the new edition has inspired me to get back into the game.

When is the deadline to pick a team type and name?

You will have plenty of time. I mainly wanted to give everyone a heads up that a league will be starting after the Holidays and that I will try and get the rules up as soon as I can after the release. We will be using NAFbblm on ordobowl.com to track teams and matches. If you have not been there yet or used an obblm/nafbblm type website before feel free to make an account and poke around!

Cool. I'm definitely in to defend my bright, yellow title!

What about player trades & glittering prizes?

What are achievements?

  • 2 weeks later...

Looks like I posted this in the wrong thread. Reposting here:

I finally have Death Zone in my hands and am very excited about some of the things in the book. For others who have it, what are your thoughts? There are a lot of things to digest including expensive mistakes, returning players, and redrafting. Looking forward to hearing what players are thinking about the rules in Death Zone.

OH, one other thing the cards.  I noticed that not all the special play cards are released. in the rules for them they specifically mention you can only pick up one magic item card (a throwback to old 3rd edition).  But there are no magic item cards in the box, so either they have new ones coming out or the wording is a mistake (hold over from 3rd).

Bringing back the cards will really mess with the "pure" bloodbowl aspect the game has become over the last few editions.  The cards (although not as much as 3rd) can really change the game.  Several of them are TD stoppers.

Gutter Runners have Weeping Dagger. If they cause a Badly Hurt during a block, player is MNG on 4+ - I don't understand why they even bothered with this rule.  Seems superfluous & annoying.

Piling On moved to optional and needs Team Reroll to use - Same thing. It's like they just threw a dart at ideas on a board. This helps everyone that's not chaos/nurgle at high tv so...that's something I guess.

Human Catchers are 60k - BB2 ruling of making them 8av was more useful to humans in keeping them alive in a perpetual league. This doesn't seem like it helps the humans nearly as much beyond making them a better tv1000 roster.

No wizards - Not sure why on this one. The only team that really gets crippled by a wizard is khemri. I, personally, like having to position for a wizard & seeing people's playstyle change due to the threat of one. Not the hugest deal removing it but seems unnecessary.

I don't see any changes to Clawmb which is the one thing I was hoping to see changed.

Linewoman - Renamed to Tribal Linewoman - BULL[big bad swear word]! UTTER BULL[big bad swear word]! HOW DARE THEY!?!?

There is already an Errata regarding Piling On.

I am currently working through Death Zone and I really like some of the changes, some I am a little more skeptical on.

  • Re-Drafting and retiring players is something I like. Some way of bringing down the power level a little during leagues so new teams can compete is a great idea.
  • Expensive Mistakes seems like it will at least keep peoples treasury from getting to insane amounts and could encourage buying things that people would not before.
  • I am less excited about the cards as they can have a very big impact on the game. Making them a part of every game scares me a little, but I am trying to hold out judgement until I get more games under my belt with them. Like Burk said, we don't have all the cards yet which is a problem.
  • Having Friendlies played during a season is something I am also still trying to wrap my head around. I like the idea for newer teams, but I also fear that it creates an unfair advantage for people with more time than others.

The errata says what I stated : "You can use a team re-roll to re-roll the Armour roll or injury roll; if the blocking player has the Loner skill, they must roll as normal to see whether they can use the re-roll."

So it requires a team rr. It doesn't seem like a good or bad change which makes me wonder why change it at all if that's the case.

If they had removed modifiers for the PO Armor roll or removed modifiers for claw I would have thought it's an ok rule as it doesn't totally nerf high level mutation teams but still makes it a viable skill choice. As it stands, it just makes it a skill I don't think a lot of people will take now.

I am very interested in being in the league.  Having the schedule prepared before season starts will definitely help me be ale to get games done in my somewhat limited availability.  I don't think I'll be able to pick up the new box set or Death Zone, but from what I hear there aren't a lot of differences in core gameplay between the new set and LRB6 or Cyanide's BB2.  Looking forward to hearing about the league rules and playing in a league again.  I will either be playing my "pure insanity™" team or my "just might be competitive™" team depending on how stupid I'm feeling.

We would love to have you play. I am currently working on drafting up the rules now. Goal is to have them out in a week or so! Looking forward to seeing what team you play.
