evil_bryan
As I work on the FAQ for the event, you may have noticed there has been no mention yet of points. Historically, this has been a 2K event. Also historically, many people do not have a chance to finish their games within the allotted time. Since I love playing at 2K, I know my personal bias is to resist change. OFCC is a community event, so I thought it was appropriate to have a discussion with that community on thoughts/preferences/concerns etc. There is no right or wrong way to approach this, but its important to make your opinion known.
pretre
My list is already 2k, but I could easily cut it down. Lower points is more time for drinking.
DisruptiveConduct
With the game having six shooting phases, it does take longer to finish a 2k game. Yet, 2k means all the things are on the board. 1500 pts means you have to be choosey. Maybe 1750 wouldn't be too bad?
AgentP
I support 1500
fluger
I build 2k lists with OFCC in mind, but I think the current game really favors smaller point values for time sake. 1500 would be my vote.
Lord Hanaur
1500 gets the job done. I also like 1500. I never feel like its "less of a game" when I play 1500 either. Just as challenging. Just means less shenanigans are being used and that could never be a bad thing these days.
AbusePuppy
While I can certainly appreciate higher point levels in a casual event (because it lets players bring more of their cool toys), it definitely puts a lot of strain on players to finish in a timely fashion and I think that can work against the goals of OFCC, namely to have exciting and interesting matches for all involved. A lot of the best stories come out of the final turns of the game ("And I would've won, except that his one guardsman assaults Calgar on the objective and kills him!") and if you never get to that point, any potential for that drama is lost. Similarly, players that are having to hurry in order to have a reasonable chance at getting to the "proper" end of a match will not have as much time to joke, socialize, etc, with each other. For those reasons, I would like to see the event come down somewhat in points and/or increase the time allotted per match. I don't think anything less than three hours for a 2K game is plausible, and likely more than that (3:15 or 3:30 seems more like what a casual game should need.) As I don't think most players are willing/able to commit that much time in a single day to the event, I believe dropping down in points is the appropriate solution.
splinx
1500 is great, 1850 and everywhere in between the two is also good! I actually prefer smaller points as its easier to carry, and makes me think harder on what i actually wanna bring.
andozane
Last game of 40K I played was 1500 IIRC, and it was a very fun game.
Chappy
I prefer 2000. But 1850 is fine too.

Exactly this. 2k games need a long time to play 3-3.5 hours. Fine for two friends playing, but over the course of 5 or 6 games? That's exhausting.
pretre
What about 1650?
pretre
What about 1650? Totally not suggested because my 2k list drops to 1635 with two models being removed. :)
Frowbakk
I'd say 1500 allows some, but not all, of the toys but still leaves plenty of room for fun and fluffy. 1500 (the fact Ive been playing 1500 tournaments at PFC games has shown me that.) generalripphook
How about 10? Nice round number. 1500-1850
pretre
I will say that I am a bit annoyed with myself if we don't have 2k. I bought a whole new army just for OFCC at 2k. lol Oh well, extra models don't hurt.
AbusePuppy
1650 seems like a decent compromise, especially if we have 2.45 or 3hr rounds. That still lets people fit a lot of the fancier formations and whatnot into an army while significantly reigning in the number of models o the table. Gorgosaurusrex
I prefer larger games, so 1750, 1850, and 2000 all get my vote. 2000 is my favorite. More toys!
alexcragg
2000 please We don't need OFCC to change anymore than it has!
Aaron Bang
My preferrence would be to go even smaller and have more rounds. More rounds means more exposure to more players. So, I vote for 1500 or even 1000 points, but add a 6th round, with 2 hour rounds. A 1000 point matchup would work best in this matchup. There is an added benefit to this approach--it eliminates most of the hyper cheese lists (gladius, war con, etc) that cannot fill their requirements to get their command benefits. PourSpelur
I'm a big fan of 1850. Lots of the OFCC lists I've seen, have the more points-heavy things that rarely hit the table like Baneblades. 1850 allows those but still trims enough points so games can finish naturally. Aaron Bang
It hurts my heart to say it, especially since my ofcc army is already finished, but I agree with the lower point value
Brother Glacius
In all honesty, why not go with a gradual reduction. Maybe do 1750 this time around. I don't oppose 1500, because I really like the game size, but maybe for the sake of those used to going with 2K, don't cut the army by 25% right out of the gate.
